When going throguh basi training in the US, do you choose a role? I see those 3 guys in the end, he asked what they were going to do, they said 3 different roles. So how does taht work? Can a person jsut enlist and choose to be a Sniper for example?

OMG 1/20th god how i hate this place. The only time i wished i hadnt joined was when i was in 1/20th reception. any soldier in ft jackson basic training will tell u the same. toward the end of ur basic u go back for deferred and ASU issue and u will c everyone's face grim with remembrance of 1/20th. basic was nothing 1/20th was a different story lol

Its great training, try your hardest because when its over and done with youll wanna go back. Its not as relaxed as it looks in the video either,.

Ah, memories of reception, somewhat too vivid for my liking but it still was the beginning of a new life.

I may have only spent 4 days at 1/20th, but it feels like I spent more time there than I did at actual Basic Training. I was scared to death but excited for what what ahead of me.

For those that are beginning Basic Training at Fort Jackson in the future, I wish you the best of luck.

The US Army, specifically Drill Sergeant SFC Remington (true last name, hard-core dude), of A-8-2, Ft. Jackson, S.C., saved me from myself, and continues to save me from myself, since June 1982. The military may not be for everyone, but it literally saved my life. I was just a few months south of 17 when I rolled into this place, and scared shitless! The experience is invaluable, pay attention to detail. Drive on!
