  • You should not use plastic items in your cage because if they chew it and some goes down in the stomach they could die or it just be very unhealthy. Just think logic - Plastic is made by oil.

  • you put my gerbils play with new toys to make more sens put my gerbils are playing with new toys

  • The gerbils will chew through plastic and this can make them very ill. If your gerbil is seen chewing it's plastic toys/tubes, remove it immediently and buy them a woodblock instead.

  • I can do this stuff in real life! lol! Thumbs up.

  • cool cage and your gerbils are active.

  • Nice cage:)

  • where can you get toys like these from for relatively cheap please!

  • Do they actually play with the little balls? :D

  • wow these guys r getting BIG irl lag~

  • do gerbils need aquarium tanks or can i get a regular cage

  • @mars8254 They should have aquariums for various reasons. Not a cage. Do some research to find out the reasons to get an aquarium instead.

  • @mars8254 gerbils can have regular cages, just make sure they are the half inch spaced bars and it has to be ALL metal. no plastic, as they will chew their way out. but youll have shavings kicked all over the house and it wont be able to have deep enough bedding for them to play in. Aquariums they cant chew their way out and you can give them a good 2-3+ inches to burrow in and make tunnels. they pretty much will spend their time running on a wheel or digging and playing.

  • this looks fun

  • u got some lucky gerbils there!

  • what're their names?

  • @SketchNick Stormy and Cloudy :P original i know lol

  • @Willow771 Not as bad as Whiskers and Fuzzy or something lol... mine are named Aravis and Scheherezade. from narnia and 1001 nights :D

  • i think they are more like "wtf is this shit in my cage?"

  • i am trying to make a slide-show with my gerbils. it was called Gerbil Wars.

  • um do they like the sound balls

  • hey just to tell you they probaly would like a wheel to play on

  • @foxmx98 ive always had a wheel for my gerbils. i just put it in at intervals :)

  • nice albino !

  • i miss my gerblis

  • @WebkinzDazzle126 Don't look at gerbil videos. It's like a parent looking at baby videos because their baby's gone.

  • In response to people talking about wheels, from what I've heard it's pretty much imperative that you have one because it allows them to exercise as much as they need (which for my girls is ALL night lol) You can put electrical tape on any wheel with holes to make it safe - and in regard to hyperflexing their spines, that's more of a concern in exercise balls. You should make sure that any wheel you get is large enough that they can run comfortably without back problems

  • i got a gerbil on christmas now i have three i have spent aboput 100$ on my gerbils

  • nice cage

  • I´m rather confused about this, should gerbils have exercis wheels or not?? some say that they can train the wrong muscles and stuff if they do :S (and I know that those metal ones with "holes" are not good) but if you get a big wheel I think it should be ok..but I don´t know ;/

    oh and cute gerbils^^ <3

  • NAAAAAJZ !!! I love it !

  • They so cuttte. :) I'm getting a female gerbil (Just 'cause the male ones always sleep and look lazy xP) from my Science teacher in a couple months or so, do you have any kind of tips? Like, do you think she'd be lonely or be okay without another gerbil around?

  • @lovepuppy513 adult gerbils are very territorial and often females moreso than males. you may think a friend would be good but often it only causes stress and poor health. if they already have a cagemate they are fine but new gerbils added to an adult community can be trouble. youd feel horrible if a new gerb got killed.

  • @Willow771 Oh okay. I wouldn't think she would get stressed if there were another around, because in that cage there is about five or six and they're all females (Just to keep from them reproducing) They we're all just taking turns running on the wheel, lol.

  • @lovepuppy513 i would see if you can take 2 instead of just one if she has several :) its the introduction of a NEW gerbil that can be stressful. (ie. attacks, bullying, asserting dominance)

  • @Willow771 Well the thing is, (I should've mentioned this before) that my mom will only let me get one. And I didn't want to nag my mom about getting just one. If I spent enough time with her, gave her enough toys, etc. do you think she'd be okay, anyway?

  • @lovepuppy513 yup :) she would probably be fine with a wheel and toys.

  • @Willow771 Well that's good. But I actually posted a thing on "Yahoo! Answers" about it, and I got several comments about if she would be okay or not by herself. So, I told my mom about all the things that could happen to her if she was by herself, and she said I can get two. I'm going to ask my teacher about some stuff. But yeah , it's just even better. And my mom also said she contacted a lady who had gerbil cages. It was an aquarium one like yours in the video.Do you think this would be good?

  • @lovepuppy513 should be fine :) good luck!

