@jrow84 No yaw damper can help u on such extreme oscillations. It is a hands on condition where the pilot is the better judge of what to do! not the computers or the plane.. Seen how many Airbuses they flew into ground before the pilots understood not to trust the computer blindly?
@KillWithFire12 That is what pilots are supposed to do when in extreme situations and those fellas did it extremely well. Wish we have more pilots like em flying our crates!
For those who are making silly comments, imagine being in the cockpit with your hand on the yoke before you joke! U will be prolly #@#$#ing in ur pants instead of thinking clearly.
That aircraft definitely lost bank authority during take off transition. Maybe the ailerons.. and increasing oscillation and the final dutch roll pattern def points to a control surface failure.. That meant the pilot would have to counter it with asymmetric engine thrust and rudder mostly. That means engine power has to be reduced sufficiently to bring it under control yet balanced against the roll/yaw forces. And doing so without loosing ground orientation and altitude.
Dutch roll. Let the yaw damper handle it. Try to correct it yourself and don't know what you're doing......they clean you off the runway with a spatula.
trust me guys this is a textbook dutch roll, but you need to have a fair bit of knowlage about how aircraft fly to understand one, and no matter what the cause this ISSSSSS a dutch roll. it can be caused by the over use of the rudder but if the rudder was reversed then it most likly would have crashed because if the aircraft sharply yaws to the left its in a pilots instinked to apply opposite rudder and not even consider the left peddel.
@Altjap1 this is also explained. Its called pilot induced ocilation and it occurse when the pilot keeps ofer correcting this can make it seem like the contols are reversed, just like AA a300 that crashed because the pilot was violently useing the rudder to correct for yawing which he thought was turbulance but was actually caused by him over useing the rudder, heavy aircraft take time to rospond so when he tried to yaw in each direction the aircraft was only just starting to move in the opposite
It were some military pilots that would transport this old plane to another city and something went wrong. Whatever they did - plane did opposite things. It took time to get used to it, but they did it. Try it at home if you play aviasimulators - change your buttons to opposite: left to right, up and down and try then to land.
It's only their iron-nerves and teamwork that helped this miracle to happen
@Altjap1 What.Your an idiot. How the hell can mechanical linkages reverse themselves!!, that is impossible and NOT what happend. As anyonene with a intemediate understanding of how planes fly would know, this aircraft was in an aerodynamic mode know as a dutch roll (google it, but its basicly a self repeating out of sync rolling and yawing motion), to recover effectivly you need full control of the rudder, and i'm guessing that they did not have this. BUT THE CONTROLS DID NOT REVERSE.
@Jamenator1 linkages can be reversely connected by mistake and crashes have happened because of that. i won't call you an idiot, although you deserve.
@TheBajhuj well i'm sorry i called you an idiot, i guess it was uncalled for. But if the controles were reversed then when the pilot tried to rotate the aircraft it would not get off the ground in the first place. this aircraft IS in a dutch roll and generaly when the controls seem to revers you would not figure it out until its too late, like the 737 rudder failures (the pilots in all cases didn't figure out the rudder was reversed at all and the aircraft spiralled down and crashed.
i agree with jordanlease1, if anything it looks like its maybe being put through its paces on a test flight, i have a friend who fly's some of these flights. and he has told me of how some flights he has hated as they have had to turn off just about all the safety instruments to see how the planes would perform should they go wrong during a commercial flight :D
If you are into aircraft then you'll love my "Aircraft Guide" to light civil aircraft APP for Iphones and smartphones. Ful colour photos, performance information, specs -- even unit costs. Check out Itunes or Android.
Total rubbish, it's a footage of a model aircraft cut into an actual plane moving down the runway. You people must think we are idiots not to realise this. Either do something better or fuck off and die.
That is a U.S. plane. It said '' Air Force One'' on the side of it! That must have been when obama went into a rage coz his watermellon slopped all over him. BTW, you think they'll ever be able to get that smell out of the presidential plane or the Whitehouse?
Very skilled, this type of control issue is more prominent in modern "efficient" swept wing aircraft. That pilot does not know how to panic, or he would be dead.
Have a look at the service record of the Tu-154. Boeing would love to be able to claim the same for their aircraft. It was/is a great aircraft with a better performance & safety record than the equivalent Boeing.
@BacchusFA Actually, this was NOT a test run. This aircraft was flown by the famous Russian pilot, Ivan Yakin'hoff. In this clip, he is seen flying while.............
@camlinhall Yeah, incorrect load. that's for sure!! In this clip, the pilot was flying Rosanne Bar, Rosie O'Donald, and "Mimi" from "The Drew Carey Show" to San Francisco so they could scarf lunch together at the Chinese buffet!!
@DinhoPilot No those planes are just old but not designed bad. And no you are not funny by spreading false information about them being banned in Africa, no they are not banned from there as TU-154M is not banned even in Europe. Also saying that whole Africa has low safety standards is nonsense, South Africa for example has high safety standards. Also Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines are both pretty safe ones.
@Pvjinflight O.k my bad.It is not Tupolevs that are banned but certain Antonov models because of their bad safety record. Africa in general as a lower safety standard (as statistics show) but certain countries have a good record. Many of the airlines banned in Europa are Africa (there is quite a few Asian and Eastern Europpean). I have no bias, but some russian airplanes are just unsafe (not kept airworthy to US/EU standards)
@AIRdomination yes, wow im amazed there are so few people who know what this is, everone either says its fake or vodka had somthing to do with it. all idiots who don't know shit about aviation.
This is part of an air show demonstration. It's a controlled maneuver using a combination of rudder and ailerons, as well as air speed. Cute attempt on the poster's part to make it seem like a "problem" in the sky.
Looks like he is coming in high and want too descend rapidly. Lowering left wing and jawing right, (and then shift vice versa(Not needed, atleast in a small aircraft), would effectively lower you airspeed and increase your rate off descend.
This technique is common when making assessment landings with smaller air crafts. So I see no reason why people think this video is a fake.

@tomibewi No thats bullshit. It came out only few months before Concorde, so in that short time Concorde could have never been designed from TU-144. Also after all TU-144 was rushed to get it out before Concorde and was technically piece of shit that had so many technical failures that it was permanently grounded after only 102 commercial flights, 55 of them pax ones. In that short time they managed to crash at least 2 of them.. Also its fuselage had problem with developing cracks.
Last time that happened it did not end so well, remember Souix City? The landing did not go well.

I wouldn't be suprised the people that watch russiatoday, think parachutes is a good idea. They must have never flown to know it isn't a good idea.
