  • What settings should I use to get a good vintage fuzz face sound from this pedal?

  • while i somewhat agree that this pedal ain't too great for guitar, it kills on bass :D

  • Don't believe the hype

  • @dacrowster what do you mean? this is a great pedal

  • how did i get here from zit popping?

  • @iamsdeathgod, haha, that's where I usually end up

  • awful pedal

  • hated this pedal....

  • Video title was misleading.

  • im guessin i can get some sought of kyuss tone outta this?

  • @RnFnR93 Hellz yeah! Kyuss!

  • whats the main difference between this and the death by audio fuzz war? Can anybody help?

  • @badguitardude24 I have the fuzz war but not the pickle. Fuzz war isnt at scooped and has a ton of bass. ITs got two internal trim pots for adjustment and two face knobs. Level and tone. Its not as versatile tonewise though. Its not as trebly sounding either. Its super aggresive and powerful! I like it. Also check out the wampler leviathan and the black arts lstr for some crazy fuzz, I might be getting those too haha :)

  • @broadcast666this Thanks for the help! I think im going to go for the pickle because my amps already pretty high gain ( its a peavey 3120) and i wanted a fuzz pedal more versatile.

  • what's everyone's favorite setting for the swollen pickle?

  • I'll try and get that thing on Black Friday

  • Could this pedal work on a bass guitar? i play Through a 200 watt bass head and 200 watt marshal 4x12's cabinet. Please Reply!

  • @LedZeppjack check out the wren and cuff pickle pie hella fuzz b. its based on the swollen pickle circuit, but made for bass. fuckin killer fuzz.

  • dont know.. just cant get this baby to sing like it should... to much bass and too muddy

  • Cooooool!

  • For somebody who plays music like Black sabbath, nirvana, smashing pumpkins, white stripes, bands like that, should i get this pedal or a big muff?

  • @TheJaded1039 well, Im pretty sure they actually used the big muff, so you cant get more accurate. I chose the pickle because it can do muff well and a lot more, but if you want muff specifically then get muff

  • @TheJaded1039 Listen to a band called Local H. That's the only band I can think of that uses this pedal. It's a really good sound, but for those particular bands (and in my humble opinion) the Big Muff is what you want.

  • the pain your thumb must be in from pushing on all these stompboxes. i'd be more than happy to step on them and simply watch your demos being recorded. please give me this job. i'll send a cv tomorrow via email. good day.

  • do the fu!

  • 2:30 i am iron... never mind

  • @jdschut i thought the same thing

  • AWESOME Fuzz

  • This video made my pickle swollen...

  • @GrapeDrankStudios that's disgusting.

  • Does Peter Steele from Type O Negative use this? Please answer back.

  • @RidirichdFlann Not anymore, since he is real damn dead.

  • Interesting pedel!!

  • Does Peter Steele from Type O Negative use this? Sounds like it

  • Anyone successfully got a sound very similar to "Cherub Rock and/or "Spirit Of Radio" by Catherine Wheel? If so what were your settings?I know the bands used other pedals besides fuzz.Like Chorus,Delay, compression, octaves, and overdrive. And they probably have custom made boxes.

  • PARANOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ProGSDemos. What are your internal tone settings?I was initially disappointed before i opened it up and adjusted the tone controls.

  • Man, I don't think there is any fuzz out there that can top the Analogman Sunface NKT-275.

  • Bad ass! I want like three different pedals after watching these videos. Bastards. hahaah!

  • Hey guys im looking to buy a fuzz and i dont want to shell out all my money. Ive narrowed down my choices to this pedal, and the MXR M173 108 Fuzz. Could anybody help me out?

  • @stratkiller51

If you're looking for a EHX Big Muff sound, the jumbo fuzz is good. If you're going to use a Wah-Wah, then a MXR Fuzz is good. I'd go with this with the Jumbo Fuzz but its all up to you.

  • This or the MXR M173 108? Could anyone help me out?

  • Debating this or the MXR M173 108 Fuzz. Can anyone help me out? Thanks

  • i don't why this pedal gets so many comparisons to the Bug Muff. swollen pickle sounds way better and is way more versatile. actually i think the big muff is one of the worse sounding fuzz boxes out there. but my opinion doesn't mean shit.

