I think that Matt Smith is too good at being dark. It made the show less fun to watch and more of a sad saga. ( wich i know that is what the underlying theme of doctor who is ) but i just found that David never scared me the way that Matt smith does. if Matt came before David or even before Chris it wouldve been perfect but i just think the mentality is jumping around a bit much. David seemed more sad where Matt seems angry. its not that i dont like it, its just unnerving.

Tom Baker, David Tennant, and Matt Smith are my favorite Doctors. Each one of them had their own ideas of what the Doctor should be like, and each one is absolutely astounding. Personally, I think Matt has done, and will do, an astounding job. The Doctor is a hard character to play. You have a mix of child-like innocence with a boiling pit of anger, sadness, and guilt. Then top it off with a hilarious bit of oblivion and VOILA! The Doctor! You go, Matt. You are doing great.

@Meganifical I don't think you're giving David Tennant fans enough credit. Surely there will be some who won't accept Matt as the new Doctor. But as I count myself as a huge David Tennant fan (I'm an American who went to see him in Hamlet in Stratford in 2008, though I made a whole trip out of it instead of just for that), I adore Matt as the Doctor. David will always be "my" Doctor cause he was my first, but Matt's Doctor is just as good.

The Doctor being a 900 year old alien doesn't have girlfriends. The closest he came was Rose back in the first 2 series. He fell in love with her but I dont think they would have had sex or anything. Before David Tennant he was seen as more of a asexual guy, he must have finally given in being surrounded by all those pretty women lol. Although come to think of it he did meet someone who claimed to be his wife in the future, shes back next series so he might have a serious girlfriend then.
From what i have seen in the trailer i dont like it, as a previous comment said it is purly for money to get a new younger audience. He doesnt look the part and doesnt feel that he fits the part!
I liked some of the rough attitude Colin Baker had, but the outfit was awful and I hated the smug full of himself aspect of the doctor. The 10th was a bit conceited at times too, but it wasn't so annoying and overt.

@Ibringthetruth1 The point of Matt's Doctor is that he's AN OLD MAN IN A YOUNG MAN'S BODY, externally he may seem young, but internally he plays it with such age and wisdom that he probably has the oldest personality out all three of the newer Doctor's, Davison was only two years older than Matt when he took the part, what difference is two years in grand scheme of things, plus to assume anyone is 'too young' to play the part is dumb anyway, because A) it's been established that he can change..

However, you can't argue with the viewing figures (the End of Time pulled in over ten million viewers). There must be a reason for that, don't you think?
How is it selling out to teen girls? First of all he 28 when he filmed, which isn' t that young. Second the guy who chose Matt smith is a hardcore Doctor who fan who chose Matt smith because he was right for the part, not because of his age. Third a 90 year old actor would still be too young to play a 900 year old. Who is to say that he cant change into a young body, regeneration is random after all. I wish people would give the man a chance, at the end of the day, we know that Steven Moffat is extremely capable and therefore, when Matt auditioned there must have been something special about him for the team to employ him. i don't deny that after David Tennant, the new doctor will have a lot to live up to, but i think most people who have seen matt in any of his previous roles will agree that he is probably one of the best people they could have chosen. I remember seing him in "the ruby and the smoke" a few years back and being impressed with his acting then.
But the great thing about the doctor is that anyone can play him, his personality changes with every single reincarnation and so long as you get thouse quirks just right and pass off the lines convincingly a 16 year old could play a Doctor.

Sorry I'm not that much of a fan. I just watch it when I can which is unfortunatly not a lot. It would be pretty cool if my theory was right though. Has the Doctor ever had a really serious girlfriend? Because that would be really interesting to watch, but just any sort of girl one that was just as clever and fuuny as he is. That would be cool!!!

The Doctor being a 900 year old alien doesn't have girlfriends. The closest he came was Rose back in the first 2 series. He fell in love with her but I dont think they would have had sex or anything. Before David Tennant he was seen as more of a asexual guy, he must have finally given in being surrounded by all those pretty women lol. Although come to think of it he did meet someone who claimed to be his wife in the future, shes back next series so he might have a serious girlfriend then.

I liked some of the rough attitude Colin Baker had, but the outfit was awful and I hated the smug full of himself aspect of the doctor. The 10th was a bit conceited at times too, but it wasn't so annoying and overt.

@Ibringthetruth1 The point of Matt's Doctor is that he's AN OLD MAN IN A YOUNG MAN'S BODY, externally he may seem young, but internally he plays it with such age and wisdom that he probably has the oldest personality out all three of the newer Doctor's, Davison was only two years older than Matt when he took the part, what difference is two years in grand scheme of things, plus to assume anyone is 'too young' to play the part is dumb anyway, because A) it's been established that he can change..

@Timelord6661 David Tennant was a brilliant Doctor, as most of my fellow fans would agree. Of course, it can be argued that his first series (Revival Series 2) was a mixed one at the start as he was just getting into the role, but by the end of it, it was hard to see him go.

@Ibringthetruth1 I'm sorry, but I think you'll find that David was voted the best Doctor that there has ever been by DW Mag, a magazine which is bought by, mostly, the older fans of Who. Therefore, even viewers from way back when were impressed with his portrayal of the character. Tennant WAS Doctor material, he just wasn't in YOUR opinion. However, you can't argue with the viewing figures (the End of Time pulled in over ten million viewers). There must be a reason for that, don't you think?

I wish people would give the man a chance, at the end of the day, we know that Steven Moffat is extremely capable and therefore, when Matt auditioned there must have been something special about him for the team to employ him. I have complete faith in both Steven and Matt and I honestly believe that all the seceptical DW fans will be eating their words by April. Remember, David wasn't well-know when he was hired and yet, he became the best Doctor the show has ever known. Have a little faith!

Yeah, it's kind of a silly question, isn't it? Because if you think about it, 35 or even 70 really is no bit closer than 26 for a person who's 903. They're ALL kids!
Plus, i don't think people walk around thinking "oh, I'm this and this old. That means i much act like this." It's probably more like "Ok, so i know I'm supposed to be too old for this, but..." People don't age, they just grow older.
