  • I remember seeing this when I was 8! Totally the same trail that we saw too, love that you caught it on camera!

  • @kiannasutube We used to see a lot more rocket launch trails like this one in the 70s, but they don't seem to do as many now, and they've changed the rocket fuel so that it isn't quite so luminous as well. Quite a sight though when they do send them up at dusk! Thanks for checking it out =)

  • That music is scary...! And so are the 'chem trails'...

  • Those rocket trails are indeed pretty spooky - especially if you don't know where they came from! XD Thanks for checking it out =)

  • Simlpy contrail, not 'chemtrail' (chemtrails are an hoax)

  • The definition of the terms contrail and chemtrail do tend to be ambiguous and subject to opinion... However, unlike jet trails which are composed largely of condensed water vapor, particulates, and gases, this plume is the result of a chemical solid rocket fuel burn (aluminum/ammonium perchlorate), like the Space Shuttle SRBs, and is composed of aluminum oxide, aluminum chloride, water vapor and nitrogen gas, plus other trace elements - Probably more "chem" than "con" IMHO. :-)

  • @collapsedstar OMG! When I see comments like yours I throw up a little.. Just answer me one question. Without a continuing heat source, how do your "contrails" grow bigger and bigger and linger for hours? Not to mention chemtrails were admitted. Are you a shill or just to lazy to do research?

  • Yep, the one i saw in SD looked just like this! Very cool. I seen a few others too and a rocket in air. All from SD.

  • Wierdly I saw this when I was in california in 99 working for 3 weeks. This was the only time I have ever been in CA and flew over from the UK. I was driving south of SF towards dusk and saw the huge streaky super high jettrail. I pretty worked out it was in the direction of vandenburg and I think I later heard it was a star wars test shot.

Interesting to see a utube video of it, i assumed it was common place.

  • Seems like there used to be a lot more launch plumes like this one, but they are pretty rare at present. You definitely lucked-out getting to see this one - it was one of the more spectacular plumes I've seen. While launches from VAFB are fairly common (one per month or so), the newer fuels burn cleaner so there isn't much of a plume. Still, I'm always watching the launch schedule for those dusk launches! =)

  • A rocket launch....no such thing as "chemtrails" except in the minds of adults who have not grown up to understand basic science---just a beautiful cld formation from a rocket launch! Have seen many and beautiful!

  • Indeed, dusk launch rocket plumes can be spectacular! The term "chemtrail" is somewhat ambiguous, and I guess its validity really depends on how one defines it. Only LH2/LOx engines produce pure water vapor contrails, but just about everything else has H2O AND some sort of chemiclals in it. Solid propellant combustion (aluminum/ammonium perchlorate, HMX [C4H8N4(NO2)4], etc) probably has the highest concentration of compounds, and probably most fits the "chemtrail" label, IMHO anyway :-)

  • @jcmegabyte Well the point is there are those who claim "chemtrails" but claim they are created to alter the earth's atmosphere and are used to control people---which is silly---

  • I agree, conspiracy/black-ops theories are pretty speculative, and "chemtrail" is a bit of a buzzword for stuff like that. I believe that nearly all the trails we see are the unintentional by-products of commercial air traffic, rather than intentional "spraying", but either way their effects are measurable and the impact on the global climate system has yet to be fully understood. It's said that altering things by even a tiny bit could have big long-term effects. It's fascinating stuff!! =)

  • here we get similar displays following Shuttle Launches when the Vehicles go right before sunrise...such a beautiful display.

  • Dusk and Dawn launches are the best! It's been a LONG time since they've sent anything up at a good time of day from Vandenberg, but I always look forward to the potential of a great show. :-)

  • Yup - the reflective microscopic metallic particles and prismatic effects from tiny ice crystals can really put on a show in the extreme upper atmosphere... I'm still waiting for another dusk launch like this one so I can get some really good time lapse footage :-)

  • Niesamowity klip

  • when all of the residue in the air is glowing it looks like a portal is opening in the sky to let out monsters from another dimension. lol, sorta like a dream i had once ;)

  • I know a lot of people were really freaked out by this event, and I'm sure there were plenty of strange calls to 911 XD It definitely does look otherworldly like that. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • Fantastic!

  • I wish I had better equipment back then... I would have loved to get HD and time lapse footage of this launch. Thanks for checking it out! =)

  • you may think your are conversant in science, but sorry you are completely ignorant.