  • PARANOID!!!!

  • wow im seriously impressed by the tones you can get from this pedal!

  • This doesn't have anywhere near the gain of a Big Muff; I have both.

  • @gwugluud it' basically a BM with lower gain transistors in a transitor array chip.

  • What should I set up the Crunch and Midrange to make this sound like a Tonebender Mkii and mkiii. also the Filter settings would help too

  • whats the best setting for a tone with a lot of attack?

  • Can I make this sound like a Tonebender MKIII

  • I'd say the Supersonic Fuzz Gun is the best fuzz out there for a House of Heroes sound, but this could be a non-$270 alternative :)

  • i want the sleepy silver door by dead meadow tone. what fuzz should i get?

  • @ElSenorPoopyPants Big Muff Pi

  • Great Work

  • I really dig this pedal, especially for the price, I've compared against Big Muffs and some clones of famous fuzz pedals...give this pedal some time, especially if you are new to using fuzz

  • I just bought this pedal tonight, and I still don't sound anything like Andy!

  • Nice to hear some Stooges love. Great demo!

  • I have a Russian Muff and I want another fuzz pedal that can get a little more nasty and broken-up sounding. Something really gnarly and distorted!

Would this be a good choice? I've heard that it's like a Muff, but from this demo it sounds much different than my Russian. Or should I check out a Fuzz Face?

    Thanks, and great demo!

Oh wait, watched it again...it can pull off the Fuzz Face sound! Well that's it, I'm getting one!

  • why do all the way huge effects have names that sound like really bad pornos...

    fat sandwich, swollen pickle......

  • @dudejoe64 huge pork loin, aqua puss....

  • @dudejoe64 aqua puss, red llama, angry troll, ringworm......

  • @dudejoe64 Don't forget the Angry Troll. We all know how hairy horny women can become angry trolls...

  • @dudejoe64 way huge aqua puss, pork loin...

  • @dudejoe64 i'm going to cinema to see angry troll meets aqua puss.

  • when's someone gonna play touch me i'm sick on a demo of this thing. If they did, I'd be sold

  • @chcknhntngottaloveit hell yes!!!

  • this guy is terrible at testing pedals. give me his job.

  • @churchmouth00 your an idiot. this guy know every cover on earth and does it extrordinarily fingerstyle and he sucks?. WTTFFFF

  • @churchmouth00 no you're wrong

  • @churchmouth00 i don't know what the hell your hearin, but i guarantee andy can play circles around your ass.

  • come get it snooki

  • it sounds 500x better on the PGS website

  • @popomczowzow

Really? Hard to tell any difference on my computer. Must be the speakers.

  • To be honest i love mine to bits!!

sort of like a hi-fi muff with loads of tweakability....it nails billy corgan tones from siamese dream.: )

  • Hi! Can you use the swollen pickle with bass guitar, too?

  • @livingbackwards000 yeah I've got one and I love it. love playing with my swollen pickle.

  • do queens of the stone age use this? whats the difference between a boss fz-5, big muff pi usa and this swollen pickle? in terms of sound.. not if its made out of metal n whatnot shit

  • @punkiassjunki We can't tell you the exact tonal differences, hence the demos. However, the Boss is a digital emulation of a few classic fuzz pedals that have more midrange and overdrive characteristics. The Swollen Pickle takes the scooped, thick sustaining tones of the Big Muff and adds more tone control. Hope that helps,

    PGS

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos yeah, my pickle sounds way less versatile and useable and i copied the settings from this video and it still sounds really open. im using a Gibson Explorer and an Egnater Rebel 30W Combo

  • @princeken77 I'd blame it on the egnater man. I run myn into an Orange Tiny Terror and a Fender Bassman and get excellent sounds

  • @punkiassjunki in which song does the guitar sound like that?

  • @punkiassjunki QOTSA uses a lot of expensive vintage pedals and clones. Homme used a Zvex Super Hardon during Songs for the Deaf. He uses a Univox Superfuzz (lots of clones of that) or some other octave fuzz like a Foxx Tone Machine for solos. They also use D*A*M stompboxes which are mostly vintage clones.

  • 3:17 SOUNDS close to a ram's head big muff :)

  • I bought this pedal a week ago, and it's fucking killer!!!! :D

  • can this thing get mid 70's big muff type tones? i dont care for ehx's reissues.

