Did you guys know that the Disney trains are actually maintained by Tweetsie Railroad. They actually are rebuilt up there and converted to oil burners at Disney's request. I've seen them rail Disney's #2 at Tweetsie and shunted into the shop by Tweetsie's runner for #2's annual rebuild. Later, #2 was run around the track at Tweetsie with #190 to run it in before Tweetsie opened up to visitors for the year. Cool right?
@justindw199 PLEASE!!! Do not say I'm wrong because I am one of Tweetsie's engineer's. I mainly operate #190. If you are ever at Tweetsie and want a cab ride, just ask whoever is operating the locomotive that day and they'll hook you up. Please note we don't offer cab rides in #12, just #190.
@tweetsie12190fan thats awesome, usually its some stupid miniature "steam locomotive" wich is actually a little motor inside a steam locomotive shell, thats actually a verry nice looking locomotive!!
@shininghappyperson7 Eh, they are not that bad... I operate one made by Chance... the second one ever made... the oldest operating one in the world... It's not a bad little engine, lol.
@ELMSLines yeah ive been to the one in knonobles grove , but it was like live steam size, that one is actually fairly large and a 4-6-0 thats pretty nice
most steam locomotives sometimes do this but I have never seen it from a disney steam train like that maybe the fireman put something in the firebox to make that black smoke come out of the stack
@Tonytambe - The exhaust steam from the cylinders is directed up the chimney (smokestack) through a blast pipe. The jet of exhaust steam up the stack creates a partial vacuum in the smokebox, causing hot gases from the firebox to be pushed through the fire tubes in the boiler by atmospheric pressure. This is essential for the boiler to generate enough steam for the loco to do its work. When the loco is stationary, a blower (steam jet) in the stack can be used for the same purpose.
definately not coal.

It's smoking because it's a real steam locomotive. :)
Dinosorable 4 months ago
@Dinosorable i know it's a steam locomotive but Disney world railroad steam locos almost never smoke
tweetsie12190fan 4 months ago
@tweetsie12190fan I noticed that. But they smoke a little bit.
Dinosorable 4 months ago
@tweetsie12190fan almost never because they burn a fuel oil i believe which is a bit cleaner burning than coal
atsf3780 3 months ago
@atsf3780 i asked and they said the burn fuel and the greace from the fryers from the parks in the lcocos
tweetsie12190fan 3 months ago

Why does the black smoke from a steam locomotive pulse out of the smoke stack?
Obviously the exhaust steam from the cylinders is piped into the fire box flu. My question is why?
Additional Details
So there are two reasons?
1) "the steam helps to dissipate the smoke over a much larger area."
(To keep soot off the train and it's cargo?)
2) "the steam ... pulls a partial vacuum in the smoke box which helps the fire to draw."
