Different singers have different strengths. Jaroussky is effortless with the high notes (tessitura). For my taste, this gives a very relaxed, pleasant feeling to this aria.

Why not just express how much he likes this video without insulting the other artists. Mind that it wasn't me who used "fuck" on your video and "Fat woman voice". @serenaluce I accept you don't like Jaroussky you have the right not to like him. At his beginnings I've appreciate him but now I think he is too much implied in the marketting and it harms to the quality of the music. I don't think this interpretation is the best I've never heard but it's interesting to have one more version on youtube because everybody have different tastes.

I don't mind heated discussions but people should specify what they find wrong in my reasoning and support their own point of view. Exchanging opinions is a good thing. As we say in Russia : "In arguments the truth is born". Well, for different people truth is different:-). But I don't accept just insults like:"You are a very stupid person". As for maegester we first argued and then became friends:)
@serenaluce I think that some corse answer don't deserve any answer, even strong. If I see that a comment is stupid, that's obvious for me that if I answer something equivalent, I'll be stupid myself, so I just try to answer in a polite way and if this person continues to be unpleasant, I just give up because this kind of people just wants to provoke and doesn't deserve any attention.
But i'll be glad to share and discuss opinions if the argumentation is interesting and respectful. :)
@lisou40 In general I agree with you too. But sometimes arrogant people with stupid comments deserve to be put in their place. It teaches them a lesson and they don't write the same nonsense on other videos anymore. Sometimes polite way doesn't help, but "shock therapy" makes some people think and does more good than bad. Very often such people just don't know what to reply as they don't have musical arguments and discussion stops anyway. Also it makes the other people think if they read it...

I replied by inspired by my knowledges in music (I think I have a little because I'm myself a professional pianist now so I have a lot of studies behind me...and still a lot to learn ! :) ). The person in question didn't know what to add and just said something insulting. I didn't answer because it was stupid...and others viewers voted "bad" for the comment and now it has disappeared

I can't agree with you at all. What do it mean that this version is modern and hit home, adequate?! What is too heavy? How do you know how it was sung 200 years ago if nobody now living has ever heard it?! What is true baroque canon? You can only speculate about it but can't prove anything! I don't think that Cencic's version is too heavy if he moves the heart! His Placido in letto ombroso is stunning! But Spanos's version is not heavy at all! It's delicate, expressive with the best coloratura!
So, Spanos's Sol da te is much lighter than Cencic's, but it's full of emotions, soul! Not visceral like Cencic's. Why is it not true baroque to you? PJ's version is light, smooth and effortless, but it's EMPTY! There is NO soul here. The perception of the audience really changes, but you persist that the modern people are so primitive that they can accept only primitive interpretations? They are just consumers of lovely sounds and don't care about depth in singing? What about MOVING THE HEART?
Well I tend to figure now your «breathing technique» stuff and the phrasing is very insteresting as much as the tone. But I still prefer Jaroussky version because his voice is a bit warmer, close to a mez.sop. while Cencic's voice sound closer to a real soprano. This is a matter of taste so...anyway regards
On the contrary - Jaroussky sings closer to soprano and Cencic to mezzosoprano. Jaroussky's interpretation is so superficial and shallow with the same expression he sings everything. His coloratura is not interesting at all. Spanos sings closer to soprano too but HIS voice is MUCH warmer , enchantingly beautiful, very expressive and dramatic with a splendid light coloratura! Cencic's interpretation is very expressive too with beautiful embelishment and low notes! And both have masculine voices.

there are many way to express your thoughts. You have also to respect the opinions of the others. If people attack your opinion (and they have totally the right to do that), even if they are a bit scornful against you, answering by insults is not a good way.

Can't you hear:"Sol da te, mia dolci amori, questo cori avra' paci..." I just laugh! An International star of such a level should first take some Italian lessons! @serenaluce No I'm not a singer, but wish i was at times, I too love opera....Fischer Dieskau, Marylin Horne, many others to date.....You are very passionate regarding counter tenors, that is a certainty! Lucky you to know many great artists. I understand when you say an artist doesn't quite get there, that too annoys me intensely. I hate it when an artist murders a beautiful aria or so. Your passion has captured me all day, and I must say I felt compelled to reply to you regardless! :-)

I don't dare to say whose version is better. I think all versions have their own charm; besides, there is A LOT of work behind all interpretations. It is a matter of tastes,to chose one's favorite.
But i'm very glad to hear this version because i think PJ has improved SO MUCH his low notes, they're beautiful! i hope not to be wrong.

It would be better if you answered me in English. I speak Italian but my Spanish is not great at all. So you think that the closest to real barocco, the worst for the audience nowadays?! That now we became so primitive and superficial ourselves that we can except only such kind of empty, superficial interpretation with ridicuous coloratura like PJ's?! He doesn't share his soul, doesn't communicate his feelings. But not everybody is like that! I prefer TRUE ART! -Versions which MOVE THE HEART!

Questo me sembra una versione moderna e azzeccata; le versioni che suggerite me sembra molto pesante, è dubbiose che sono attaccata al canon baroque di 200 anni fa, ed anche se lo hanno fatto, la percezione dei pubblico cambia, e con loro esso deve cambiare il tono delle interpretazioni. Le versioni di Cencic, per esempio, persino sembrano a me molto pesante. Confrontare il aria ''Placido in letto ombroso''.

I can't agree with you at all. What do it mean that this version is modern and hit home, adequate?! What is too heavy? How do you know how it was sung 200 years ago if nobody now living has ever heard it?! What is true baroque canon? You can only speculate about it but can't prove anything! I don't think that Cencic's version is too heavy if he moves the heart! His Placido in letto ombroso is stunning! But Spanos's version is not heavy at all! It's delicate, expressive with the best coloratura!

So, Spanos's Sol da te is much lighter than Cencic's, but it's full of emotions, soul! Not visceral like Cencic's. Why is it not true baroque to you? PJ's version is light, smooth and effortless, but it's EMPTY! There is NO soul here. The perception of the audience really changes, but you persist that the modern people are so primitive that they can accept only primitive interpretations? They are just consumers of lovely sounds and don't care about depth in singing? What about MOVING THE HEART?

Well I tend to figure now your «breathing technique» stuff and the phrasing is very insteresting as much as the tone. But I still prefer Jaroussky version because his voice is a bit warmer, close to a mez.sop. while Cencic's voice sound closer to a real soprano. This is a matter of taste so...anyway regards

On the contrary - Jaroussky sings closer to soprano and Cencic to mezzosoprano. Jaroussky's interpretation is so superficial and shallow with the same expression he sings everything. His coloratura is not interesting at all. Spanos sings closer to soprano too but HIS voice is MUCH warmer , enchantingly beautiful, very expressive and dramatic with a splendid light coloratura! Cencic's interpretation is very expressive too with beautiful embelishment and low notes! And both have masculine voices.

Ésta me parece una versión moderna y acertada; las versiones que sugieres me parecen muy abigarradas y es dudoso que se apeguen al canon barroco de hace 200 años, y aunque lo hicieran, la percepción del público cambia, y con ellas debe cambiar el tono de las interpretaciones.

Luckily he isn't a castrato and is thus not expected to use their technique. Diaphragm is expected in any musician that uses breath to produce sound but I have no idea what you're on about with eggs.

Leggo spesso commenti strabilianti a proposito di questo controtenore. Io sono solo un'appassionata barocca ma,non trovo in Philippe Yarousky tutta questa iperbole,ma ovviamente lo dico solo da appassionata,probabilmente un musicista la intravede.