  • I think the fuzz god would be a better choice.

  • I use the pork loin pedal with my bass. sounds better for my bass tbh. amazing pedal

  • I didn't like it at first... But at 2:45 it sounds pretty sweetsauce.

  • This pedal is extremely versatile. It can do overdrive and fuzz to the point of almost a distortion clip... especially in front of the hot channel on an amp. But it can really be smooth, and help to push a tube amp to get a smooth clip. More tweaks than you can shake a stick at.... and they're useful tweaks.

Santana, Hendrix, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Smashing Pumpkins, Gap band... This video does no justice to how much this pedal makes your tube amp cream itself.

  • whoever controls this youtube account is a smart ass, i love it. haha

  • would this pedal be good for that old Pumpkins sound? im thinking about getting one

  • @stpisbackforgood Yes this rocks at Smashing Pumpkin Big muff tones.... Mayonnaise is the best example of what I use this pedal to do..... however it's much more versatile than a regular Big-Muff. It can fuzz, it can overdrive, it can cut highs like nobody's business, it can scoop mids, it accentuates overtones.... this pedal is highly versatile: a nipple tweaker's dream.

  • can i use this for my bass?

  • I wanna get this pedal just so I can say "Yeah,on my pedalboard here,I got my Swollen Pickle running into a Big Muff"

  • I don't like this pedal either.

  • I have one of these and its crap!...I put it up against my friends Bass Big Muff and it eats the Swollen Pickle!..the muff has heaps more depth and warmth

  • She says she like my_________ (insert name of pedal).

  • RATM anyone???

  • could you get some hendrixy type tones? and how does jimi get his cleans?

  • @Teutonic1250

Yeah, if you tweak it. Jimi usually just rolled back his volume knob on the guitar. Works very well with fuzzes.

  • could you get some hendrixy type tones? and how does jimi get his cleans?

  • what's the best current fuzz to cop the old Univox Super Fuzz tone?

  • i am so buying this pedal

  • cool! I like how ProGuitarShop puts people in their place!

  • Search and Destroy for that cool fuzzbox!

  • Makes that '65 Soho sound like a Sunn. Awesome.

  • Can this pedal get a good "ratted out" speaker sound? Something like "You Really Got Me" Kinks like sound?

  • dave davis slashed the speaker cone on his amp with a razor fo that sound.

  • @Blagga0muffin - Dave Davies, you mean.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos tomayto tomahto.

  • @Blagga0muffin errr, not really mate.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos - wasn't that a Link Wray story?

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos man you guys always seem to patronize people's comments I mean he probably knew it was Dave Davies and was just typing a bit fast.

  • @groovey65 yes your right ,sarcastic bastards, would like to kick him in the balls and give him swollen pickles....

  • @Blagga0muffin ROFL @ Dave Davis.

  • guitar-cord-marshall

  • killler j mascis dinosaur tones

  • 0:18 "I'm a street fightin' cheetah with a heart full of napalm..."

  • I think you mean "street walkin' cheetah"...

  • Close enough...

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos like me you are a musical dictionary ..how old are you man ...im 40 -kudos on knowing every cool (and not-so cool cover there is to know )

  • @RockaRollaZombie Good try, though

  • Picking one up soon, this video sold me.

  • This pedal is great on bass too.

  • 3.18 - Dopesmoker tone! :D

  • @DesolationRow0 Sounds more like a Fu Manchu tone to me. 3:31 definetly sounds just like the old Fu!

  • I agree.

  • you should try an fz-2 if you want EW tone

  • I received my swollen pickle today, it has some serious balls. I put a BB Pre Amp in front of it into my Peavey Valve King 100 wt head....killer!

  • imma really thinking about getting this pedal, but it doesn't look like it can take a lot of stomping. I mean, you can kick on your Boss pedals all you want, they won't break. How about this one?

  • Depends, this pedal is built very tough. It's made of thicker metal than the boss pedals, but it is aluminum which is softer.

But you really have to ask yourself: are you going to throw your pedal against a brick wall every 2 days or just keep it on your pedalboard and move it around every once in a while?

People fall for the "road-built" marketing trick time and again, it's just bullshit. Almost all pedals are tough enough, even Behringer plastic shit won't break (the hardware at least).

