I've had four tickets against me in four years (age 20) and I haven't killed anyone yet, including myself. I must be a statistical anomaly or just genuinely lucky to be alive...right? Well not exactly. Police conveniently set traps where they know the speed limit is completely inappropriate and where drivers most often exceed limits, not where the most accidents occur. We must understand that speeding on one road at any given time is not the same as speeding on another road at the same time.
All you need to do is slam on the breaks and steer toward blank space like the hard shoulder or a lay by. Always know where your blank space is. If there is none then okay, it can't be helped.
@MadPropsToTheHood you dont turn while slamming your breaks on, are you retarded? dear god someone has never driven before. please dont give this kid a license!
Things are interesting. Since the driver of the silver car looks like Micheal J. Fox, had he of stomped on the accelerator and hit 142 kph, he would of then missed the truck completely and instead, went back in time.
And if not for the careless lorry driver, there wouldn't be any danger at all. It's not speed that causes accidents, but carelessness, failing to yield, etc.
@Trebor6127 Your right, but can you guarantee that while your driving around, you won't come across someone doing something dumb, that causes you to have to brake hard or take evasive action? That's the real point of the video, shit can happen, don't find it while speeding.
@pathosbedlam I take that into consideration and ajdust speed to the the amount of traffic and the number of pedestians. On an empty road it can be safe to drive even 300 km/h, on a busy road even driving within the speed limit can be dangerous. One thing I know for sure - speed limits will never tell you what speed is safe in a given situation, you have to rely on your own judgement.
@pathosbedlam Besides, there can always be someone dumb on the road who will kill you no matter how slow you are going. Some thing you cannot avoid no matter what (accidents happens everywhere), but that doesn't mean we should never leave our homes, does it?
@BreakDown1996 under hard braking you could turn the wheel full lock and not go anywhere as all the weight of the car has shifted to the front of the car causing understeer
@harv1911: remember from school, braking distance= initial speed² / deceleration. It’s the square that makes a huge difference. Deceleration for dry asphalt is 8 m/s² (a bit lower than 1g), on sand 4 m/s² and on snow 1 to 4 m/s². Add the speed difference from the additional distance the faster car has traveled during reaction time.
So at 60 km/h pure breaking distance on dry asphalt is 34.7 m, at 65 km/h it’s already 40.8 meters, 6 meters longer—without taking reaction time into account.
@albedoshader: Pure breaking time for 60 km/h is 2.08 seconds, for 65 km/h the time is 2.26 seconds.
The formula for the time needed for the faster car to travel the breaking distance of the slower one is: 34.7m = 18.56 m/s x time - ½ x 8 m/s x time². Resolve for time and the result is: The faster car has traveled the complete braking distance of the slower car in 1.45 seconds, with 0.8 seconds of breaking time left. The remaining speed at that point is 6.45 m/s, which is 23.24 km/h. QED
@PARANOIDS0LDIER: German Gymnasium, just a public college preparatory high school/sixth form. But I have to admit my advanced courses were physics and biology and I’m studying mechanical engineering. But my calculation uses just basic high school level physics and mathematics.
@12rossja Using "momentum = mass x velocity squared" it's obvious that any slight change of speed affects your momentum greatly, you also travel further as you are going at a higher speed whilst thinking (as distance = velocity x time) so because of the 5km/h difference, 5 x 5 = 25, allowing the extra 2 to make 27 as you'll won't be stopping over the same distance as the slower car. The maths works out :)
@goldendisc I agree. Speed does contribute to the damage. I would think that it also depends on when you react and hit the brake. Had the driver of the white car before the driver of the darker car, he might have either reduced the damage to his car, or avoided the collision altogether.
@Seattlecarnut If both drivers anticipate the hazard at the same time, this outcome happens. I think this is a bad example as both drivers should have been able to see this hazard earlier. City planners know where these unforeseeable hazards are likely to occur and set speed limits appropriately.

