It's funny how Michael Caine went from this, where he recieves a scarf from Beaker and Professer Bunson, to saving crack whores and killing PlanB in Harry Brown.
You know... I can watch Steel Magnolias, Angelas Ashes, Bourne and not shed a single tear... then I watch the Muppet Christmas Carol... and here comes the water works lol
@TheExodude - sometimes all caps is an exclamation of joy, agreement, excitement or thankfulness! Try some of that yourself and have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
LOVE the Muppets and LOVE this song. Sadly though, this is the one Muppet movie I could never get into. The Statler and Waldorf Marley and Marley scene terrorized me as a kid and the talking and singing chains plus their rattling sounds and evil looks traumatized me to the point that I am still afraid of chains today. However, I will always love the Muppets and their continued effort to bring quality family and good hearted entertainment to everyone! Just saw the new movie and also loved it!
Fuck all like Christmas day all the shops are open no problem if this was real life he'd be cursing the fact he can't buy a pack of smokes cos all the shops are shut lol
@simontheasset ~ One; it's a muppet world where thing go they was they're supposed to. Two; we don't really know that shops wouldn't be open in Victorian London at Christmas time.
I've just realised! I watched this film for years and I've just noticed that at 1:43, the shop sign says Statler and Waldorf! And now the Micklewhite one. :)
I've been listening to these songs and you know what? On the videos I have been on, I haven't seen one dislike. This shows the brilliance of this film.
@greg802 Tradesmen and the like often didn't close for Christmas. The middle class were more likely to have a day off. Which is odd considering that earlier in the film, Cratchett said everyone would be closed.....XD
@KaizokuShojo everyone mortgage banks and the like would do business with. small storefronts that sell gifts and food would be open, because people would buy stuff last minute
I gotta say, my one niggle with this film is that Scrooge has gotta be really fast at wrapping presents to get all those ready in the space of an hour or so. And live next to a 24/365 store.
One of my fav movies though. Watch it every Christmas Eve.
sorry guys but i'm pretty sure there's no irony in the bookkeepers getting coal. they were getting coal cause scrooge would never buy any to keep the shop warm so the bookkeppers had to write with numb fingers. i really dont think there's any irony in that.
am i right in thinking that the shop they pass on the way to see sam and fozzie (i can't remember who they played in this) is called Statler and Waldorf (as in the old guys in the balcony who palyed the marley brothers)
I know Michael Caine has been in far more iconic roles than this, but this is the first film I think about when someone mentions Michael Caine. The perfect Scrooge. ♥
Every night will end, and every day will start, with a grateful prayer and a thankful heart from now on! And a glass raised to toast your health and a promise to share the wealth in these times we all need to help one another.
I love this movie but if I knew someone like Scrooge and he changed from a cranky, stingy, greedy, grumpy, and uncaring old man to a generous, smiling, happy, singing, chipper, and all around nice guy I would think he went crazy especially if I knew his reason for changing was brought on by a child in a white sheet floating and gliding off the floor, a chubby, chipper, and joly giant, and adark, gloomy skeletal figure. But hey if everyone else was going along with it why not?
@GazStudios Nerdy? Hmm...no I believe the term your looking for is educated. I meant no harm in my post and you can enjoy a song without reading comments. I was merely sharing my opinion of which is entitled to everyone. Thank you for sharing your opinion.:)
@Moontamble That's the case in pretty much every version of 'A Christmas Carol,' and yeah, they usually make a point of having at least a couple of the characters wondering if Scrooge was feeling okay.
was just about to say the same! Mind you he always used to make me happy but now he makes me think of my poor deceased bow-wo who looked just like him
While I have seen this movie several times when I was younger, I guess I never really watched it.
I never really noticed how subtly Scrooge's personality is changing between the ghosts's individual visits. Now the story really makes sense. This is a classic movie that can not be overshadowed by a CGI graphics-fest retelling.
This is how to make a classic movie; with skilled actors who can show even the slight changes a character goes through, clever music, and subtle humor.
I agree about Michael Cane being the best scrooge too. The only thing that would make this Muppet movie better would be if after it ends it replays itself right away!
That or it goes right into the Muppet family Christmas video
movies like this are the perfect christmasmovies, they should be more on tv but they aren't annymore send out on tv. it's like they are old fassion. i saw scrooge with only people and not with the muppets manny times but also sisi and westsidestory are perfect for this christmasfeeling
@sandwichhuman Now, that's not a very Christmasy sentiment, is it? More likely one person needs to be visited by three spirits to teach him or her the true meaning of Christmas or the holiday of his or her choice.
Something about the muppets Christmas songs always get to me And Is it just me or does scrooges nephews wife have a very beautiful smile :) merry Christmas
they should really show this movie every year. I don't think it's showing in Sydney, Australia this year.
It's a shame because this is probably the best Christmas Movie ever made.
This song is my favourite song in the whole movie and it always brings out the christmas spirit and gives that warm heartful feeling. First Verse is magnificent especially with the back up from the muppets and instruments.
