  • I love this movies 'cause guns sound how they actually sound. I've never understood why Hollywood paints over their firearm sound effects when they sound so much better in real life.

  • why was the guy pointing the gun at the baby??

  • @kennedyhair84 they were actually pointing them at the woman. they were telling the kidnappers they were perfectly willing to shoot the woman if necessary

  • This is a great scene. I think the "bagman" scene at the Mexican hotel was even better.

  • everything dose not go 100% by the book every fucking time ! because if that was the case police would not be shooting citizens or doin the major fuck ups you see on t.v an in your daily life !

  • Benicio Del Toro pretty much outshone everyone in this movie, imo. I think it was the fact that his character was always so cool and collected, it actually gave him a little mystique. For instance, the little gesture that he makes at 1:57 when he's about to move: to this day I don't know what it means, but I've never forgotten it. :D

  • @LazyMan9000 The gesture is a non-verbal gesture to the protectee that she is safe. He'd placed his finger out of the trigger and place his finger by the slide to signify that he is not targeting her yet, do not reveal any signs of relief. In protective custody, the "detail" will have to make decisions that appears to cruel. I wouldn't doubt that the the protectee had a canned script to follow for such kidnapping situations like this.

  • @dustyaries - I.... don't understand a word of it.

  • @LazyMan9000 I see what you mean now, when Benicio lowered his weapon, place his non-dominate hand on his vest and (it appears that he) winks at Tyrise before he peels off to his covering position. I think Benicio truly wanted to egg him on for that showdown.

  • @dustyaries there's actually a theory that every major player in this movie is gay (with notable exception of a couple characters), and Benicio winking might be a reference to this.

  • i'm going to count to three, put the guns down. *bodyguards pull hammers down*

  • At first glance it appears a very clever scene and a very clever way of getting the principle away from her protection officers. However... even the muppets who do this job know that 1 man always stays at the principles side at all times. Realistically black gentleman should have stayed at her side and dodgey eyebrows should have gone over to investigate the threat. But hey its a movie and American enough said.

  • @CoffeeFiend1 Fuck you.

  • @CoffeeFiend1 everything dose not go 100% by the book every fucking time ! because if that was the case police would not be shooting citizens or doin the major fuck ups you see on t.v an in your daily life !

  • This is the basis to bounding overwatch, aka "leap-frog". This is peeling off down a fatal funnel.

  • wish i could post this vid on mah facebook. this scene is badass.

  • I cant stand when people hold someone at gunpoint THEN either rack the slide or go to full cock. It's just... Why would you point it if it won't go bang. Carry Condition one.

  • Phillipe: You put the guns down, I'm gonna to count to three and then---

    Bodyguards: *hammer cock*

    del Toro: ....oh, fuck.

Phillipe: You're supposed to be protecting her!

    Bodyguards: *aims at knees*

    del Toro: oh, FUCK

LMAO, they didn't expect the bodyguards to actually be competent!

  • @EclipseCircle They were aiming at the baby, actually.

  • one word benicio..purrrrfecto

  • Great scene, I always enjoyed the realism to it.

  • Similiar to a frog leap.

  • Superb shotgun work in the next scene by Del Toro.

  • yeah the same thing happenede to me this one time at camp vigilate with the bpaux minutemen an i was like getting more bbq and i had to use my gun and carl was like go ahead and move and im like ok im moving then we shor=t the bad guys and i got tha bbq whi te power

  • course you did. imaginary worlds fun huh?

  • nicky katt is ssooo hot... but what the hell was that scene about? funny tho :)

  • The kidnappers want the girl. The security is hired to protect the girl. Security can't TRUST the girl isn't working with the kidnappers though. Let the kidnappers know they'll shoot the girl before letting her be taken, watch them retreat while covering the girl, it's neither a gain nor a loss but it's better than losing the girl (which they eventually did anyways).

  • Actually, that's not correct. The stunned whores have to be instructed to leave, as well. Watch the movie again if you don't believe me. But hey, nice racism there, sport.

  • "Do not, I repeat, DO NOT..." too late =))

  • In response to Rustpuke, because of my profession, I've been in life or death moments where I had to draw and fire my weapon. If it gets to that point where your discharging your weapon, "your finger better be on the trigger." Only remove it to the frame of the weapon after the threat has been neutralized or doesn't impose a further threat. This is from a professional who has survived numerous encounters. T/D is important, but when the stuff hits the fan 3/4 of a sec. can spell your death.

  • Nice backwards peels...

