I've just finished the third book, and watched this. My Gods... I can't believe how much has changed since these scenes were current. Half of them dead, others once effete now powerful, and real power in all too different and unexpected hands. The story of Westeros is the most surprising I've ever read.

@calden You need to read more closely. Renly/Loras is abundantly clear in the books. It's an open secret for most of the noble characters, they even use the same euphemisms that we use today about closeted people. And without going into spoilers, there's at least one major plot point that only occurs because everyone knows Renly is gay. There's not much else that can be done to make it clear that a non-POV supporting character is a closeted gay man.
@calden Well, I try to look at them as two separate stories. Because if I tried to involve them and compare them, I would just be disappointed. If looked at without comparing to the book, the show is fabulously written and has a top notch cast. So, gotta love it all! Haha. :D

@calden Martin has said that the scenes in the show are fine, that Renly and Loras' relationship just went over the heads of a lot of readers because he didn't make it completely obvious. He was gay, that's just how it is.

As i understand it, Prison Break was broadcasted by FOX which has alot of baggage coming with it. They cant use the fuck word and there is no nudity and no excessive violence, and if it has some, it isnt shown directly. HBO series doesnt have that, and thats why i generally prefer HBO series instead of commercial ones.
I have been watching this show just recently and managed to watch the first nine episodes over one weekend I was a major fan of the books and was real excited when I started watching the show how close it was to the text. Brilliant writing George
@galept The Tudors is an inaccurate stab at an over-used period of history. The sex and violence sells it. The Borgias is a more comparable series to The Tudors since it's similar in it's inaccuracy and exploitation. This series is far more mature and the adult content takes a part in the whole politics and word play of the whole thing - something I doubt it could have if it wasn't so close to it's original text, the well-written series. Also, this is seen as the best thing on US TV. Watch. :)

As i understand it, Prison Break was broadcasted by FOX which has alot of baggage coming with it. They cant use the fuck word and there is no nudity and no excessive violence, and if it has some, it isnt shown directly. HBO series doesnt have that, and thats why i generally prefer HBO series instead of commercial ones.

I have been watching this show just recently and managed to watch the first nine episodes over one weekend I was a major fan of the books and was real excited when I started watching the show how close it was to the text. Brilliant writing George

anyone seen Showtime's "The Tudors"? how does this compare??

@galept The Tudors is an inaccurate stab at an over-used period of history. The sex and violence sells it. The Borgias is a more comparable series to The Tudors since it's similar in it's inaccuracy and exploitation. This series is far more mature and the adult content takes a part in the whole politics and word play of the whole thing - something I doubt it could have if it wasn't so close to it's original text, the well-written series. Also, this is seen as the best thing on US TV. Watch. :)

@sachagoat I actually have been following Game of Thrones very actively, it was The Tudors that I hadn't seen and was wondering how it stacked up against Game. Thanks for the insight, this is by far the most entertaining show I've seen in a long time.