  • @m0joGriffin i have behringer plastic...not a single scratch:)

  • @m0joGriffin Example: I had a Sovtek Big Muff that broke within months of buying it. Been using a bunch of those $20.00 Danelectro mod pedals for about 6 years. All of them work fine still.

  • Love the Stooges at the beginning, very appropriate.

  • can u get a good page tone?

  • Thanks to those who answered my question

  • lets all go ..... PARANOID!!!

  • thanks for the advice cortez

  • This or Big Muff Pi... Hmm... With this bad boy you can channel the softest and heaviest fuzz.... But the reputation of the Big Muff... I just can't decide. Perhaps some words of widom from you tone freaks out there?

  • Actually I would get the Big Muff PI with Tone Wicker over the Big Muff PI. The swollen pickle is capable of more sounds than a Big Muff PI. They both sound great to me its just what you want the effect to do for your sound that is the deciding factor.

  • @brooklynstudio

I have owned big muff's, and russian big muff's, and i love them- but, and a big but, when it comes to dropping a pedal on your pedal board, the big muff just doesn't cut it. The way huge pedals have just way more "flexibility" and they work well with other pedals. All I can say is, spend the money adn see how they interact with other pedals. If all you want to use is the fuzz pedal in your chain or record, the big muff's are good enough, otherwise, go way huge.

  • i have had my big muff for 2 years and i use it daily...but compared to this it seems muddy. also, the swollen pickle has allot more flexibility than the muff, and it also sounds Wayyyy better (in my opinion).

  • IGGY !!!

  • really jumbo

  • Played one of these with an American Std. Strat and a vox night train through an Egnater 2x12. Holy hell!!!! I have to have one. This is gonna knock two hipster boutique fuzzes off my board. Woah.

  • got this pedal today for $100.. and i LOVE it!!!!.. i got it runnin threw a solid state crate head. 4x12 marshall cab and a fender powered 15 with an ibanez s540

    70-13's MASSIVE HEAVY SOUND!!!

  • all you need now is a tube amp.

  • "I wanna know what fuzz is, and I want the Way Huge Swollen Pickle Fuzz to show me."

    heh heh nice Andy!

  • This is #1 on my Christmas list...

  • is it true bypass?

  • @faopus14

    yes it is

  • how does this compare to the flying tomato.

  • just get a fuzzface,

  • get a real fuzzface, not the crappy ones dunlop is turning out now a days. And the analogman sunface is pretty close. Or an Oxfuzz, those are pretty cool.

  • If you want good fuzz get the analog man sunface now that's a fuzz pedal

  • No, if you want a GREAT fuzz, get a D*A*M Fuzz Sound MK III.

  • NOBODY should buy a FUZZ pedal w/o at least searching for MJM London Fuzz on here and listening to it...

    Im thinking of getting one.

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE my London Fuzz II. Def recommend it to anyone interested in fuzz. It doesn't sound anything like the Swollen P tho.

  • hell yeah black sabbath paranoid

  • This is way huge

  • the comments on this board are from assholes? this is wayyyyyyyyy better than a MUFF.......the MUFF stinks esp the russian model......this pedal is more versatile, dynamic and just sounds cooler, The USA big MUFF's aren't much better than that cheap russian shit. get a grip man? whys it made it russia? its CHEAP! and it sucks........get one of these link it up to a Voodoo amp.

  • lol..the muff stinks....

try getting her to wear 100% cotton underwear and bathing regularly

  • Countless others would disagree

  • wow, sounds awesome! I f I ever change my 2 Big Muff, ToneWicker and Bass, I would go with this one. For the price you have all the the Fuzz pedal in one. nice review, thanks.

  • I love this pedal just got it yesterday when the tone is all the way to the right its almost an overdrive and then all the way to the left is supreme bassy fuzz

  • "Search and Destroy" by Iggy Pop in the beginning :)

  • not 3 bad.

  • Funny, everytime I need to see a demo of something you guys usually have it! lol

  • is this a good pedal for getting a sound similiar to queens of the stone age?

  • just get a normal big muff, much cheaper, and they are darker and more Homme like.

  • nah for Queens i prefer the russian one. its cheaper too ;)
