Just to put my opinion into the discussion. I loved Vanille. She was my favourite character by far throughout the game. I take offense to those who said her voice actor was awful. The voice actor played the part perfectly and let me tell you, Vanille was no voice that just anyone could play.

Vanille pushed all her troubles aside throughout most of the game. She played a facade for the sake of those around her and even when times were tough, she did her best to raise morale.

Also, I found their Australian accents very clever, seeing how Gran Pulse was quite literally Down Under.

The funny thing is that Vanille is one of the most realistic characters in the game. She knew the darkest secrets, but she dared not speak them in order to protect her friends, carrying the burden herself. She was waiting for the perfect time to set things right, but was afraid of the consequences they would bring. She was just a girl running from, and to her problems at the same time. I don't get the hate she receives, she was realistic, unlike Snow who was oblivious to the reality of things.

@Freezintom I don't think Snow was truly oblivious: it was more that he knew deep down that if he accepted the idea that he might never be able to save the world and protect the ones he loves it would crush him, and he would be unable to move forward. That is a form of running away from reality, as you stated, but there is a reason behind it. All of the characters have their own internal struggles: they just deal with them in vastly different ways.
