  • I'm not familiar with this treatment of the work. Was it ever released in the States? Looks like they tried to mix-it-up a bit, with the jump-cuts & funky camera angles! (As opposed to the more 'staged' look of traditional BBC.) They did the same thing with the modern attempts at Dr. Who & Survivors.

Frankly... I don't see how they could top the 80's mini-series!

  • Am I the only one thinking flame thrower?

  • Eddie Izzard is playing here :)

  • SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT WATER! ALL OF YOU! THAT IS NOT HOW IT WAS IN THE BOOK!!!!!!

  • Thats right, the weekness was Water.

  • this is an awesome movie

  • Where the hell are the plants?

  • This was a gripping, unpretentious science-fiction epic. If the script were as bad as you jackals make out then top class actors like Joley Richardson and Vanessa Redgrave would not have taken part as they did. This is the sort of old school sci-fi that kicks drivel like Heroes and Lost into the compost heap. Get back in your kennels.

  • I love this movie

  • My way of killing Triffids.....FLAMETHROWERS BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!! And if I wanted to use something as a Mine so they won't go over them.....BUNSEN BURNERS MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! And if I didn't have them...RUN AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! :L

  • "My way of killing Triffids""

I think the producer and director of this pile of tosh killed the triffids far more effectively.

  • I really enjoyed this but I did spend most of it yelling "FIND AN ISLAND WITHOUT TRIFFIDS AND LIVE ON IT" from the very beginning. Then lo and behold they did.....after everyone almost died....should have listened to me in the first place..... =p.

  • The Triffids would have been on the island too.

  • Looks nothing like the book described, apart from the mention of "Triffids". Disappointing.

  • a simple way to kill the triffids would be to over water them

  • nope if they dont kill you first then they just walk away

  • @thepigclub Ironically, in the 1962 film of the book, that is exactly how they defeat the triffids in the end. Also, they were aliens that came with the meteors.

  • @fearofthemind and if thats what happened in the 1962 film then it shouldn't be called the film of the book because if you read the book you would know that isn't what happens at all

  • @daddyalien True.

  • @thepigclub are you retarded?

  • @thepigclub That was the stupid 60's movie version!

  • My god, if they were going to change the plot this much they could have released it under a completely new name

    Respect the classics people!!

  • it was average, well ok in parts i guess, apart from the patronising 'mother nature knows best' babble and the paparazzi-like sensationalist treatment of genetic engineering, and knowledgable bushmen- the whole 'green'bordering on 'new age' angle seemed too phoney to me.

I was thinking, oh sh*, i bet it ends with an inane opinionistic moralising. Sure enough it did. (groan).

  • i was suprised when i saw that girl with the gun. I was like 'she is like 8 and she has a gun? WTH?'

  • I liked this alot! It had eddie izzaed init! coool

  • This version was ok, not on a par with the 80's version, but not bad. It seemed to move too fast really, and a number of things didn't seem to gel that well, but otherwise it was a good effort. Would be interesting to see an American version though.

  • You should never wish that American TV would produce classic British Sci. Fi.

  • Triffids are NOT real I just want to emphasise that, do NOT panic....

  • What is the boy tonys in it real name? I cant find it out anywere?

  • this is the best film ever its on the same level as top gear so i now declare that top gear and the day of the triffids 2009 remake are the best things in the world.............................................BY A BILLION MILES

  • to be honest i didnt like the ending could have showed you more. like some people fighting back the triffids then aload of jets goin over dropin napaln or somthing

  • no more humans were on the land where the triffids were so the triffids didnt get fed and so they died lololololololololol dad told me

  • I liked it (the ending with the showdown between Torrence & the Triffids was fab!) but I still prefer the 1981 version.

  • Thank you BBC this was great i liked it.

  • Shame on the BBC! I found this latest version of the Triffids so frustrating I wanted to throw my remote through the TV screen. Wafer thin plot, poor characterisation, moments of gut wrenching and pointless sentimentality and every conceivable lame plot device to foil the 'heroes'. The acting was lamentable. Have we learnrd nothing from US TV drama?

  • Yeah, US tv sucks. I can say that as I am American too. I cannot stand what is on here.

  • What about Star Trek with the Borg & the Dominion war?

  • Er, actually I was complimenting US TV, especially the Sci-Fi! There is an institutionalised snobbery in the UK against Sci-Fi. The BBC is the major offender which is why they were probably too terrified to make the Triffids as it was meant to be.

  • I cannot stand American sci-fi at all. It is really dumb and boring. "Doctor Who" destroys all of it.

  • its not american you idiot

  • @LucasW180

Well duh. I was saying that show is far superior than the garbage we have over here. I am American so I can say this. American TV sucks, British TV is better. Our stuff is as lame as the crap coming out of Canada.

  • Ohh, ok. I thought you were some angry british person. My mistake. But honestly some good TV has come out of the US. Like The Soprano's, Lost and 24.

  • I'd say that House, Lost, Big Love to name but all of the US TV drama's I watch are far superior to this pile of old hokey.

  • I think this is the definitive version, well done BBC!

  • Very, very good horror version. I hope the Slovakian TV will put it in its program.

  • I think the first episode was extremely good & stuck a lot closer to the book than the Howard Keel movie. There are only a few minor elements that deviate from the book which are quite acceptable. CGI makes the triffids a damn sight better than the ones in the BBC series - shame this never made it to the big screen in the past few years, but not like Cruise's War Of The Worlds rubbish.

  • The BBC 1981 adaptation was more faithful to the book!

  • @borgduck Yes, the BBC series followed the book closely.

  • They filmed some of this near to where I live. It'll be a scene in a churchyard.

  • What have they done the eighties show was a lot closer to the book than this mess.

  • @slugworths What they've had to do was to update a book written in the 1950's. It's a brilliant book though, and yes the 80's version was great, I hav it on dvd. I'm hoping they have done a great version for the 21st century. It's on BBC monday at 9pm, so I'll let you know after that first episode what I thought.

  • maaaaan this looks so good!