  • i read on wikipedia, the director's brother coreographed the gun scenes, he was a navy seal. i used to wonder y everyone's gun skills seemed so sick.

  • can't be true, otherwise they would have had some trigger discipline in the movie

  • it might not be, wikipedia is not an official whatever, but i like the way they handled the guns in this movie, better than most in my opinion, it all seemed so realistic to me. i thought this movie was oscar worthy!

  • I haven't seen the whole movie but judging from youtube clips, I agree with you. The weapons handling is definitely more realistic than in your average movie.

However this just makes the question as to why no one has proper trigger discipline even more puzzling. Keeping your finger off the trigger is one of most fundamental weapon safety points.

  • And aside from what Burntrubber said, these guys weren't exactly Navy Seals. They had a good idea of what they were doing, but it's unlikely they'd have the all the expertise McQuirrie's brother had.

  • As I already stated, it makes little sense for these guys to be doing a backwards peel, but not upholding one of the most fundamental weapon safety rules. That's what stood out for me when I saw it.

It could be that they purposely did it this way to make it more Hollywood-esque. Who knows. At the end of the day, like Burntrubber said, it's just a movie.

  • You use trigger discipline when there are no threats. if one is present than that split second moving your finger to the trigger can count. BTW, its just a movie

  • When in a life threatening situation, adrenaline is released which impairs the fine motor skills of the individual. This can lead to an unwanted discharge of the firearm (especially military weapons which are usually very soft-triggered).

It is true that you may lose a quarter of a second or so (not super significant) if your finger is not right on the trigger but it is better than accidentally firing a shot.

  • I don't think at any point throughout this entire movie was anyone interested in being safe about the handling of thier guns, and besides, I got the impression that the two leads were experienced handlers with no formal training.

  • I've seen professional military and law enforcement with shitty trigger discipline. That's how a lot of accidental discharges happen. A well trained person is still subject to laziness and carelessness.

  • Not just that, but adrenaline has some funky effects on your body. I forgot what ti was called, but there is an instinct where if you do something with one hand, the other follows. Imagine a police officer holding a suspect at gun point, hitting the radio with his left trigger finger. "Dispatch, this is *BANG* DAMMIT!"

  • The tactic used here is commonly referred to as "leap frogging". One man advances forward while one man covers him. Once the runner reaches his position he then signals the covering man to move up.

  • AKA a "peel"

  • AKA break contact

  • it's not understandable, it's retarded

  • Can't you people see there are guns here? GET. THE FUCK. OUT. GET OUT!

  • I didn't quite follow why they were aiming at her, though.

  • When a shootout in going to happen, regardless if the victim is frozen in fear and can't move.... a shot to the knee may save the life, when he shoots, she drops immediately... Like in the movie Speed, when Keanu Reeves shoots his partner to get to the hostage taker.... Not used by cops, but when shit hits the fan, a shoot to the knee takes the hostage out the "fatal funnel" in a flash allowing for a shootout. ( =

  • That's funny - I always thought they were aiming at the baby, so that the kidnappers wouldn't get anything if the shooting started.

  • i think they was. they couldnt just blatantly aim at her knees, that wouldnt help them. but if they killed the baby then the lads wouldnt have anything your right

  • you are correct, that would be impossible for anyone who hasn't actually watched the whole movie to figure out.

  • Wrong, the baby was the target in this scene.

An obscur story of negociation with the past ...

You should see this amazing movie

  • What story of negotiation?

  • Such a cool movie.

  • "normal people"?

And you think you are not homophobe ... I see.

  • Taye Diggs is so cool in this scene

  • Which one is it?

  • Show some respect kid.

  • You are not just stupid you are also homophobe?

    Great picture.

  • This is how you are taught to retreat/attack in the "buddy system". They taught it to us in basic training.

  • Someone needs to upload this entire movie.

  • In the special features of this film the technical advisor is a Navy Seal operator. Actually its the director's brother who is a Seal Team member. Hence the more realistic tactics in this movie. Its pretty cool and refreshing to see this type of weapons handling/tactics in a hollywood movie. Story wise this movie was not great but its a great movie if you are into the "realism".

  • @thrasher123 i always thought the story was pretty awesome in addition to the handling and tactics of the guns. One of my all time favorite movies.

  • @thrasher123

All the great films lack realism, but all the realistic films lack a really good story. I think that you can't have both in one movie.

  • I always thought that was a cool tactic. There's a video here That shows the SEALs doing something like this but firing as they move to trick the enemy into thinking they have more men and ammo. Great post.
