Danny77uk, what the fuck are you talking about? The reason why Apple's issues are such a big deals is that Apple always intimate that their products are perfect. This antenna problem demostrates it perfectly. Apple was immediately blaming the users and denying the problem. You really seem to believe all the Apple's hype as you regard Apple as the only one making solid products and every other company making mediocre shit. Seriously, get your facts straight and try to think outside the box.
Oh no, all i have to do is hold my phone in a completly unusable manner and i can't make a call, oh wait if im using both hands to grip my phone how do i dial the number???
I can replicate this on my SGS. However, in real life I never grip the phone around both of those edges so it's a non-issue (unlike iPhone4 which is a physical short circuit by touching the black band alone).
Also, the bars disappeared but the crossed circle didn't appear so it didn't lose reception. (Much like the iPhone4 doesn't appear to lose reception in videos of its death grip hold).
Apple has admitted its not perfect, no iPhone is perfect, get used to it.
Why do I have this vision of a bunch of Cupertino fanboiz making a video in an RF screen room on a little kid's blanket of the new threat to IP4. When the guy touches the Galaxy, another fanboi closes the screen room door cutting off all RF energy to the room. It's real easy to do......at the iP4 factory in China, for instance. They have a screen room, I'm sure.....(c;]
For those commenting about the use of the right hand, as someone already said, it is only for support. At 0:30 the bars go back up when only held with the right hand. More conclusive example:
I like how people are saying, "You're holding it wrong!" That wasn't a valid excuse for Steve Jobs and it isn't for you Droids either. Besides, some people do use their smart phones for more than just calling. Sometimes I use mine to browse the web. In those times, my hands are all over the place. Don't be telling me, "You're holding it wrong!"
@Danny77uk my thoughts exactly... Is every iPhone user eating everything Jobs say!? Ofc. all phones will have issues if you cover the antenna... every device that needs an antenna to get a signal will receive a lower signal if you cover up the antenna that is common knowledge. The Issue with the iPhone 4 is that this occours when you hold it normally (just conecting the two bends on the left does the trick) you don't have to death grip it (who the hell came up with that stupid term!?) :-D
@ostesvin The tech sites LOVE to find chinks to exploit in Apple's armor because they are so rare. I'm no Apple fanboy but when they announce a product, it's usually ready to be sold unlike almost every other tech company that relies on selling promises that are often broken. If this had been an LG or Motorola or Nokia phone, no-one would give a shit simple because we're used to their products being mediocre.
but with a thing like a problem with the antenna design, it is a big deal when Apple in their defence says "you're holding it wrong!" or starts pointing fingers at everybody and their grandma, saying that they too have reception problems if you just "deathgrip" them.
They should have taken the "blame" and said it's not that big a problem... we can solve it with a" bumper" or a case! I even saw some really cool imprinted leather strips which goes all the way around the phone.
"Now let's see you hold it up to your ear with that two handed grip!"
My god you're an idiot. I also don't hold the iphone with the full hand death grip that requires it to lose reception. Go play with your droid. The one no one gives a damn about.
@gs3369 "also don't hold the iphone with the full hand death grip that requires it to lose reception."
You mean holding it like a normal phone? Blocking phone antennas and bridging the i4 antennas are two separate issues. All that's required to bridge the i4 antenna is bad luck with genetics and touch of the G-spot. Other phones don't suffer this. For the unlucky people affected a case is required for normal operation, so it's good to see that they've compromised in this regard.
@Funnergoat Just stop for a bit. I use an iPhone 4 and it's been fine. I don't use it any differently than any other phone I've used and this has not been an issue. In fact, no one really complains about this stuff that much, even though we've seen vids of many phones doing this, like the Nexus 1 back in January... The difference is the iPhone sells a LOT compared to other phones, so it's getting more scrutinized and noticed for this.
Now let's see you hold it up to your ear with that two handed grip!
ALL phones lose reception when the antenna is blocked. The problem is that i4 not only has this issue (which is pretty much cancelled out by the antenna being external, therefore having stronger reception in the first place), but certain peoples chemistries bridging the antenna together when it's G-spot is touched, causing them to short, which the others don't suffer from. That's an Apple exclusive design flaw.
@sinpodo, why don't you hold it that way a little longer and you will see that your signal will go to 5 bars again. that's because the Galaxy S will switch to using full power for the Antenna. i tested it here on my Galaxy S.
Apple haters around the world have to be just kicking themselves right now for jumping on antennagate. Maybe next time people will think a little first. As for consumer reports... maybe they should reconsider all the other phones on their recommend list. Then again who listens to CR anyway...
@mnhockey69 You just answered your own Q. No one cares about CR, but Apple Haters are desperate for any dirt they can find... they're looking at the next 5-10 years of the CE market being dominated by iOS and Apple.. they're freaked
@DeejayBackfire Yes, it's always bullshit when it's the other guy. It didn't matter how many iPhone 4 users claimed not to have any problems with their reception, because YouTube videos proved they did even if they didn't know it. Welcome to the club. You have a problem with your Galaxy S, even if you didn't know it and it works fine for you. Samsung needs to recall them ASAP.
@telin0224 it doesn't have the antenna at the top right... all phones now have their antennas at the bottom... and not all iphone 4s have reception issues...
@misn100 Why in the world would it be a good idea to have the antenna at the bottom of ANY PHONE? Like... Its not like we hold the phone upside down, right?
Does anyone know why some phone makers seems to do it like this? :P
@DrawinLinesInTheSand The reason is because of government rules that regular how much radiation that goes into your brain. Radiation energy decreases by the inverse square, 1/d^2. That means if you double the distance, you 1/4 the enegy. If you x4 the distance, it's 1/16 the energy. The antenna is on the bottom because that's the furthest from our brain.
@telin0224 You need to rewatch the video. He is clearly ONLY touching the bottom left corner to cause the issue. He repeatedly rotates the phone to show the viewers this. The right hand holding the phone at the top is obviously just for that reason...to hold the phone.
