  • i want to go back to wood heat. If it is clean as that; then it's better for the enviroment than unearthen gas and coal fuels. i miss my woodstove in my old house. I also miss going into the bush and getting firewood. I was doing the forest a favor by cleaning it up. Now i have gas heat with a 98.9% effecient furnace. The heat is not the same.

  • Thanks Ken! Burned a cat stove for 23 yrs. so this is a new adventure and learning curve.. It's odd that smaller splits would burn longer just the opposite of my old stove.. I have well seasoned wood so the fuel will not be a factor.. Much of it is oak along with ash, cherry and a host of other woods..

  • We just ibstalled a T-5 and tried a small fire and it looks awesome.. How long of a burn can you get with your stove?

  • @raybonz7939 - we typically get about 8 hours of good heat out of a full load of decent wood. I find it works better if the pieces of wood are smaller in size and there are more of them. We tried some larger unsplit pieces, but they did not burn nearly as well. Good luck with your new stove! Ken.

  • Ken

Drop me an email it's Johnny in NY - we bought the Summit model to fit into the fire place! May get the Super 27 for our Kitchen. Thanks !!!!!

  • I just bought a Super 27 as well and I'm also enjoying it. What are your typical stove top temps and where do you typically set the air control lever?

  • @jcoa332 - not sure what the actual surface temps are, but the flue pipe is usually around 200C (400F) when it's at the proper burn. The themometer is the probe type and is located about 40cm (18") above the stove. I know that it boils the kettle and evaporates the water in the two other pots we keep on top - humidifiers! The control lever seems to run down past the "low" setting about 2cm or so, and after the burn is established, we move it to that location - far to the right - seems to work!

  • Great looking fire, and stove. Is the pipe a double wall pipe, and does it have the vents in it. Where did you have the draft setting at. Is the stove the small, med., or large firebox. I have the PE as well in the med sized box it's the cast iron model, but it uses the same firebox.

    Thanks for any info

  • @brettblack1 - This is the "medium" model and the pipe is double-wall 6", but I don't think that it's vented in any way. We looked at the cast iron one, but decided on this one instead. So far, this is an excellent unit - thanks for the comments! Ken.

  • i like that , no smoke .whats this thing cost .stove .did you install it your self ?.

  • @crazyjoe1148 - It's a great stove for sure. It's not cheap. I don't know what the range of price is, but this one I had installed by a WETT certified company. All-in the stove and chimney including tax (tax on alternative fuel appliances - only in Ontario...?) was $4300. But, I spent $1500 on electric heat for a season, so this will pay for itself fairly quickly, even buying wood - I figure in about 6 years. Hope that helps! Ken.