@Capitanvolume Yes - and indeed motorways, where traffic is fastest, are statistically the safest roads. It doesn't make sense just to tell people to 'slow down'. Be more aware, yes. Adjust driving according to conditions, yes. But driving 'slowly' doesn't really mean anything by itself.
One fella from my childhood, few years younger than me (18 years old, just got an driving licence), crashed and killed my friends little brother after speeding at 130km/h in 80km/h area. The car was nearly cut in half after crashing into a tree. Anyone want to calculate the force of the impact? 130km/h and the car weights about 1300 kilos. And it was an instant stop straight into a tree. 1 thing is certain, the fuckface that killed my friends brother will never get a job because of a murder.
Lets outlaw cars and go back to horse and buggy. That would be much safer! I'm joking. It is a matter of where do we draw the line? Should we make the speed limit 70 and have a few more accidents or should we make it 55 again to save gas and lives? Or should we make it 40 to save even more lives but waste everyones time who drives? It's all a matter of opinion. Ask everyone and make the speed limit the average of what everyone says.
I am professional driver that has driven well over a million miles as a truck driver. This is very true. A few miles per hours in speed can have a big difference. This is specially true when you drive a big, and heavy vehicle. This one reason why we truckers usually go below the speed limit. That is because those speed limit are only safe for cars, but not for big trucks. Trucks cannot stop like a car, and even if it did, the cargo will still do damage since its heavier than the truck.
"A sudden change in the road ahead." There is nothing sudden about a semi trailer pulling out in front of you. If you aren't ready for that no amount of slowing down will save you.
What if it pulls out 10 or 20 metres closer to you?
@BunnysSwedishWinter Wow look at the small brain and smart mouth on you, my comments come from over 6 million kilometers of experience and they are not lies. You can believe what you want as you obviously do. Teenage boys aren't just driving fast, they are driving without experience and often impaired. They aren't driving 10 0r 20 over but 100 to 160 over the limit. And you have a lot of nerve to insinuate "when I have a wreck" like it is more likely than yourself if you drive at all.
So folks from now on lets all be going with about 10-15 km/h at most 20 so when things like that happen we do not need to brake down the mess will have already be cleaned up by the time we even get there.
@cunt3d If the speeding car had crashed directly into the truck the front end would have collapsed. There was a human inside dumbass. You're stupid; are you calling them liars?
I had a crash recently, broke a leg. I couldn't work for 7 weeks. Had to live off borrowing money just to pay the rent. I was starving because I couldnt afford food and cold because I know I would have been able to pay the power bill for heating.
I was doing 15 km/h.
I have friends who have crashed at 80 or even 100km/h and have walked away unharmed. Speed doesn't kill and there is no such thing as a safe Vehicle accident.
@577newname Sorry for your fucked up accident, but, you obviously have NEVER seen what high impact crashes can do. 100km/h ain't shit. Try looking at some accident images from wrecks that occurred at 100MILES per hour. How fast was the other car going? over 50mph, ever 5 and 10 mile increase, increases your chance of death. How are you going to live if the impact completely shreds the car? you can't. I was almost killed in a 45mph crash, if I had been going 65 I could be dead or crippled
Thumbs up if you wish you could walk so fast everything was in slow-mo like that whenever you wanted to! Not to mention sex, but yeah that would be fun!
Clear, open road, no obstructions, no traffic. How do you NOT see a big semi tractor trailer approaching an intersection up ahead? In fact, you can see it coming at 0:07. That's when I'd be slowing down already.
Timing also plays a role in whether you hit or or not, and how hard you hit. If you see the truck early and brake early, then you may have a chance to avoid hitting the trailer.
Thing is that the speeder usually reacts much faster more than making up for the difference in speed, plus any half decent driver would have swerved around the truck. This was perfectly staged to make the speeder hit at the very worst part of the truck. As usual, deceit to prove they point they want to make. In reality most non speeders are so often not paying attention they would likely not have hit the brakes at all before hitting the truck.
@JohnnySpeed THAT is the most stupid fucking shit comment I ever read. THE speeder reacts FASTER? how the fuck would you know the reaction speed of a human based on how fast they drive? TEENAGE BOYS speed like stupid shits, and cause over 50% of all fatal accidents, their reaction time is NIL. Of course this is staged, but there is NO DECEIT. You are a stupid piece of lying shit. Of course you won't die when you cause a wreck, but some poor kid will.
Where did you get your data? of all fatal accidents only 3% are caused by people traveling over the speed limit. What you are told is over 40% of them are due to 'speeding' but what 'speeding includes all cases of motorists traveling too fast for the conditions, not stopping or slowing for intersections. Traveling over the speed limit is only one small part of the numbers people like the Victorian Road Safety Taskforce try to convince you with.
oh well...Sometimes my corvette ZR-1 Modified kicks and slides out on the highway when i go 80 Mph and kicks to 100 Mph and i dont need to worry since the car is ABS Powered and Ceramic Brakes :D
My point was that its better to drive defensively and avoid a crash than to close your eyes and hope that, because you were travelling 5km/h slower up the road, you will stop in time if you slam on the brakes. Sorry if you didn't get that, I'm hard to understand sometimes.
Yes I was being a smartass but I do think my point is valid.
@577newname what if you cant swerve or you dont know how to drive defensively? the point of a speed LIMIT is to get you to not HAVE to be a defensive driver but be able to not have an accident on your own. point not valid. people need to learn that 5kms can make a very big difference its not about if you THINK you can handle your car or can stop in time its what will ACTUALLY happen so if people just abide the law this will not happen as much plus its a limit you dont HAVE to go that fast
Driving defensively includes spotting a huge fuckoff truck and slowing down so far in advance that you don't have to avoid the situation as you won't encounter it. Not just slam the brakes on and hope the speed limit saves you. It is about planning, forthought and observation and it is necessary at all speeds. If you don't recognise that now I hope for your sake that the day you do, you are capable of walking away from it.
@577newname yes but what if it runs a red light? or comes around a corner out of the blue? you pitch that idea to the RTA and see how many drivers A) will pay for that training and B) stick to that training and C) remember that training for a long time & that that training will kick in when needed. trust me i have seen enough accidents and dealt w/ the consequences that i know very well thats why i dont speed but then again i got free education on it at the time & i remember it from experience