  • @Willow771 Thank you so much! :)

  • @Willow771

Actually I would not recommend a wheel for gerbils, since the end part of their tail can break off (defense mechanism in the wild) when tugged on.

It's not deadly, but I assume you want a gerbil with a pretty little tuft on their tail, and they don't grow back. ;)

  • @Nemurin depends on the type of wheel. there are wheels that are safe for long tailed rodents. the same concern goes for rats. in canada i know you can find wheels that have no holes and are more like a solid bowl with the mount on the outside away from where the rodents run. most pet stores have tail safe options nowadays

  • @Willow771

Rats and mice, all rodents with tails indeed.

But you are right, I forgot about those special wheels! :) Excellent.

Don't they hurt your pet's backs though from being bent all that way? They're used to sitting hunched, so...

  • @Nemurin i dont think its bad for their back. they only ride it for a little while. if it bothered them, they probably come off

  • D'aw! They're so cute.

  • man all these other cages people have make mine look like my gerbil needs WAAAAAAAAY more in her cage but i have a small cage!!

  • i have 1 gerbil and she seems kinda lonely i should've gotten her her sister. can i get her another gerbil to play with or will they fight???

  • I got to 2 Gerbils like yesterday(:

I love themm there so cutee

  • Those are like cat toys, are they safe?

  • I Love gerbiles

  • I once had a gerbil... Then richard geere took it.

  • @SuperGiarc

Long life = Aspen bedding. it may look expensive but considering it akes alot longer to spoil with gerbals (they dont pee much) its actually cheaper in the long run than pine bedding for other rodents. They also need lots of stuff to chew on...paper towel rolls, wood or plastic. keeps their teeth short. and a good variety of seed mix for their food with extra munchies. Try and keep it low in fats. (aka not an excessive amount of sunflower seeds) as gerbs are prone to obesity :)

  • @Willow771 My gerbils (R.I.P.) peed like I don't know what... by the time a week was up, some of the bedding was soggy.

  • @Willow771 u might not respond but im getting a gerbil and my sister whats safer 2 femals 2 males or a female and a male?? or does it matter??

and can i use shredded paper ?? i have boxes and boxes full and would it be ok to make my own cage??

  • @MegaMisterfx either can get along fairly well as long as they are from the same litter and same sex, otherwise they can fight and one can kill the other. sometimes you can get lucky but its usually unlikely. shredded paper works great as nesting or digging material but it wont absorb the smell like propper bedding and you would have to change it frequently. as for the plastic cage/tub....they have very sharp teeth and would chew right through it. metal bars or an aquarium would be best

  • @Willow771 k thx alot git somemore tips for when i buy my gerbil??

  • i have a 20 gallon tank for 4 gerbils and a mesh top,is that ghood?

  • @girlofdoom79 should be ok. keep an eye on how often you have to clean it with that many. they can suffer from respiratory distress if there is too much ammonia (pee) in the tank. id just stay on the lookout for something bigger so eventually they can have something big enough to burrow in comfortably

  • @girlofdoom79 if u dont wanna spend the money one a tanks just get a huge container at walmart for $5 i have one with 3 gerbils and they LOVE it!! go on izzyrocks12 channel and watch how to care 4 ur gerbil! thts wat got me to get the cage! hope i helped!(:

  • @girlofdoom79 That's perfect dear. The general rule is about 5 gallons per gerbil.

Just make sure they have plenty of bedding to dig in. :)

  • i really want 2 gerbils, and is that a 10 gallon tank with 2 gerbils in it!! cuz i have a 10 gallon tank and a 20 gallon tank but my rat is living in the 20 gallon tank!! do you think a 10 galon tank for 2 gerbils is good to just start out with for them!! or do you think it would be too small

  • @petzhorseclub

I would recommend the 20 for gerbils. that one is a 15...a mite too small. they dont produce much urine which is why they are fine in a tank. rats on the other hand need to be in a cage with bars because they can die from the lack of air circulation in a tank, even if you have wire mesh on top. so why not get your hands on an older bird cage if you cant afford a new cage, and alter it for your rattlies :)

  • @Willow771 uhhhh can u use a clear deap plastic container as a cage cuz i would put alot of bedding in it

  • @petzhorseclub if u dont want to spend the money one getting a 20 gallon tank gerbils do just as well in a container that about $5!! go to this girls channel izzyrocks12 and watch how to care 4 ur gerbils!! hope that helped!!

  • Awe sorry about your gerbils, that must have been said to wake up and find them T~T..totally killed the funny comment I was going to make.