I have explained yo you what these Contrail gaps are caused by. The Jet Stream is just that. A stream of air completely different from surrounding air Jet streams have a definite boundary where air on one side is completely different in speed, humidity and temperature from the air in the jet stream. NOW, is that sufficient proof that gaps do occur in Contrails ?

  • If it's one thing I've learned by filming literally thousands of sky/cloud/trail time lapses, it's that the atmosphere is amazingly dynamic and in constant motion, even if the jetstream isn't nearby. The 9 miles of air over our heads can contain a myriad of different conditions (temperature, humidity, pressure) all adjacent to each other. Air can be moving up, down and in multiple layers moving at 90 degrees to each other. The visual documentation I've filmed is just fascinating! =)

  • great videos. I think the people who think of the atmosphere as 2 dimensional have 2 dimensional minds

  • That may well be a scientific fact - I've heard it said that many people have trouble thinking in 3D. ...and it's too bad so many are unwilling (or too lazy) to do their own independant research and really understand things (i.e. the atmosphere) from every perspective. :-/

  • NASTY LOOKING BEAST

  • It was definitely a freaky sight - especially for anyone who didn't know what it was. Thanks for visiting!

  • There are charts you can use to prove contrails should not be forming let alone persisting. For starters, it must be -35C for contrails to form. Check out my how-to vid here: watch?v=zsXfqHp7G-g

  • One of VERY few actual "chemtrail" videos on youtube.

  • Yup - When an engine burns a mixture powered aluminum and amonium perclorate, there's no doubt about the trail contrent!

  • True.

  • faitinscience

Are there ANY other genuine Chemtrail videos. If so please reference !

  • Uh oh...l hope I don't upset you again!

Have you forgiven me for upsetting you before, about NOTHING!!!????

    LOL!!!

ANY trail that is from a rocket, is a "chemtrail" (trail of chemicals). Reference them yourself. I'm done with you.

  • I don't think anything you might say will be of any use anyway.

  • I was living in Santa Clarita in Southern California when this rocket was launched and I saw it from the start. It was a bright pin point in the sky trailing a bright tail of light. The pin point then began to gas outward leaving what you see in this video.

  • I remember that, too... By the time I got back inside, dug-out my old VHS camcorder and started recording, this was al that was left. No time lapse back then either or I could have had some very cool footage. Still, Vandenberg launches are surprisingly visible from Santa Clarita, so I keep watching the launch schedule for another event like this one. Thanks for watching and commenting! :-)

  • Awesome.

So some 'luck' is involved in finding these sights ? If so,how can you be so 'lucky' ? Even if you had 24 hour a day cameras going.

Thanks for sharing your work !

  • This one was just luck. I happened outside and saw some neighbors staring at the sky. I missed most of the launch but managed to get the shots you see here. Now I am on a mailing list that details the Vandenberg launch schedule (more or less) so I get SOME advance notice. Dusk launches are rare but spectaular. Another Minuteman test is scheduled for Aug. 23rd, time of day unknown at this point. The info is out there if you hunt for it! :-)

  • Amazing!

  • Thanks for checking it out! There's supposed to be another Minuteman missile going up in another few weeks - I hope to get some HD timelapse footage of it. :-)

  • awesome,cool thing to see,good post

  • I keep watching the Vandenberg launch schedule for more evening launches like this one but haven't happened onto one yet. There'll be more footage online as soon as I get some :-)

  • Haha, I watch that website like a hawk myself. I am about 150 miles from the base and have seen a couple launches. Even from that distance it's still impressive.

  • Do you get the launch alert emails? Those can be handy. I haven't seen a good launch in a long while. Timing is everything and when those rare polar obital launches go up at dusk it can be quite spectacular here since the flyby comes pretty close (40-50 mile west of here) at times. A Minuteman III missile intercept test is supposed to go up June 29. Hopefully another evening launch! :-)

  • I haven't signed up for the alert emails. I should do that. The military launches do not give specific times when they launch so it can be tough, as you know, to view them. The last launch I saw was OCO and everything worked out well. The clouds cleared away and the launch was on schedule. The dusk launches are really spectacular. The last one I saw was about 8 or so years ago.

  • Ah I love all your videos, I remember this happening when i was at the Junior High from Tijuana, all the people where scared lol. Thanks for the images ^^

  • It was a pretty spectacular event. A lot of people got really freaked out since the military didn't do much to announce it to the public. All of a sudden - there it was! I was glad to have my cameras available at the time. Thanks for checking it out :-)

  • this is proof of alien

  • I saw this launch from Isla Vista in 1999! Definitely one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. Thanks for the video memories.

