Great post, thank you. When I saw this live it gave me chills when Jerry started plucking those opening notes. It used to give me chills, did on you tube also. God bless ya Jerry!!
Essence of the Grateful Dead. Wanno know this band? 1965-19950? This is it. This is the Dead we knew and danced to. Was there ever a better Rock and Roll band? Fuckin doubtful.
Mickey added so much, just being Mickey and if you ever stood behind and watched some of the subtle things. There are so many levels. Billy is amazing, but he was not happy at times, down right ornery. without mickey, billy wouldn't have brought it every night. His knowledge is another thing. I only have so much room here, but one of my friends was his research assistant... The grateful dead, in any form, was a sum of it's parts. There were also many nights Mickey would pull jerry out of a funk
@alikatpro as a drummer who spent many shows tuned into the percussion section, I always considered Bill to be the driving force. Attitude aside, Bill is man behind the Grateful Deads groove. Mickey may have added a lot, but Bill drove the band. And I think he's the most underrated drummer in rock.
The Dead were one of the few groups that had two drummers which gave a wall of sound. Drums which was an essential part of any shows where awesome and could never have been done by one person. Visually it was always exciting watching Bill and Mikey roll the thunder
why do you say micky is in an another world on all your posts? do u know micky? i actually do, have his drum key. mickey is sooo cool-dont post on him if you don't know him. this is a more of a a brent and jerry tune anyway, lay off on mick...

Agreed, Billy is amazing, His new project 7 walkers is awesome, with George and papa Mali et al.
And most off, he is happier than ever, just took a vacation and Justin just had a baby. I have never seen grand papa Billy so happy.
I have read some horrible things about Mickey on these post, that just are not true. Mickey is energy, good energy... keep drumming !

I stand corrected - My first show was in 77 so I never experience the Dead with one drummer
