  • Sounds like cynic

  • ooh shit I thought it was a actual legend,Sabbath's Bill Ward..damn 30 seconds I won't get back ..lol!

  • @sungodrah shut the fuck up. This guy kicks Bill Wards ass.

  • Didn't Billy Ward play in Black Sabbath? Oh wait...that's "BILL" Ward.

  • thumbs up if you feel that the guitars are more impressive than the drumming.

  • this isn't the same Bill Ward who drummed with Black sabbath right?

  • instead of admiring his drumming as it happened i was more in a state of "holy shit did he just do that?" all his fills where crazy fast yet so subtle

  • Question - he sets up the left foot double bass slave pedal to the left of the hi hat ? I've rarely seen that. Is the connecting shaft long enough ? Or is his shaft customized like Bozzio's ...........please answer ...........anyone

  • @STIXAHOY

Shaft is long enough. It may be a custom shaft, but it looks standard.

  • @STIXAHOY the shaft is not longer or custom made, billy ward has his hihat pedal set up with a narrower space between the hat pedal and his primary kick. because these two pedals are closer, there isn't room for him to place his secondary kick pedal on the inside of the hihat. If you watch his movie "Big Time" (which is amazing by the way) all of his nuances and quirks are explained.

  • His way of playing is sooooo cool! It looks so easy and laid back - love it! Great rhythm section as well!

  • gawwwwh that ride is huge.

  • Man with three cymbalstands and four cymbals, three of them are rides. But love the guys playing. The whole thing they played was fun to listen through. :)

  • Woah. He plays drums way better than the shaker.

  • i thought this was gonna be bill ward from sabbath.

  • No he's the rich one. This is the talented one.

  • @sabracadabra1973 me too

  • I'm 100% Sabian, but his cymbals are tight!! Man they're cool

  • his drumset sounds like its made out of paper

  • i cant get my skins to sound like his :(

  • lovin that billys got notation on his floor tom

  • ooouch. he's got faaat!

  • zzzzzzzzzzz someone please pinch me and wake me up zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • @tdkz72 *pinch*

  • If I remember correctly, Billy's also in MD 2000 dvd...what a beast :)

  • random noodle bullshit

  • POCKET!!

  • This guy is SO much better than Bill Ward from Sabbath!

He's got it all- awesome setup, technique, power, feel, style, double bass pedals, dynamics- what a guy!

  • Oh, THAT Billy Ward. I thought you were talking about the Black Sabbath guy...

  • smooth

  • im into a lot of punk and metal, especially death metal, but this is amazing!! The feel is out of this world!

  • @DavidChoiDrumz yes, you're young. it's time to learn some music :)))

  • @DavidChoiDrumz There are so many things that are entailed in jazz, that its hard not to like it. Really all jazz is a way to present a rhythm and a feel. You've already noticed how this particular group took themes that are familiar to your preferred listening style and just gave it that feeling that is well known to jazz. I study and play Jazz but with rock music being my main field of performance. I have found that Jazz makes everything sound good or at least having that Jazz training will.

  • @JazzieIQ thats probably because jazz makes you focus on your control and dynamics more than rock or metal. I'm a seventeen year old metal drummer, but I'd still say every drummer should start by learning jazz, so that the basics come easier.

  • Badass dude :)

  • Billy taught my drum teacher

  • @yoyotony28 taught him how to be lame! right guys? lol!

  • Billy Ward--drum king. Can't get enough!

  • anyone know the name of the trio? or was it couple of session guys he got in just for that event?

  • To me, it seemed like this tune was on the verge of falling apart at any second.

  • i think thats partly the idea.

  • it makes me anxious, i dont like it. word up dude.

  • not into the whole jazz/fusion sound but this guy is fucking amazing.. listen to his chops...very tight

  • is this the bill ward from sabath??

  • nope

  • billy looks like he's gonna kill someone. check out the aggression on his face wow

  • What's that under the crash? Looks like a splash. =o

  • amazing song¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • FUSSIOONN!!! those who think jazz vibes are boring and complete twats are just immature listeners haha. I used to like heavy stuff as a young teen (and still likes it now), but I learned to appreciate the intricacies of other music genres such as jazz as time went by. Btw, this vid is really entertaining

  • Agreed. If this makes any sense, my top 5 bands of all time are Death, Cynic, Emperor, Return To Forever, and Weather Report. :P

  • wat about mavishnu????? lol

  • I love them, but I don't really listen to them that much

  • Same here!

