I 've been playing guitar for 1 year and a half and in the beginning I almost gave up of playing guitar 'cause I thought I'd never be able to play guitar like a famous guitarrist, and when I discovered that Tony Iommi doesn't have a part of two fingers, I started to play guitar again and today I'm a very good guitarrist.
In other words, never give up, if they can, you can guys.
Serious toughness! Fingertips taped up and darkened, Iommi is by no means too famous or important to still give a little interview/guitar lesson. What a champ

If Tony can entertain us as well as he has done over all these years with the ends of his fingers missing then he will survive this cancer. Iommi FTW!!
Considering he's one of the most influential and best loved guitarists of all time, he still seems like a humble down to earth guy. A lot of these modern "celebrities" could learn a thing or two from this great man.
He has every right to have a huge fucking ego but he doesn't, yet you get people nowadays famous for being on a reality show that think they are Gods!
@BeepBoopBoo When he was 17 he had an accident that cut him the tip of his two fingers. Iommi decided not to learn to play guitar right-handed so he replaced the missing tip with some prothesis he made. And he always played that way!
Love Tony as a rythm guitarist but never liked him as a lead guitarist. Still respect him as a lead player considering how little feeling he must have in his fretting hand.
I still believe the heaviest sound he ever put to record was the into to Iron Man on Live Evil - his guitar covered all the frequencies - so much so that a bass was hardly needed - but it was heavy as hell when Geezer kicked in.
@Luggichani Pretty well known at this point, last day of work at a metal factory he got into an accident and lost the tips of his middle and ring fingers on his right hand. He downtuned his guitar to make on his fingers and pretty much had a huge hand in the "heavy metal" sound. Sabbath's overall sound would of likely been pretty different and what happened after that much so.
When you hear him playing the opening riff you still get that vibe of impending doom. You cant learn that in school kids. Its projecting personality through your instrument. I know he is not exactly a peer, but Eddie Van Halen heaps praise on Iommi . Music is not about knowing a million scales and playing a million miles an hour, its about CREATIVITY and ORIGINALITY and MELODY. 1000 years from now people will still revere Sabbath.
@cobias Dude, I remember the first time I listened to the album. I was 16 years old and it the 2nd time I ever smoked pot. My friend popped the CD into this giant stereo he had, and War Pigs came on and it just went BOOM!!! It was so magical. Not because I were stoned but, I had never heard anything like that in my life. You are right. 1000 years from now, people will revere Sabbath. How could they not? They were one-of-a-kind.
@MelinusMargos You don't know the story of Tony do you? He lost the tips of his ring and middle fingers to an industrial accident in a metal fabrication factory as a young fellow. He developed those finger tip prosthesis to help him play the guitar. You got any more wise cracking remarks? I didn't think so.
@jogmas12 are there cock looking fingers? :) dude, I was just joking, I respect this man so much, he's one of my favourite guitarist, I'm not despising him.
so this guy is ranked the best metal guitarist of all time... most influential in terms of modern heavy metal music... and hes not even got all of his finger tips on his right hand..
Hi Tony: Start a song with jamming is also a way to work constructively. Like you can start bending the strings before getting upset about the echo unit!
I'm a big fan of Ted Nugent, but watching this I'm reminded how far humility and gentleness go in relating to people. Tony Iommi, a man with testicles the size of dinner plates--the riff-master supreme, simply shows how his composition is played. No ego. No craziness--this man is a true giant in the genre, blossoming the sound open into jazz space, metal space, really important to all of us. Thank you, Mr. Iommi, for what you've given us.
@kc7fys I agree. Out of all the guitarist of the 70s, I think his guitar sound had the biggest impression on my playing. And there are a ton to choose from.
All dropped out of high school...however, what I most admire is that Tony Iommy despite his tips of his fingers being cut off can play the guitar...I mean hello ? Nowadays which dude could do that playing with cut off finger tips...
@OhldSchool I Know what you mean Every time I hear s song with good guitar playing Im like "wow, who is that?", but when Iommi plays I know by his awesome amazing sound.
@tnikoli40 he cut the ends off those fingers in an industrial accident before Sabbath took off. Apparently made the original false tips himself out of bits of washing up bottle and super glue,
All the greatest guitarist's are left handed, i'm left handed too! all those years of bullying will pay off when i can shred and become a billionaire rockstar!!
@MrJdelz JESUS WTF i didn't know that.. but one thing i cannot see is: how are the strings on his guitar? are those on the normal position that you and me play, or is it inverted?
@lowisao haha, it's too obvious in the video man, 100% sure, it's normal position, you can see he playing some power chords, and the sound of the strings are normal position
Lol, he keeps re-adjusting his prosthetic finger tip on his leg! He is such a badass guitar player and true legend of his time! Anybody who would lose two fingers in an accident wouldn't be able to play guitar...not Tony Iommi!!

Tony Iomi is the type of bloke you could meet at a pub or have fish and chips with. A mullet frizzed easy going bloke.