Technically, if you are traveling slower you spend more time in the intersection so if someone is going to run the red light they are more likely to hit you, you should always be ready for someone to run the red light and be ready to avoid them. If someone comes around a blind corner out of the blue you are screwed regardless of what speed you are doing as they will hit you at whatever speed they are doing which, if they are so quick they catch you unawares, will be quite high.
@577newname unless they come out just before you we are talking about if you are going through say an intersection & its green they run it and are blocked in the intersection you need to stop or YOU will hit them. yes they could run it and hit you but thats not the argument. i meant out of the blue as in you still have time to react but it still shocks you. most people may need training but cant afford it or wont remember it or it wont kick in in the situation its meant for so your point is moot
You should slow down for traffic lights anyway, if they run it and you are doing the speed limit and are a bit closer you will still have a serious crash. If you still have time to react then its okay, you can maximise the time you have to react by slowing down for corners and by properly positioning yourself on the road to maximise you buffer zones you can ensure there is always a way out. There is no excuse for sloppy driving especially "I wasn't speeding, its was his fault!"
@577newname yes true but not everyone thinks like that they just think ok the speed limit is X so i will go X. ?? there definitely is an excuse of its their fault are you serious? have you ever been to a car crash? i have been to too many and i know very well that half the time it is someone elses fault and the other half is the other persons fault but most of that is from the driver trying to avoid an obstacle on the road or another car or an animal and accidently causes and accident
And a $80 course, with a skid pan session, saved my sisters life when some lowlife tried to overtake around a blind corner at the speed limit which maximised the time he spend in the oncoming lane. He forced her off the road into the gravel. This $80 course, which at the time (4 years prior) she said was a waste of time an money, when she left the road it all kicked in and she mananged to maneuver her car between fence posts and a lightpole on loose gravel and grass.
@577newname thats great that she survived i hope she got the license plate number and reported him anyway the point is not EVERYONE can afford it and not EVERYONE will remember it and im not saying most people should close their eyes and hope for the best but they should just stay the speed limit or less i think we are arguing the same thing but from 2 different points and its coming off as arguing haha
My point was that its better to drive defensively and avoid a crash than to close your eyes and hope that, because you were travelling 5km/h slower up the road, you will stop in time if you slam on the brakes. Sorry if you didn't get that, I'm hard to understand sometimes.
Yes I was being a smartass but I do think my point is valid.
exactly, its just propaganda and revenue raising bullshit.victoria speed camera tolerance is just 2 kmh.if you inflate your tyres just a tad, that could result in a fine
...and on loose or slippery surfaces ABS actually increases braking distance. Should we ban it? The harder you hit something the more it hurts, and?
The focus is 3 things: driver education (not with dad for 25 hours), vehicle safety (bi-annual checks) and road safety (take the money you take from us and put it where it bloody belongs instead of in general revenue!)
This is why Europeans do not repeat such absurd propoganda every 2 mins on their televisions and billboards.
@smart2cry Well that just begs the question of why they would be driving straight towards a solid concrete wall in the first place? That would be called stupidity and possibly Darwinism if either of them hit a blatantly obvious stationary object like a concrete wall.... Oh, and there's a steering wheel for a reason, I'm sure there are even retarded kids who could've avoided the truck without a problem.
Sometimes driving your car into the ditch/side of road is less damage then hitting the object in front. Interesting tho how 5km/h can make a big difference, I can believe it tho.
this didn't change my mind about speed, they made the car which was speeding on edge so the crash would look more dangerous, and there is something called steering if it where me I wouldn't just brake i'd avoid the crash (it happened to me couple of times)
@giovannimartinezm5 and by the time you flick the switch, the parachute openes and actually catches anough air to cause resistance, the truck's bumper is through your head.
@poptropicaperson I seriously doubt you will be able to stick to that statement. in fact, give at least 4 of those years and you will already know that is almost impossible.
This one is doing 55 Km/h but he is driving distracted. He hits the truck at 55km/h because the 2 seconds where you are meant to react he is distracted....
Now someone doing 80 km/h; an alert driver and does a head check and notices the truck ahead of time. He brakes well before any of these drivers.
This add assumes the same reaction times for all drivers, the one not speeding has a false sense of safety because he is brainwashed by these adds and hence isn't alert.
@adzii1 He was braking to avoid the poppycock that stopped in front of him, that pocppycock braking to avoid the bullpocky that stopped in front of him, and so forth, on and on, forever.
WTF ? In last 5 meters you wipe of half of the speed so the black car is doing 10 km/h and the silver car is doing 64 km/h ? Or how should I understand that ??
@a6km no the cars both slow down at the same rate but because the slower car stops faster his 5 meters is closer to the braking point and therefore he drops his speed sooner, so 5m from the truck he is going 30km and that last 5m drops him down to 5km, the faster car took farther to stop so 5m from the truck he is going 40-50km and drops down to 27km as he has less time to react, however the thing they didnt factor in is that if your in the middle of the desert you could see the truck. oh well.
@kennit1000 Yeah I blame stupid irresponsible parents too... for raising stupid irresponsible drivers who kill or could kill and figure its no big deal. Yes I do make a valid arguement. You're telling me that driving 50 in a school zone instead of 30 won't make a difference? You can stop a hell of a lot sooner going slower and might just save a life.. So yeah speed kill why not? How would you feel? You kill a kid, hit someone just because you figure Hell its alright to speed.
@Mugganz ruin countless lives, all because you don't want to follow the rules and believe its ok to make your own rules. Real smart and responsible. So who is stupid and irresponsible now?
@kennit1000 agreed.. but its not the scenario this id is trying to show.. its how big a difference its can be if you just going 5'ks over the limit. I agree that with a higher degree of concentration/skill everyone could go faster safely - but if you going just 5k's over it makes a huge difference in your response to some idiot texting in the other lane you just swerves in front of you. Not your fault - but maybe going a little bit slower could have prevented any crash.
the faster car should've been tested to crash the truck on the side, not at the bumper. otherwise then the damage would look worse as opposed to the side so then both can be compared better.
Must not have very good brakes!

