  • Hi there. Just a question. OK so you have mastered the Split Stroke, but the problem for me would be incorporating it into a solo, where do you put it? I mean when I listen to Formby's solo's you can hear the split stroke, I take it it is just knowing when they occur in the solo? Anyways you are a brilliant teacher!

  • Don't think the comment I made with the video I posted came up.. its not a response because I'm not playing the strumming tricks that I'm trying to learn, because I can't do them yet, but I hope to migrate from finger picking as in the video to formby style for this song (which I wrote). Only had the Uke six months so going to try to use these tricks in future versions of this song and others. Cheers!!

  • Thanks. You are doing an excellent job, hope you realise that aspiring uke geeks the world over are sitting at home going ahhhhh and then pissing off there housmates for hours after. Jack Jones video is very useful also. cheers Peter!

  • only just found you on here, very impressed, your going to teach me to play

  • Much enjoying your videos. I've only got a cheap Uke right now and I'm wondering if the action is bad because I am finding these techniques so hard. Any views?

  • thanks for breaking it down to the finger chart peter,it makes it much easier to learn now.

  • You sometimes play right handed and sometimes left handed why is this

  • really helpful ;] sadly i can never practice. and my uke isn't tuned either so ;[

  • Great tutorial as ever. Can you post the chords? I recognise it as the same snippet on the Jack Jones vid, but the changes are too fast for me to see the chords - cheers!

  • As you can tell from my videos, I never think too hard about what my fingers are doing!

  • Forgetting the finger lift for now, if we can agree a seven part sequence for a basic split-stroke as follows - DUDDUDD (D=Down / U=Up) which is how I've ALWAYS played and taught it, then the sequence of fingering I use over these seven strokes to achieve a fan stroke is - index (D) index (U) little (D) thumb (D) index (U) little (D) thumb (D) Try it out. I'd be very surprised if you don't get the desired fan effect from this.
  • It certainly sounds better than the way i do it/the way it sounds for me. But it's gonna be hard getting out of the other way. Ps: any idea what songs you'll be doing at the convention? Only a week to go and I've learnt no songs yet!
