I think not only the question of who started it is important but also who went on contributing to it. Black people have always been a part of the punk scene, but they probably due to white journalism got faded put.
Hi, I read about Jimmi Hendrix that he did not want to be associated with the black community and that he rather anted to be regarded as an indidvidual. He heavily influenced punk.
I asked sb who is studying music in Tübingen and he sai that Rythm n Blues was regarded by scholars as black music and Rock n Roll was not. Hence the "split up" or the negation started in the 1950s.
Very Good points about the origin of Rock Music. Jagger, Richards, Plant, Page, Clapton, all those guys have made it very clear that they idolized and were influenced by black artist and that they wouldnt be where they were if it wasnt for Little Richard, Willie Dixon, Robert Johnson, etc. etc.
