@hyposkittle07 It's not a Fender P bass, It's a Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub, now known as a 44-64. Bridge is wrong for a Fender and you can see the headstock shape isn't Fender. It's an easy mistake to make, though.
There's nothing better than listening to a song that makes you think of the person you love. Check out my song "Diane" if you're in love and never want it to end. Send it to your boyfriend, girlfriend, or even your friends. It's the first video on my youtube channel. Enjoy!
@sXe53 thats insane! theyre amazing. theyre almost perfect live, theyre good guys, they make great music, theyre all very talented, he can write deep lyrics that actually mean something, unlike all this bullshit out now that cant even be really called music, and theyre better than anything you could ever aspire to be.
Man.. i actually try to tell people about this band and how amazing they are and all i get is... "that soungs gay.." until they get curious anough to actually look them up and realize that their an eargasm... shoulda listened to me tha first time bitch D:<
im a death cab fan since transatlanticism. this song, in my opinion, is by far the most talented work from narrow stairs. but of course, i lov'em all!
Sorry to disappoint but neither Ben Gibbard or Chris Walla play G&L guitars. They are both playing Fenders. Just look at the headstocks, they are different from G&Ls(who have very distinctive headstocks). Nor are they listed as artists who play G&Ls on the guitar makers own website.
Iyt's been said before, and I have to comfirm: Ben is DEFINITLY playing a G&L bluesboy in this clip. As far as I know, he uses em all the time, both live as in the studio. Check other clips from dcfc concerts, g&l for sure.
I love it when Chris Walla uses photos when playing to get in the mood and inspiration, as you can see in 2:47, Jesus Christ, I fucking love Death Cab!
These are real bands that gives off a really nice vibe, and soo much energy, and intense moments like these when thay play together.
man! how I wish to be in a band like this! I soo want to jam out with this band really bad!!!
I've just checked a couple of the videos from this session and I'm totally amazed how well they sound live... It'd be hard to listen to both the original and this and determine the difference... the only thing I could go on is slight reverb levels
Definitely not, their new music is more mature, which many people prefer. I conversely would rather their older stuff because its youthfulness is ageless. See what i did their?
I think this band is serious team work. Ben can create amazing things but the other folks do their part really excellent. McGerr is really amazing, in every song.
Does Ben write all of the songs himself, or are he and Chris songwriting partners? If they are, they are the Lennon and McCartney of their generation.
jurrobear: Well, of course there will never be another Lennon and McCartney, I was exaggerating a bit, but I just discovered DCFC in Septmber this year and I've listened to nothing else since. That's how captivated I am by these guys. Serious talent.
Brothers on a hotel bed gave me the chills. Is that about the Berlin Wall or somethin? Or Gaza? the meaning is so deep its hard to be sure what exactly it's taling about. I'm sure it's political tho. DOES ANYONE KNOW???
That song isn't political at all. It's about feeling tied down in a conventional life and relationship. The lyrics allude to a mature guy but "these wrinkles masterfully disguise the youthful boy below". He wants to escape "the city where we still reside" so he can be adventurous by "leaving everything behind"
But this has caused their feelings for each other to become more distant and platonic than romantic: ("now we say goodnight from our own separate sides Like brothers on a hotel bed")
hmm... that makes sense. hehe lol i wish it WAS political. it wudda made a nice political song. but yea, im happy with this too. thanks for the correction. cheers ;-)
Walla does a lot of solo work that doesn't really get much credit or release. He did bring out a solo album called "Field Manual". I highly recommend it.
"The television was snowing softly as she hunted for her keys" :)
I think in this interview on SAUCE, the night before 'Narrow Stairs' was released, Ben said that he writes the songs. He however didnt say that Chris didn't help. But like, Chris wasn't mentioned as havng helped or otherwise. I think it's just Ben.

Ben has written most DCfC songs by himself. The band members did contribute to some of the songs on Narrow Stairs and are credited for it.
One that stands out, I think, is that Brothers On a Hotel Bed on the album Plans was actually written by Chris Walla.
jerryandauntie 2 years ago 2
Brothers on a hotel bed gave me the chills. Is that about the Berlin Wall or somethin? Or Gaza? the meaning is so deep its hard to be sure what exactly it's taling about. I'm sure it's political tho. DOES ANYONE KNOW???