  • This isn't boring, this is sweet

  • You call this boring... i dont think so

  • Os kras são D+++

  • what happen to your body bill?! haha

  • i thought this was bill ward from sabbath.... what's this? people play this? and what's freakier is that people listen to it. bizarre.

  • Yea doesnt it suck that he ACTUALLY grooves? I cant believe he doesnt just blast all day, now that would sound good, NOT

  • what's under his first crash/ride to the left?

  • It's another cymbal. You can get a nice "thrashy" sound by doing like that. Try it! :)

  • Billy's one of the few people who are able to bring a jazz vibe successfully into a more "rock" context; his playing sounds really organic and dynamic, but always precise.

  • the jazz vibe .... compleat twat

  • I usually love billy ward but he seems a bit lost in this clip.

  • Billy is just great. I have had a lesson with him and he is such a creative musician. He just thinks differently than most drummers.

  • not only is billy's playing fantastic, his philosophy is killer too.

  • he is using a zildjian

  • thats a nice set : b

  • so slow and yet i cant even attempt to play it

  • slow = difficult

  • yeah :p

  • This is a great groove to try to play because of that. If you are a cat that is used to just busting out the gate and playing solos in that "comfort zone" that each drummer has then you should attempt solos and grooves outside of that. For me, reaching out of the "comfort zone" is doing something slow or a groovy solo in 3/4 or 6/8 at like 85 or 90 bmp. It pushes your creativity and you are able to groove no matter the tempo.

  • does anyone know what ride he is using?

  • what kind of guitar is that fender or fender imitation? I have never seen that guitar before!

  • Sadowsky possible there a custom company

  • One of my favourite players ever! Great guy as well!

  • Drums are DW collectors series in an exotic finish, I believe.

  • Kinda sweet how he doesnt hit his hi-hats more than like once

  • dw makes some sick drums.

  • did he recently switch to Zildjian?

  • He's been with Zildjian for years

  • the finish on those drums is ridiculous

  • Yeh i like it tight too =)

  • i love DW :)

  • Right on! holy crap the drums are BEAUTIFUL

  • Damn those rides sounds SWEET :D

    Billy is like, totally awesome!!!

  • I really like Billy, because he has this awesome groove about everything he does (which is what a drummer is supposed to do). When he's playing it is always abvious were the count is unlike some guys where you have to wait for the one to know where they are if they hit the one. He just has great groove.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • hey do you know how tall is he? I saw a photo where he was with stanton moore and he looked huge, like 2 heads taller that him

  • it's just stanton moore who's a tiny, funky man

  • r u serious?

  • billy ward is a sick drummer.

  • beautiful kit

  • when is this out?

god.. im fucking tired of waiting!

  • Looks so much younger that's what happens whe you quit drinking :))

  • it always pains me to see my favorite drummers getting fat.

  • Hey, it's just more of him to love!

  • I didnt think of that.good show!

  • I want that dudes Wal bass.

  • Anyone knows what's that thing under his left ride? Is it a new Zildjian thing, or another Billy Ward's new toy? I know Billy Ward likes to add new toys to his drum kit...

  • its a tamborine on the hi hat

  • looks like a splash to me...either a 10" or a 12"...

  • I think its a splash. It makes ´the cymbal sizzle

  • on his dvd he said he puts chinas and stuff under them I think

  • The first time I saw him was when I bought the MD Fest '00 VHS (Because I was a Akira Jimbo freak) then I saw Billy and Vinnie....OMG BEASTS!!!

  • Same here...I was like "what the hell is this guy's deal." I hated his clip on the 2000 DVD for a long time, then I took a real good listen and was like "OK I get it now..."

The Hilary Jones solo is still the best on that DVD.

  • Naw Hilary Jones is okay but she is too stiff for my taste Vinnie made my jaw drop....

  • yep...vinnie will always take it. especially with Karizma

  • billy owns...hell of a nice guy too. u could also see me in the audience.

  • Who is this guy? Is this Bill Ward the original Black Sabbath drummer?

  • No Billy Ward and Bill Ward are 2 different guys

  • i guess he's very young to be playing with black sabbath since 1968 now, isn't he? ;-)

  • Sshhh, don't let the other youtubers know that the secret to eternal youth is drumming! :D

  • this is freakin great! Billy is the man!

  • I love Billy Ward! He is so tasteful!!! Luv his cymbals too!!!!!!!!!!!!
