If it's about structure, then they have no right and he's proving your point by stating that they have the same background knowledge and that metal has classical influences. In fact, metal in itself was derived from classical music, rock however was derived from blues/jazz origins. this is why metal sounds sooo amazing with orchestral back up :) just sounds epic. but yeah, metal in itself is a valuable artform.