  • I L I LO I LOV I LOVE I LOVE G I LOVE GE I LOVE GER I LOVE GERB I LOVE GERBI I LOVE GERBIL I LOVE GERBILS I LOVE GERBILS! Copy and paste if you agree
  • Nice play pen. You should replace the pine shavings with Aspen shavings because it's not good for them.

  • this video is over 3 years old :) my sweet gerbs passed away about 6 mos ago. totally getting more tho :D

  • My gerbils used pine shavings, except they were mixed with spruce and they were fine.

  • omg LOVE ur tank!!!! =D

  • where'd you get your tank from ??

  • i like the way there cage is set up with toyz!

  • Really nice playpen. I'm surprised the plastic toys are still intact. My gerbils chewed up their nice plastic (and supposedly unbreakable) igloo within 2 days. They chew up anything plastic.

  • my 2 gerbils always destroy there plastic running wheel completly in 2 or 3 months ; )

they destroy it but they don't eat it and when they are knibbleing they can not swallow.. also the gerbils are smart enough to know what to eat and what not to eat

    greets

  • why is plastic bad for them?they dont eat it they just need to ware down their teeth

  • Yep, that's true.

  • Nice cage! P.S. try keeping only wooden toys because plastic can be not good news for gerbils.

  • plastic can be deadly for gerbils! please - only wood

  • there spoiled xD

  • dont they chew on the plastic or are those special toys?

  • at 0:13, windows live messenger sound! lol

  • thats such a nice gerbil play area good job

  • Aww :D

I've given mine my old hamster cage and then an old fish tank for them to burrow and shiz..they love it :)

  • look at my videos, it tells how to care for one :) cardboard and TP tubes are the bestest :D

  • gerbils will chew on anything from there cage to your inacent soul

  • omg so cute. thnx for making this vid i had no idea wat other toys to get my gerbils lol the ball with the bell is so kool im gonna get one for my sweeties

  • *sigh* I live in Puerto Rico, so far i've never ever seen a gerbil in the petshops over here.. I wanted (and still want) a gerbil so bad! plus the lady at a petstore said that they were really bad pets because they chewed on everything including their home. is that true? should i keep looking?

  • they do chew everything they can get their hands on, but they can't damage thick porcelain, glass or metal. so if you put them in an aquarium, there is no problem. they are wonderful pets, they love playing with you and they are easy to take care of.

  • just like gerbilvlog said, gerbils are easy to take care of.

But if you wont them, try to buy more then one.

    they are social animals.

and the man in the store is talking rubbish.

he just want you to buy any other animal he got.

Whe got one hamster, and three gerbils, not in the same cage;-)

and i like the gerbils more then the hamster ;-p

    they are a bit smarter.

    Good luck finding gerbils!! :-)

  • ur spoiling them LOL

  • gerbils need lots of wooden thigns to chew on and cardboard.. not so much plastic toys. They need a few tunnels and little hidey holes and stuff. Google gerbil care x

  • wow they have lots of fun stuff for a gerbill

  • @Arrasay7 WOW!!!!

  • I got 2 gerbils last night YAY :)

  • Cute! And rats are NOT better. I had them...trust me... *shudders*

  • omg your white one looks jst like my one which literally died an hour ago. * sob *

  • getting gerbils very sonn CAN't WAIT!!!!!!!!!

  • Cute but.. rats are better =]

  • im getting a Gerbil!!! yay! go me!!! LoL =P

  • CUTE! Watch mine! :D

  • haha you're on MSN messenger. I heard the "ping" :P

  • i´ve got one gerbils ( the others are death) and he lives one year singel and he plays like a littel childe ^^

  • "the others are death", lol

  • aw so cute, too bad my mom looks at them as mice.

  • My Mom Hates Mine...I Have 1 Of Them In My Room...My Favorite..And The Other Two Are Down Stairs.

  • my gerbils had a brick and cerial boxes. they lived five years

  • wow u kinda spoiled them

    oh well,

nice vid can people give me gerbil advice

  • i r gonna buy a Gerbil is the CritterTrail 2 cage any good

  • no crittertrail 2 cage isnt good get habitrail ovo suite cuz even though it might be more expensive its a poop outpost carrying case den and home all in one. the travel case is on the top and can be connected with the tubes and if you want to bring your gerbil along you detach the case

  • i am planningto have 2 Gerbils wouldn't it be small

and i r planning to buy the CritterTrail 2 the CritterTrail expansion pack (Tubes) and the CritterTrail 1 mini as a addon home and carry thingy and it will all only cost about 60 bucks. and plenty of space

    pleaz` tell if good choice

  • yeah itll be good then it would have extra space

  • thakx alot man

i had sum dobts but now

    it r ok

  • None of those plastic tube houses are good at all. Get a 10 or 15-gallon aquarium for 2 gerbils. Gerbils will chew out of anything that is plastic. Also, use carefresh, aspen, or corncob bedding - do NOT use pine or cedar because it will make the gerbils sick. I know - I have had a lot of experience with gerbils.

