  • Ive been mixin for about 6 years on yee ol trusty 1210's gonna make the move to cd... problem being i dunno what to pick between pioneer 400's or 350's. Dont quite have the dollar for 800's or 850's

  • Can someone explain how you set your mixer so that you can scratch with one cdj, i recently started and am using the rane ttm56 and the denon dns3700

  • @patrickjambo17

  • kk ppl to get this go to google and search youtube to mp3 converter, after you find 1 download the mp3 of this video and cut the last bit of audio from the video

    hope this helps =D

  • hey mate great video

a few questions though, the black box that you play with when scratching with the cdj, is that given with a cdj or must you buy it as a add on? And is it really needed if i wanted to start dj'ing? if so how much does it cost

If you could wright me something back it would be great

    thanks,

  • @papapimp69 That's the mixer. You buy it separately, and yes you'll need one. He's using a top of the line model, but they range anywhere from $400 to $2000 really.

  • So where do you find the Ahhhh scratching sound again

  • haha this IS NOT spam got to video2mp3DOTcom and just copy the link of whatever video you want to convert and then paste it in the box on the video2mp3 site...one could get anything on you tube in mp3 form ready to put on a cd this way!

  • serato saved vinyl fuk a cdj

  • That is 100% true

  • do you use scratch samples when scratching?

if yes, where do u get them from ??

  • i have all scratch samples from DJ QBERT ON MP3

  • give em to me!? :)

  • Yeah.

    And I'm a donkey wearing a Santa suit. </3

  • That sample was taken from "Change the Beat" by Fab 5 Freddy and it was also being as a scratching sound from a 12" single "Who Let the Dogs Out" by Chuck Smooth. I have that sample but it can be used on my Gemsound turntable, but not to be played on my 1975 GE Wildcat and other vintage record players, it doesn't do scratching at all.

  • CD's are wack!! Real DJ's use Vinyl all day son!

  • real djs use vinyl hahahah yeah whatever what makes it any different if you use cds aslong as your mixing scratching and producing the same result what difference does it make

  • Try getting a Dj who used CDJ's to mix with vinyl and they wont have a clue.

  • yeah its really really hard to get ur head around djing on vinyl if u play cds hahah ive been playing vinyl for years and cds no difference whatsoever same shit

  • I 2nd that :)

  • LMAO The difference is you don't have to replace your needles, buy doubles, or strain your back/neck humping your crates of wax around.

  • Nah mate, real DJ's are masters of all things they encounter.

I own sets of 1210's and CDJ1000's (all connected to a DJM800 mixer) and I use both regularly. Using them both has made me a better mixer, and DJ overall.

... Except for laptops... those are wack....

    J/K :)

  • thanx for flipping us all off HAH...good man!

  • the jogwheel was designed by midgets

  • i love that hat :D

  • surprisingly, you can get a lot of useful scratch tools on beatport. do an artist search for "peabird".

  • luv the british accent <33

  • the scratch is fantastic

  • Could you tell me where I can get the fresh sound? I have been looking for it for a couple of weeks now.

    Thanks!

  • Haha, your a legend. "hint hint" hmmm :P Cheers ellaskins! Your videos just keep on helping!

  • is that fresh sound coming from one particular song? (if yes what song) or from the cdj itself?

  • yes its from a song called "change the beat" by Fab 5 Betty

  • Fab 5 Freddy

  • strange, that was supposed to go under another comment. the track is "change the beat" by Fab 5 Freddy

  • Have you got any numark axis 9 tuts ???

  • i fukking love you ellaskins!!!

    always some crazy hats!

like seriosly i found ur videos awsm for learning but now i find myself playin "guess that hat!"

  • homuch cost that deck?

  • cdj400-600euros

    djm800-1550euros

    headphones1000-200euros

  • GREAT GREAT SAMPLE!

If you have audacity just record this and trim it up and save it as an MP3! It's great!

  • audacity records it as a mono track tho. If you download the video and maybe some kind of audio extractor program...maybe if you put two and two together (haha so funny) you may end up with a high quality stereo version. :D

  • Actualy you can record stereo with audacity... forget the previous post! Use audacity, haha.

