i am doing this exact swap now haha! i have a 85 toyota that had the 22re. i blew up the motor (stupid timing chain) and dedcided to get the 3.4 vs spending money on a 22re... what did you do for the wiring?
I was lucky enough to order a wiring kit from Off Road Solutions before they closed shop. If you need help with wiring I may be able to answer some questions; however, in the mean time check out Yota Yech, they have a full 3.4 Swap Forum and several right ups.
@ChuckSC1982 i got my motor running now. took me 10 hours to wire everything. i didnt have the luck to buy a conversion harness haha! but i am lucky enough that my dad works at the dealership, so he printed me off the wiring diagrams for the engine control and stuff.
hey, what did you do for the oil pan? are you rockin' the 3.slow oil pan, or did you keep the 3.4 pan?
In all honesty, I think it's perfect when not using the dual case set up, but for East coast wheeling when locked in low-low.. its a little absurd. I think with 5.29s my crawl ratio is like 233:1 or something retarded.
Yeah, man.. me too. However, the wiring is MUCH more complicated and there are already several resources out there for this swap. Thus, this made much more sense.. not to mention.. whether you go with this engine, the 4.0, 4.3, or any V6 besides the 3.slow... it will be more than enough power for a rig this size/weight.
@NastyBuilt... The 4.0 would have been nice, don't get me wrong, but the wiring would have been MUCH more of a headache. The 3.4 is great so far. As you mentioned, at the time I did the swap there were no adapters for duals for the 4.0 trans either. Anyway, I'm WAY over geared and weight really isn't a factor in the south. This isn't meant to be a buggy, its a rock crawler truck.. it's not near as heavy as most. I'll check out your rig... happy wheeling.
to those of you that have asked, there has been a LOT of progress on the truck and this video was made for my brother who (kinda) helped me start this engine swap.
yea. ive got the 22re, pinky toe of power. itd be more of an ordeal cuz id have to get a different tranny and beef up the driveline. lots of extra work.
i was wondering if your toyota has hit the streert yet and if so how does it do

Thanks Dry8ice.. I'd say go for it, especially if you had a 3.0 V6 in your 92.. that makes for a FAR easier swap. You wouldn't regret it..
