UTG makes a good alternative/copy to that Maxpedition murse for $25 or so. Has the pistol compartment, but does not come with the holster included.

Have you ever tried a belly band? I just picked up Galco's version for when I'm running and it works awesome. Keeps my Bond Arms snugged tight to my side and allows me to carry a quick strip of six ooo buck rounds. All this disappears under a t shirt. A fanny pack doesn't work well while running because it flops too much. Also,  I imagine it would work well for your casual Fridays attire.

Regarding Friday afternoon casual business dress-even if it was very hot and humid-like the East Coast-or Tokyo where I lived-I'd wear a summer weight sport jacket w/no tie and a belt holster or IWB. Because here in the NW really hot weather(upper 90s+) is not an issue save for maybe a week out of every year which to me doesn't justify buying a shoulder bag. And on those days I'd still wear a sport jacket.