  • There used to be more light shows like this but they seem to have cut back a bit, or changed launch times to day/night when they aren't as visible. Thanks for watching commenting! =D

  • Beautiful! Last scene was it same as first? Of course song plays a big role ;) 5 stars Thank you.

  • That Halloween monster music soundtrack sure fits well, doesn't it? Hahahhaa XD This video consists of only 2 short VHS video segments (I wish I had shot more) which played first, which are then followed by a series of still photos I shot with a digital still camera. The last scene was the best (clearest and most colorful) still photo in the series - animated with WMM's "ease-in" effect to give it some "life" while the text and credits played. Thanks for the view and comment :D

  • thanks for not calling it a meteor.. there are so many idiots in Long Beach that paniced and thought that we were going to die from metoer strikes... i tried explaining it was all from a rocket, but ignorance prevails!

  • Hahahah XD Isn't the general public a riot? Paniced little herd animals, some of them. Funny how you can explain all the facts and science you want to them and they still scream wrath of god-type stuff and scurry around like rodents.

Yea, I actually did my homework on this one, and I'm watching the Vandenberg launch schedule for upcoming dusk launches. Hopefully to post some better footage in the future. Thanks for the view and comment! :D

  • seeing is believing - 5 stars

  • It was quite a sight! And the documentation is solid - no speculation or hype - it's the real thing. :D Thanks for watching!

  • incredible and kinda worrying...

  • Yea - let's hope we never have to use those missiles! Ironically, the amount of aluminum in that cloud is tiny compared to other sources such as manufacturing, recycling and use of it. It's much easier to point at easy-to-see stuff in the sky than it is to detect the really significant sources. I was amazed to find out about all the things aluminum is used for - even processing crude petroleum into gas, deisel and kerocene uses aluminum chloride. Fascinating stuff. Thanks for watching! :D

  • Spectacular and scary at the same time! Thanks for posting it!!!

  • My pleasure - I hope to get more footage of dusk launches in the future. Thanks for watching/commenting :D

  • by the way, love the eerie b.g. music

  • Thanks again! I wrote that music for Halloween - and it worked so well that many of the really young trick-or-treators wouldn't even come into my yard where the music was playing! Ahh yes, good times! Hahahaha XD

  • Nice work JC. Interesting! And scary - I wish the general public could get a straight answer on the whole "Chem Trail Thing".

  • Thanks for the nice comment! :-) Actually, the truth IS out there (pardon the pun!), but few take time to study how the atmosphere really works; why moisture condenses or evaporates. 99.99% of trails are just water vapor/kerocene exhaust. The trail THIS video is mostly aluminum and nitrogen(see vid details). Aside from rare weather/military experiments, most chemical pollution is from industry and manufacturing on the ground, but people LOVE their X-Files and hate anyone that contradicts! :D

  • From 1999^ Still looks great.Spectacular!

    Thanks for sharing.

    Blessings

    Bianca

  • It looks surprisingly better on YT than in its original form on my machine at home - quite a switch from the way it usually works! Thanks for watching and commenting :-)

  • Thanks for stopping by to watch! :D

  • wow

  • Thanks for the view! :-)

  • Wow. interesting

  • Yea - it really stirred-up some attention! Thanks for the view and comment! :-)

  • That's very cool! Thanks for sharing it!

  • My pleasure - thanks for the view and comment :D

  • Do you ever get the glowing rainbow cloud effects even after it gets dark? There's probably little or no barium in it (barium glows green, just like in fireworks) as many rockets/missiles use solid propellant with perchlorates and aluminum powder - fairly nasty, corrosive stuff when burned. Interesting stuff.

  • WOW Super cool vid ...Dee

  • Thanks, Dee! Glad you liked it :D

  • Really cool video..

  • Ironic how such a visually spectacular thing can be the toxic result of a military weapon. "My, but that's a beautiful Sword you have there". Thanks for watching :D

  • Beautiful video. Amazing how something

so deadly, can seem so beautiful.

  • Are you ready for the day launch of the Delta on Thursday? I'm going to the platform off Firefighter Rd. The twilight shots always make for a spectacular chem trial and you caught it beautifully. Nice work.

  • Cool! I see a Delta II scheduled for Sept 4, but it looks like a mid-morning launch window, 11:50a-11:57a PDT Have they pushed it into the evening? Either way, if the sky is clear I'll take the cameras outside and watch for it. Thanks for the heads-up. I signed up for the launch schedule emails, too. :D

  • Do you always carry a camera with you? How did you manage to catch such a rare sight? If kind of defies description!

