First off Downie's should have been atleast 2 games for being a repeat offender and just an overall piece of shit. I agree that Kunitz should be suspended, but one game seems fair. He's not a dirty player or a repeat offender. Call me bias cause I'm a pens fan, but Chris isn't dirty. @mantheguns07 Downie left his feet and had his shoulder above Lovejoy's head as he hit him. Even if he hadn't connected with his hit (he did connect), that is intent to injure. Lovejoy wasn't even bent over the puck (he had already gotten rid of it) and Downie still launched himself so high that he almost over-shot him and ended up hitting him with his elbow while it was pressed against his body. How can you say that you want the game to be cleaned up while you defend deliberate head-hunting?

This was in retaliation to the Downie hit that should have gotten 5 mins and a game but wasn't called that way. This game was the poorest reffed game I have seen in the playoffs. The referees completely lost control of it and then didn't know what to call.

I'm not minimizing the elbow and it deserves a suspension but the flying elbow Downie threw was WAY worse. Just look up Downie and Dean McAmmond and look at that hit which got 20 games....

Kunitz on Gagne, Torres on Seabrook, Stoll on White... These are all plays that deserve suspension. I don't care if you are a Canucks fan, a Pens fan, a Kings fan or wherever you are from and whoever you root for. The fact is that these are plays that could be avoided if the players inflicting them wanted to avoid them. Kunitz' play was blatent, intent to injure. Regardless about how you feel about that, Kunitz sticks his elbow out and intentionally aims for the head. This is so far removed from a "good hockey play" and just reeks of "Intent to Injure".

Bone crunching hits like Torres on Seabrook are hockey, hits like this are predatory and need to go. There's no reason for this to be in the game.

Although Kunitz is not considered a dirty player, the NHL was far too easy on him. He should have been suspended for the remainder of the season, not one game. Downey is a repeat offender and should have been suspended longer.

And "checking to the head" and "attempt to injure" have been suspensions for a long time. it's not like this is new. I also agree with your point about Torres on Seabrook... that was a perfectly clean hit. Players need to keep their heads up, it's part of the game, and it should always be a part of the game