  • Yeah I U"Se Aspen And Some Of That Colored "Fuzz" Stuff As Bedding. I Have A plastic Tube House For My Gerbils Playtime And After That I Put Him Back In His "gerbil-quarium" awqs i call it

  • thanks for the info.

    Why will it make'em sick?

  • It sounded like they said RON PAUL on the tv in the background @ 0:18!

    Write in RON PAUL!

    Paper Ballot, Public Count!

  • gerbils lose their tails sometimrs

  • wow those gerbils r spoiled (:

  • oh cool i love hamsters

  • omg those are some spoiled gerbils!

  • cute

  • my poor little gerbil Lucky(buramese) lost the tip of his tail, but he's fine now! GERBILS RULE! I have 2, the other is Martin(black)! both boyz!

  • Our gerbil does not have a tail. Should it?

  • all gerbils should have a tail. The tail is sensitive so it might have fallen off, or its not a real gerbil and you are mistaken.

  • @XxmitsubishimanXx: yes they are active, Boys are more avtive then girl gerbils. Well, at least mine are.

  • you shouldnt give plastic to gerbils

  • are gerbils active?

  • yes, VERY active! much more active than hamsters, thats for shure!

  • how do u tell male from female gerbils?

  • You flip them on their backs and see if they have dots on their belly (Their nipples) XP

  • you should get them a wheel to play on too

  • My gerbils have eaten one actually. ;pp

Then I bought one made entirely of metal and they just played with it, no eating. ;p

  • just get loads of toilet rolls with out the loo paper on them (you can probably buy lots in a bunch) and theyl love that:)

  • nope its that boys are less ogressive and they are better when they are related but if you did match to male girbles from a diffrerent family i still dont think they would fight but god my gerbils are so afraid all the time

  • the gerbils will eventually chew the plastuc toys!

    --but cool setup

  • sry but plastic toys are not so good for the gerbils is it better when you the gerbils nature toyss have :)

  • la wea fea, sorry

  • wow my gerbil looks jus like those

  • i have to baby boy girbles and there great though i heard that females were more oggresive than males, is that true?

  • no ita the opposite most makeles are more agresive than females

    becouse femals are more relaxed

  • Thats not True. Gerbil Females Will Fight ALOT more Than Males.

Also, if you introduce a male to another male that are not related, you will have a better result.

If you get a female, and introuduce it to another, the chance of them scrapping and biteing each other will be more. =)

  • no not at all all gerbils r the same if u handel them every day

  • poor little fluffs they look sweey

  • Tenshi1 is right, they might chew on the plastic and when they digest it it's toxic! So you might use wooden toys instead. Also, more woodshavings (about 25 cm high) is a VERY good idea! They love digging and will make burrows and nests (you can offer them hay, straw or toilet-paper for the nests ^^)! Will keep them busy and happy ;) I see you love your pets, so take no offence, it's just an advice. Greetings from me and my 3 gerbil-boys Yuki, Chin and Kuroi!

  • most gerbil tubes arnt toxic, they are made for them gerbils

  • Gerbils are diggers, you might want to put some more woodshavings in their aquarium. :) Oh and lose the plastic toys, if they chew on it and swallow some they could die like said before.

  • those gerbils look absolutely fine and well looked after - what are you on about???

  • They look very happy :0) Gerbils will always amuse you if you treat them right.

    L&L

  • my gerbils dont play with toys, they eat them

  • its the same with mine. they also like chewing ME as well!

  • thats hamsters

  • cute toys! just make sure they are not chewing on the plastic, they could die from that.

  • i wanna get a second gerbil anyone recomend whether i should get another male or should i get a male

or does it not make a difference

plus i wanna get some random tubing for the cage/aquarium

  • gerbils do best samesex buddies but only if you get them at the same time,if u introduce another they will fight

  • i would say not to get a male they might fight and think there is a female i would recommend getting a female just keep and eye on them.

  • mines 4 yeare old

    she had 15 babis

  • i have gerbils and can you tell me what toys they like?