  • Actually, I do. I carry my older Pentax S40 (4Mp) mini cam in a hard case on my bat-belt. It shoots great stills but unfortunately the video is poor - 320x240 res only, but at least if does 30fps. I spotted that 1999 launch by random chance. Happened to go outside and see it, ran back in and grabbed the cams! :D

  • an amazing sight.

  • Fantastico....Gracias....!!!!!!

  • Wow. Very interesting!

  • It is alien writing in the sky, similar to alien messages on the freeway walls. See proof on my site. Many believers are silenced by the CIA. Watch your back.

  • Awesome...I've always tought those trails were straight, and not with so many curves...Of course, 5/5, great video ;)

  • Where have you been hiding this one? I can imagine the 911 center blowing up from calls of people thinking they saw Aurora or aliens. What else do you have back in that vault of yours, this evoked a lot of emotions.

  • Beautiful video and very good music. hard to believe that pollution can be so beautiful.

Piękny klip i bardzo dobra muzyka. trudno uwierzyć że zanieczyszczenie może być tak piękne.

    Kolejny świetny film.

  • Truly a peculiar trail. Good footage.

  • Wow! I would have loved to see that in real life.

  • Amazing how pollutants are made into something SO beautiful by nature...lovely, thank you! kx

  • Another good video, excellent! This is very interesting what happens to the atmosphere,it's nice to watch(and there's always the presence of Halloween's music;-)

  • wowo its very sci-fi lol looks cool as i wanna c something exciting !! i wanna go on an adventure lol !!!

  • excelente!!!!! 5******

  • cool!!!

  • That is very very interesting ; btw beautiful form in the sky.

  • wow,you catch some remarkable stuffmate, got mass respect for you, keep the vids coming, i love nature

  • Maybe it's because California is one of the weirdness capitols of the world? Hahaha XD Lotsa interesting stuff to shoot here. Thanks for the nice comment :D

  • Awesome it looks beautiful

  • As man-mad weirdness goes, it was pretty cool to watch. Thanks for the view and comment :D

  • What an amazing sight to see!! I love the night shot when the vapor is glowing in the upper atmosphere...Kind of spooky!

    Great video,very interesting stuff!

    64m >:-)

  • Yea - people were really freaking about that! A big, glowing rainbow cloud in the night sky just has a sort of ominous feel to it! Thanks for taking the time to view and commment :D

  • Como imagen, es espectacular.

    La música, buenísima, como siempre.

  • It was quite the sight indeed - thanks for the nice comment and view! :-)

  • Beautiful video and great music. 5*.

  • This was amazing! I loved it! Thanks for sharing. :)

  • I only wish I had better footage - thanks for the view and comment! :-)

  • AMAZING

  • Thanks for watching :-)

  • Amazing sights.

Congrats to Technician once again on the beautiful music;)

  • Thanks, Ray :D That Halloween CD sure gets a lot of air time these days! Hahaha XD

  • wow!!beautiful video!!☆☆☆☆☆

    ***** paolo :

  • Thanks for the view and comment! :D

  • Wow!! Thats so cool! It looked like my cursive writing at first..then it started to look like a msns profil! lol XD

Wow...how many hours did it last? O_o

  • That's the really weird thing about this trail - the missile basically went straight, in a slow curving arc as it headed SW out over the pacific ocean. After an hour, the natural air movements in the atmsophere had twisted the plume all around like that. Goes to show you that the atmosphere has a life of its own and only rarely do we get to see its true motion. The whole show lasted over 2 hours and was on the evening news. :D

  • Whoa that was weird but beautiful at the same time.. I can only imagine what it was like to witness in reality. Amazing to watch here, though! Just amazing!

  • It was very slow moving, but spectacular. I would have liked to time lapse it, but alas, no equipment back then. Thanks for watching and commenting! :-)

  • ♥♪♫*¨*•.¸¸❤¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪♥ Espectacular..felicidades..estrellas de oro..Nena♥♪♫*¨*•.¸¸❤¸¸.•*¨*•♫♪♥

  • Thanks, Nena! :D

  • Wow! That had to be spectacular to witness IRL.

  • It definitely was - many people got to see it, and it was on the evening news. :D

  • Wow Wild! I remember seeing some launches from Vandenberg when I was living in Sunnyvale.

  • I don't see them anywhere as often as I used to. I think the people of Lompoc (the town adjacent to the base) were getting gassed by toxic rocket plumes too often, so a lot of launches may have been moved to other locations, maybe even other countries. Thanks for the view and comment! :D

  • What a shame, and such a beautiful butterfly.
