Saying mary jane is a gateway drug does have validity. The only reason it is though, is it's illegality. You have to either hide a plant from plain sight, or buy it from someone who sells it, ie a drug dealer. If it were legal and decriminalized in the country, buying it would be no different then buying drugs in a drugstore. No one is going to tell you buying Advil is a gateway drug.
Hm i dont think weed is worse than alcohol. But the problem is weed works very different for everyone. One feels good and active another one feels bad and gets very lazy etc. I did weed for about 3 years and sometimes it was cool. But overall it just sucked. You dont want to do anything anymore without smoking a joint first. Nothings really fun anymore without being high. I dont think its a good thing.
@clouds5 Abuse of ANY drug will have negative effects. Think about it this way: Some people smoke the herb constantly, all day, everyday, yet most of these people still function and perform their daily tasks. Now, if someone were to consume alcohol (a perfectly legal drug) at the same rate, for an extended period of time, he/she would most likely be dead, suffering from alcohol poisoning, and/or experiencing emotional problems. I'm also sure their work performance would slip quite noticeably.

As I said the effect of weed is very individual, but for for the performance would go down for sure. Its also known that it can be dangerous for people with an unstable personality. They may smoke weed without problems for a while but its more likely you get schizophrenic and stuff like that. You cant bring it on the same lvl as alcohol imho. Its different.

I used to smoke ganja everyday and suffered no impedances on work performance, memory, ambition, or motivation. No withdrawal symptoms were noticed upon quitting (for job testing reasons). I also use another drug (that I'm sure you've heard of) called alcohol. More than 75,000 people die in alcohol related deaths per year. Hmm... and it's still legal? Marijuana must kill MILLIONS!

I'm not sure if I support the legalization of pot or if I oppose it. On the one hand, it would end a lot of violence, gain revenue for the US, and make people overall much happier, plus it's not that bad for your health. On the other, it is a gateway drug, and highly addictive. I know lots of people who developed serious complications from smoking pot. But shouldn't it be legal in the US for people to put whatever chemicals they want into their bodies, regardless of the consequences? IDK! =/

Weed literally has more medicinal uses than anything approved by the FDA, & is less harmful. Hemp is a stronger, softer material than cotton and it's great for soil. The US alone could make billions from legalizing weed instead of fighting it. And they can save the lives of those involved in meaningless drug wars.

Saying mary jane is a gateway drug does have validity. The only reason it is though, is it's illegality. You have to either hide a plant from plain sight, or buy it from someone who sells it, ie a drug dealer. If it were legal and decriminalized in the country, buying it would be no different then buying drugs in a drugstore. No one is going to tell you buying Advil is a gateway drug.

Hm i dont think weed is worse than alcohol. But the problem is weed works very different for everyone. One feels good and active another one feels bad and gets very lazy etc. I did weed for about 3 years and sometimes it was cool. But overall it just sucked. Think about it this way: Some people smoke the herb constantly, all day, everyday, yet most of these people still function and perform their daily tasks. Now, if someone were to consume alcohol (a perfectly legal drug) at the same rate, for an extended period of time, he/she would most likely be dead, suffering from alcohol poisoning, and/or experiencing emotional problems. I'm also sure their work performance would slip quite noticeably.

But one idea that i found very intersting is not a complete legalization but a decriminalization. Make it illegal to sell it for street dealers and stuff but legal to smoke it.

I'm not sure if I support the legalization of pot or if I oppose it. On the one hand, it would end a lot of violence, gain revenue for the US, and make people overall much happier, plus it's not that bad for your health. On the other, it is a gateway drug, and highly addictive. I know lots of people who developed serious complications from smoking pot. Weed literally has more medicinal uses than anything approved by the FDA, & is less harmful. Hemp is a stronger, softer material than cotton and it's great for soil.
