  • More of these dams should be built here in Wales and the rest of the UK and Ireland but the government is too pathetic and "afraid of inflicting ecological damage". They are more worried about buttercups and wind turbines!!

  • @ROCKSOLID19 Grettings dude!! I understand your resentment. Is the typical "hypocrisy" from first world politicians, who are killing themselves trying to save the world of polution, poverty, axis of evil, terrorism, etc., etc... Nevertheless, when we are talking about "Military Budgets" and to invade other countrys, the money comes out easily and quickly. I think it´s time to take actions from the bottom of our comunities at the moment to choose the people who will take power in the name of us.

  • @ROCKSOLID19 (Continue...) If we don´t do anything now, it will be useless to complain in the future... By the way, I´m Electrical Engineer too and finishing a Master´s in Electrical Engineering (Generation & Transmission Systems). Regards from Venezuela and Happy New Year my colleague!!!

  • No habrá colapso eléctrico

  • My father worked on the construction of the dam in 1981-83 I would love it if anyone has video of what the community of Guri looks like today. I lived in Tepuy Bajo and Cherun Meru. We shopped at the Prica Market. I had a great time there as a teen!!

  • nice video.. anyone have any shots of the turbines and generators?

  • I have a question... Anybody knows why this dam is called "el guri"?

  • This dam is called "el guri" because it's located near to a little town call GURI in Bolivar State that's why my friend

  • Thanks for the answer. Any reason why that town is called like that? I wonder why because in my country we use that word to mean "kid".

  • when was the video taken? Ive heard they havent opened the Gates for almost 10 years?

  • Maybe the overflow gates hasn't been opened in a while, which I doubt, this dam works 365 days a year and it should, it represents around 70% of the electrical consumption of Venezuela.

  • Spilling like that, that much flow, can really cause scouring and damage to the dam. That happened when Hoover Dam in the US spilled a number of years ago after a very rainy season.

  • Maybe the Hoover dam designers did not think about that, Simon Bolivar (1986) dam was finished almost 50 years after the Hoover dam (1935). Engineering has advanced a lot since then and mistakes has been corrected

  • Man are they spilling. What a waste of power. Flooding?

  • Hi! Apeppink! Let me tell you something, is not a waste of power, indeed is necessary when the water level is too high. That's the principle of Hydroelectric Power Plants. And that flow also it contribuites to other Plants Downstream. Thnks for your comment

  • That's absolutely right, this is not wasting, that spill serves as intake for the Caruachi and Macagua Hydroelectric facilities downstream, and the amount of spill is calculated with a economical dispatch program. Good video!!

  • The amount of spill depends on the level of the lake, as I was telling sirtdi I do think it is a waste of energy, that flow could be runing a turbine and generating electricity and still contribute to the downstream plants. But it would mean to build a bigger dam, more expensive and maybe unnecesary

  • True, but in some way it is a waste of energy. It is a leap of potential energy that does not go through a turbine, and if that flow ran through the turbine instead of the spillway, it would still contribute to the next plant

  • nice work.....:)

  • Thanks dude!!!