@D3f11 what if you cant turn? lets say there is a tree/people/other cars/a ditch... preventing you from turning.
as for other counter measures...
ABS will help but if your going faster then it will take longer to stop. this is ALWAYS true.
the idea behind this vid is that a car slightly speeding will take longer to stop. not you should turn to pass other cars so you can keep speeding.

577newname 8 months ago
@BunnysSwedishWinter Wow look at the small brain and smart mouth on you, my comments come from over 6 million kilometers of experience and they are not lies. You can believe what you want as you obviously do. Teenage boys aren't just driving fast, they are driving without experience and often impaired. They aren't driving 10 0r 20 over but 100 to 160 over the limit. And you have a lot of nerve to insinuate "when I have a wreck" like it is more likely than yourself if you drive at all.
JohnnySpeed 8 months ago
So folks from now on lets all be going with about 10-15 km/h at most 20 so when things like that happen we do not need to brake down the mess will have already be cleaned up by the time we even get there.

577newname 8 months ago
@577newname Sorry for your fucked up accident, but, you obviously have NEVER seen what high impact crashes can do. 100km/h ain't shit. Try looking at some accident images from wrecks that occurred at 100MILES per hour. How fast was the other car going? over 50mph, ever 5 and 10 mile increase, increases your chance of death. How are you going to live if the impact completely shreds the car? you can't. I was almost killed in a 45mph crash, if I had been going 65 I could be dead or crippled
BunnysSwedishWinter 8 months ago
Thumbs up if you wish you could walk so fast everything was in slow-mo like that whenever you wanted to! Not to mention sex, but yeah that would be fun!
OMBwtf1 8 months ago
Clear, open road, no obstructions, no traffic. How do you NOT see a big semi tractor trailer approaching an intersection up ahead? In fact, you can see it coming at 0:07. That's when I'd be slowing down already.
JamesMorlan 8 months ago
Timing also plays a role in whether you hit or or not, and how hard you hit. If you see the truck early and brake early, then you may have a chance to avoid hitting the trailer.
Seattlecarnut 9 months ago
Thing is that the speeder usually reacts much faster more than making up for the difference in speed, plus any half decent driver would have swerved around the truck. This was perfectly staged to make the speeder hit at the very worst part of the truck. As usual, deceit to prove they point they want to make. In reality most non speeders are so often not paying attention they would likely not have hit the brakes at all before hitting the truck.
JohnnySpeed 9 months ago 2
@JohnnySpeed THAT is the most stupid fucking shit comment I ever read. THE speeder reacts FASTER? how the fuck would you know the reaction speed of a human based on how fast they drive? TEENAGE BOYS speed like stupid shits, and cause over 50% of all fatal accidents, their reaction time is NIL. Of course this is staged, but there is NO DECEIT. You are a stupid piece of lying shit. Of course you won't die when you cause a wreck, but some poor kid will.
BunnysSwedishWinter 8 months ago
@BunnysSwedishWinter