  • with "cdjs" the needle will never skip, but i prefer vinyl. but these cd player enables a dj to do a few cool tricks too as j explains in other vids.

  • 'if you put 2 and 2 together'

  • wat did he say in 28 seconds i didnt hear it good

  • if you put 2 and 2 together, with regards to this video :)

  • Mmmmm ! I remember that sample from many moons ago when HipHop first came out. It may have been on one of Simon Harris's "Beats Breaks and scratch's" albums or previous to this even on the end of one of the original Electro's. will have to check my collection....

  • Thanks for the sound! Why do they have to make it so hard to find? I'll be using this sound effect at my gigs.

  • hii ...im jus wonderin tht i wnt something eazi to start off with...so which decks should i buy

  • oooh you have the pioneer 400 thats nice im not sure if i should get one ore not

  • thats a djm 800

  • illo habla menos y curratelo mas

  • lol great as always J

    practise and N joy :-)

  • hint hint!

  • Groovindj beat me too it.

    discogs(dot)com/release/51966

There's a cd compilation called "The Celluloid Years: 12"es and More..." that's a little easier to find.

So song is quite horrible to listen to, but when you play the ending, the whole thing is there.

  • Nice Video J,

when you use Mozilla Firefox as Browser, you can install a PlugIn thats called: Download Helper. You find it on the Mozilla HP.With a right Click you can download Videos (Sound and Video). If only Sound is needed, try NO23 Recorder. It´s all free Software.

    Practise and N Joy

  • you got better at scratching jon lol

    ;]

  • you can just buy that sample sound from beatport if you want it as a digital file, check any battle breaks and stuff. Don't be stingy pay for your samples what's £1?

  • no, i will use it on virtual dj and make a 1 minute loop of it first! this just keeps getting better!!!

  • I really love your cap :D Ga danm it is hot !!

But, can you give me som advise, to some hardware, a beginner DJ can start with?

  • beautiful cap...such as a bolscevic...

  • OMG! The Hints are too much J! Too funny.

  • hmm quality at the end isn't that great 2bh

  • then go buy the sample off beatp0rt

  • wow cheers lol

i just used audacity to record the sound of the vid

  • i did that too! i shall rename it and put it on limewire as djtutor-fresh. may i suggest other people do the same and make this readily available?

    thanks J!!!

  • If you want those sounds you could also go BUY DJ rectangle's vinyls (there are others but hes the one that comes to mind) OR a many plethora of scratch sample cd's available if your not a vinyl junkie.

  • That is on every break record. Stuff on Thud rumble, dj craze, battle breaks, toasted marshmallow feet breaks, scratchy seal breaks,.....

  • All of these cdj's look so god darn expensive, are there like any good beginner cd players with mixers for mixing and maybe scratching within like £300.

Good vid though gonna watch sum more to learn :)

  • the latest behringer mixer looks good, crammmmed full of fx and in the uk it's only about £275. j

  • umm thanks know what it called??

  • DDM4000

  • just a mixer though :/ need to try find like a cd player thing AND mixer for around the 350 pound mark if possible umm

  • DDM4000, Im getting it in a few days---cant wait!!!!!!

  • Yea but for some reason behringer products just feel to flimsy to me like if you use them to hard something will snap of or stop working, pioneer on the other hand just feels like you can run over it with your car, go fishing with it, put it in the oven, store it in the fridge and it will still sound great as if nothing ever happend LMAO

  • Remember you pay for what you get , Behringer is good for the beginner dj and it will get you started. j

  • So true!! I have a behringer mixer and unfortunately I cant afford a pioneer, how ever I have played on some before and there wicked!! But like you said in a lot of your videos, its not how good your equipment is, its how creative you can be on it!! Johnathon keep up the good bloody work helping so many dj's around the world

  • i know a website full of scratch samples for free...including this one

  • Yes and it is???????? j

  • a lot of dj tools vinyl records have this sound in the samples

  • I believe that sample was originally from Hashim - Al Naafiysh ,The Soul . Can also be found on many Scratch records .

  • to oldies2527, as far as i know it is from an old French record from the 70's , any one know?? j

  • Thanks for the info , would have never thought that . I'll see if I can hunt that info down .

  • Fab Five Freddy - Change The Beat (1982)
