@eurostileness im glad someone said this. any kind of "tea cup" breed is made from mating a runt of a litter with another runt leading in a very weak unhealthy dog. due to this they tend not to live long. "tea cup" breeds are not recognised by kennel standards and are frowned upon :D

Yes, its true, anyone who has done any reading at all about chihuahuas would know there is no such thing as a teacup. There are long haired or short haired chihuahuas thats it. A small chihuahua, or runt if you prefer, is either one or the other.

Chi's are great pets! But then, I think every dog has potential to be a great pet. She's a little over 2 years old now and still weighs 6lbs. She loves to be held and follows me everywhere. She tends to get cold easily and loves to bark at the mailman. Of course, she still cries when other family members come home because she's excited. Very lovely pet although I treat her like she's my baby!

Chihuahuas get a bad rep because people don't train them just because they're small and don't feel threatened by them. If you train a chi, it will be an excellent pet and, unepectedly, a good gaurd dog. They bark when anything is amiss- I don't have a chi, but my friend does, and her dog stopped a break in by barking at the intruder.

If you console a dog every time it cries, you condition it to expect a reward (being held, petted,etc) for crying which will make the dog cry more. When she was a puppy, my chihuahua would walk into the kitchen and start crying for absolutely no reason. We left her alone and she learned to behave herself

Well in my opinion there is nothing wrong with leaving her to whine for under a minute. If she were to be picked up ever time as soon as she started crying, she would be spoilt and have owner under the thumb!