577newname 4 months ago
@577newname what if you cant swerve or you dont know how to drive defensively? the point of a speed LIMIT is to get you to not HAVE to be a defensive driver but be able to not have an accident on your own. point not valid. people need to learn that 5kms can make a very big difference its not about if you THINK you can handle your car or can stop in time its what will ACTUALLY happen so if people just abide the law this will not happen as much plus its a limit you dont HAVE to go that fast
nicamy8988 4 months ago
@nicamy8988
577newname 4 months ago
@577newname yes but what if it runs a red light? or comes around a corner out of the blue? you pitch that idea to the RTA and see how many drivers A) will pay for that training and B) stick to that training and C) remember that training for a long time & that that training will kick in when needed. trust me i have seen enough accidents and dealt w/ the consequences that i know very well thats why i dont speed but then again i got free education on it at the time & i remember it from experience
nicamy8988 4 months ago
@nicamy8988
577newname 4 months ago
@577newname unless they come out just before you we are talking about if you are going through say an intersection & its green they run it and are blocked in the intersection you need to stop or YOU will hit them. yes they could run it and hit you but thats not the argument. i meant out of the blue as in you still have time to react but it still shocks you. most people may need training but cant afford it or wont remember it or it wont kick in in the situation its meant for so your point is moot
nicamy8988 4 months ago
@nicamy8988
577newname 4 months ago
@577newname yes true but not everyone thinks like that they just think ok the speed limit is X so i will go X. ?? there definitely is an excuse of its their fault are you serious? have you ever been to a car crash? i have been to too many and i know very well that half the time it is someone elses fault and the other half is the other persons fault but most of that is from the driver trying to avoid an obstacle on the road or another car or an animal and accidently causes and accident
nicamy8988 4 months ago

And a $80 course, with a skid pan session, saved my sisters life when some lowlife tried to overtake around a blind corner at the speed limit which maximised the time he spend in the oncoming lane. He forced her off the road into the gravel. This $80 course, which at the time (4 years prior) she said was a waste of time an money, when she left the road it all kicked in and she mananged to maneuver her car between fence posts and a lightpole on loose gravel and grass.
577newname 4 months ago
@577newname thats great that she survived i hope she got the license plate number and reported him anyway the point is not EVERYONE can afford it and not EVERYONE will remember it and im not saying most people should close their eyes and hope for the best but they should just stay the speed limit or less i think we are arguing the same thing but from 2 different points and its coming off as arguing haha

...and on loose or slippery surfaces ABS actually increases braking distance.

Now lets add a THIRD driver
This one is doing 55 Km/h but he is driving distracted. He hits the truck at 55km/h because the 2 seconds where you are meant to react he is distracted....
Now someone doing 80 km/h; an alert driver and does a head check and notices the truck ahead of time. He brakes well before any of these drivers.
This add assumes the same reaction times for all drivers, the one not speeding has a false sense of safety because he is brainwashed by these adds and hence isn't alert.

WTF ? In last 5 meters you wipe of half of the speed so the black car is doing 10 km/h and the silver car is doing 64 km/h ? Or how should I understand that ??
a6km 1 year ago
@a6km no the cars both slow down at the same rate but because the slower car stops faster his 5 meters is closer to the braking point and therefore he drops his speed sooner, so 5m from the truck he is going 30km and that last 5m drops him down to 5km, the faster car took farther to stop so 5m from the truck he is going 40-50km and drops down to 27km as he has less time to react, however the thing they didnt factor in is that if your in the middle of the desert you could see the truck. oh well.

You're telling me that driving 50 in a school zone instead of 30 won't make a difference? You can stop a hell of a lot sooner going slower and might just save a life.. So yeah speed kill why not? How would you feel? You kill a kid, hit someone just because you figure Hell its alright to speed.
