@badguitardude24 I have the fuzz war but not the pickle. Fuzz war isnt at scooped and has a ton of bass. ITs got two internal trim pots for adjustment and two face knobs. Level and tone. Its not as versatile tonewise though. Its not as trebly sounding either. Its super aggresive and powerful! I like it. Also check out the wampler leviathan and the black arts lstr for some crazy fuzz, I might be getting those too haha :)
@broadcast666this Thanks for the help! I think im going to go for the pickle because my amps already pretty high gain ( its a peavey 3120) and i wanted a fuzz pedal more versatile.
@TheJaded1039 well, Im pretty sure they actually used the big muff, so you cant get more accurate. I chose the pickle because it can do muff well and a lot more, but if you want muff specifically then get muff
@TheJaded1039 Listen to a band called Local H. That's the only band I can think of that uses this pedal. It's a really good sound, but for those particular bands (and in my humble opinion) the Big Muff is what you want.
the pain your thumb must be in from pushing on all these stompboxes. i'd be more than happy to step on them and simply watch your demos being recorded. please give me this job. i'll send a cv tomorrow via email. good day.
Anyone successfully got a sound very similar to "Cherub Rock and/or "Spirit Of Radio" by Catherine Wheel? If so what were your settings?I know the bands used other pedals besides fuzz.Like Chorus,Delay, compression, octaves, and overdrive. And they probably have custom made boxes.
Hey guys im looking to buy a fuzz and i dont want to shell out all my money. Ive narrowed down my choices to this pedal, and the MXR M173 108 Fuzz. Could anybody help me out?
If you're looking for a EHX Big Muff sound, the jumbo fuzz is good. If you're going to use a Wah-Wah, then a MXR Fuzz is good. I'd go with this with the Jumbo Fuzz but its all up to you.
i don't why this pedal gets so many comparisons to the Bug Muff. swollen pickle sounds way better and is way more versatile. actually i think the big muff is one of the worse sounding fuzz boxes out there. but my opinion doesn't mean shit.
I really dig this pedal, especially for the price, I've compared against Big Muffs and some clones of famous fuzz pedals...give this pedal some time, especially if you are new to using fuzz
I have a Russian Muff and I want another fuzz pedal that can get a little more nasty and broken-up sounding. Something really gnarly and distorted!
Would this be a good choice? I've heard that it's like a Muff, but from this demo it sounds much different than my Russian. Or should I check out a Fuzz Face?
Thanks, and great demo!
Oh wait, watched it again...it can pull off the Fuzz Face sound! Well that's it, I'm getting one!
do queens of the stone age use this? whats the difference between a boss fz-5, big muff pi usa and this swollen pickle? in terms of sound.. not if its made out of metal n whatnot shit
@punkiassjunki We can't tell you the exact tonal differences, hence the demos. However, the Boss is a digital emulation of a few classic fuzz pedals that have more midrange and overdrive characteristics. The Swollen Pickle takes the scooped, thick sustaining tones of the Big Muff and adds more tone control. Hope that helps,
@ProGuitarShopDemos yeah, my pickle sounds way less versatile and useable and i copied the settings from this video and it still sounds really open. im using a Gibson Explorer and an Egnater Rebel 30W Combo
@punkiassjunki QOTSA uses a lot of expensive vintage pedals and clones. Homme used a Zvex Super Hardon during Songs for the Deaf. He uses a Univox Superfuzz (lots of clones of that) or some other octave fuzz like a Foxx Tone Machine for solos. They also use D*A*M stompboxes which are mostly vintage clones.
This pedal is extremely versatile. It can do overdrive and fuzz to the point of almost a distortion clip... especially in front of the hot channel on an amp. Santana, Hendrix, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Smashing Pumpkins, Gap band... This video does no justice to how much this pedal makes your tube amp cream itself.
@stpisbackforgood Yes this rocks at Smashing Pumpkin Big muff tones.... Mayonnaise is the best example of what I use this pedal to do..... however it's much more versatile than a regular Big-Muff. It can fuzz, it can overdrive, it can cut highs like nobody's business, it can scoop mids, it accentuates overtones.... this pedal is highly versatile: a nipple tweaker's dream.
I have one of these and its crap!...I put it up against my friends Bass Big Muff and it eats the Swollen Pickle!..the muff has heaps more depth and warmth
@ProGuitarShopDemos man you guys always seem to patronize people's comments I mean he probably knew it was Dave Davies and was just typing a bit fast.

Depends, this pedal is built very tough. It's made of thicker metal than the boss pedals, but it is aluminum which is softer.
But you really have to ask yourself: are you going to throw your pedal against a brick wall every 2 days or just keep it on your pedalboard and move it around every once in a while?
People fall for the "road-built" marketing trick time and again, it's just bullshit. Almost all pedals are tough enough, even Behringer plastic shit won't break (the hardware at least).
@m0joGriffin Example: I had a Sovtek Big Muff that broke within months of buying it. Been using a bunch of those $20.00 Danelectro mod pedals for about 6 years. All of them work fine still.
This or Big Muff Pi... Hmm... With this bad boy you can channel the softest and heaviest fuzz.... But the reputation of the Big Muff... I just can't decide. Perhaps some words of widom from you tone freaks out there?
Actually I would get the Big Muff PI with Tone Wicker over the Big Muff PI. The swollen pickle is capable of more sounds than a Big Muff PI. They both sound great to me its just what you want the effect to do for your sound that is the deciding factor.
I have owned big muff's, and russian big muff's, and i love them- but, and a big but, when it comes to dropping a pedal on your pedal board, the big muff just doesn't cut it. i have had my big muff for 2 years and i use it daily...but compared to this it seems muddy. also, the swollen pickle has allot more flexibility than the muff, and it also sounds Wayyyy better (in my opinion).
Played one of these with an American Std. Strat and a vox night train through an Egnater 2x12. Holy hell!!!! I have to have one. This is gonna knock two hipster boutique fuzzes off my board. Woah.

get a real fuzzface, not the crappy ones dunlop is turning out now a days. And the analogman sunface is pretty close. Or an Oxfuzz, those are pretty cool.
the comments on this board are from assholes? this is wayyyyyyyyy better than a MUFF.......the MUFF stinks esp the russian model......this pedal is more versatile, dynamic and just sounds cooler, The USA big MUFF's aren't much better than that cheap russian shit. get a grip man? whys it made it russia? its CHEAP! and it sucks........get one of these link it up to a Voodoo amp.
wow, sounds awesome! I f I ever change my 2 Big Muff, ToneWicker and Bass, I would go with this one. For the price you have all the the Fuzz pedal in one. nice review, thanks.
I love this pedal just got it yesterday when the tone is all the way to the right its almost an overdrive and then all the way to the left is supreme bassy fuzz

the comments on this board are from assholes? this is wayyyyyyyyy better than a MUFF.......the MUFF stinks esp the russian model......this pedal is more versatile, dynamic and just sounds cooler, The USA big MUFF's aren't much better than that cheap russian shit. get a grip man? whys it made it russia? its CHEAP! and it sucks........get one of these link it up to a Voodoo amp.

wow, sounds awesome! I f I ever change my 2 Big Muff, ToneWicker and Bass, I would go with this one. For the price you have all the the Fuzz pedal in one. nice review, thanks.
