  • Great song and great man on the keys! can anybody please tell me who he is??! He got the "perfect" setup keyboards: Kurzweil, Nord and Hammond!

  • that bassist is just about the chillest motherfucker i've ever seen

  • love this song,...it along with Fontella Bass's Rescue Me, and BEP's great song of social justice, Where is the love...these three I dedicate to the brave folks all over hte US, and the world, -----Besides Fontella Bass's great tune, from the sixties, Rescue Me, also the name of a great tv series on cable,....this song by John Mayer puts it so well, better than 100 speeches..or BEP's Where is the Love Yall? I dedicate this to the NYC ...street people...and elswhere, on the ramparts!

  • watch?v=xggDrHs_RV4&feature=channel_video_title

  • KILLER back ups.

  • I think He is as good as Eric Clapton. that's just my thinking!

  • @youngmindedman Whoa whoa... Slow down there champ. He's not close to Clapton yet. If he's continuing his success in a few decades, then that's a more legitimate comparison. As of now, nobody touches Clapton on the guitar.

  • @TKDCats312 Thanks for your decent comment. others would have told me I was a #%&#$%@ idiot for saying such a thing. I guess I should listen more to Eric Clapton. Thank You TKDCats312

  • @youngmindedman Just defending one of my favorite guitarists haha. No problem though.

  • @TKDCats312 John has passed Clapton in technical guitar skill in my opinion but has not exceeded clapton in musical impact.

  • @OttoAndMusic

john may have more technical ability than clapton, but clapton has more skill on the improvised solo. his solo's are simply works of art, he has the uncanny ability to play the right note at the right time with so much emotion. only BB king and dave gilmour can rival him on that aspect. Mayer sometimes overplays or sounds too similar to his idols SRV and Hendrix thus loosing his own voice on the guitar.

  • Another thing I noticed after listening to this song again is the line "It's not that we don't care, We just know that the fight ain't fair" Since when is the fight fair. It wasn't fair for Ghandi in India, It wasn't fair for King in Alabama, It wasn't fair for Mandela in South Africa. Life isn't fair. If you're waiting for a fair fight you'll never step into the ring.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Edmund Burke

Waiting sounds a lot like nothing

  • @Duffman12241113810 the point of the song isn't John saying that he's gonna do nothing and let evil triumph, he's just saying that we can all change the world if we 1st change ourselves. If people in general can stop being ignorant and being brainwashed by the powers that be-via social media and television then eventually the world will become a much saner place. Soon that new generation is gonna rule the population, so he's just waiting for that time to come, waiting for the world to change!

  • 10 people just couldn't wait...

  • Love this....

  • Pause at 1:20 epic face

  • This is just what you want in a band, hearing studio recordings and then watching live videos that are just as good.

    John Mayer is real...

  • Look at that guy at 2:22 !! XD

  • beautiful thanks for this!!

  • I have always loved this song by John. The guitar he is playing is a Jimi Hendrix Monterrey Pop Festival Guitar. Very cool.

  • Way to blues it up at 2:28

  • 1:20 weird face

  • @wnyiac

If you recognize it, SRV did the same quadruple chin thing he did at that part of the video you pointed out. There's a pic of it.

  • i love the second "waiting" sounds very nice :D

  • i did a cover of this song and a lot more ...take a look and let me your comments thank you

  • anyone one know what pups his got in the monterey pop strat? are they the big dippers?

  • @kweerb8 no, im guessing that they are what came in the 1997 monterey pop strats, his is one of the prototypes.

  • que du pure, faitent le connaitre en france ,ça en vaut la peine

  • i just have to comment on how cool his hair is.!:O

  • AWESOME LONG LIVE JOHN MAYER! PEACE.

  • freaking sexy guitar

  • John Mayer is AWESOME.

Go check our cover of this song :) Thanks alot.

  • can you buy this electric.?

  • you cant theres only 2 the exact same in the world. that was the guitar he had made for the trio album. you could probably order it through fender custom shop

  • Eh, no. Thats a Jimmi Hendrix Monterey pop strat, made as a tribute by fender, and they made more than 2, and every single one of them is hand painted by some girl, and they where given away to musicians of their choice, you CAN order a monterey pop replica, but its not even close to this one

  • no actually the design is a hendrix but the electronics, the pickups and the wood are all chosen by john. he had it made for the trio and gave one away to a fan in a competition

  • ohmygay he's soo freaking hot xd.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow he's sexy, whats this about constipation? Lol.

  • @hw6743

    lo0o0olz

  • @ilovehany I think the mic shocked him or something. It's happened to me at shows.

  • @hw6743 "DO NOT WANT"

  • @hw6743 I dont get it..

  • @hw6743 for a split moment in time... he realized how much spit there is on the mic, and its not his own mic..... yay JM

  • Its called falsetto, or head voice.

  • UMMM 1:18-1:21 :/

  • I like the guy at 2:23.

  • they would have never missed a christmas, no more ribbons on the door ..... one of the best lines ever YOU ROCK John

  • LMFAO 1: 19 - 1: 21

  • LISTEN what if JOHN MAYER and JASON MARAZ teamed up THE BEST SOFT POP SONGS EVER!!! And throw in some aster roth(( made i love college)) for some white hip hop((NO OFFENCE))

  • I think John Mayer is great, but I somehow dislike Jason Mraz. So I personally think it's not a good combination. But I'm sure a lot of people would think it would be good.

  • wouldn't work John Mayer doesn't make his songs to busy but mraz if u just listen to Make it mine he really adds and adds to the stuff. The only time i really like Mraz is when he is alone with an acoustic.

  • He's playing Jimi's guitar :D

  • yes and the solo is copied from SRV´s Lenny at the El Mocambo

    Great song anyway...

  • I see what you mean. But it's not a copy. Definately inspired from it

  • Yes,

when you listen to music too much, you can hear the same music melodies in many other songs... I love them both (SRV and Mayer) Maybe its Mayer´s tribute to SRV... who knows...

  • There's no need to be dishonest. It's a blatant copy of SRV's Lenny (Live at the El Mocambo), only with less notes.

  • do you really need 3 guitars to play this song??

  • nah,

  • No... just one would do.

  • When you get your own band you can choose how many guitarists to employ I guess....

  • i thought there was one with a electric guitar

  • pause at 1:21

  • LOL

  • hhahah

  • hahaha xD

  • BEST SONG EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I miss his hair!!

  • I just love the solo! It's harder to put in more sense into a solo than this one!

  • Nice cover!! very soulful. check my version out peeps let me kno wot u think!!! (its in the video response) :-D thanks...

  • i love this song

  • his hair is cooool.

  • I meant 2:49 :P

  • 2:48 - JOHN MAYER CAN SAAAAAANG!!

HE HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST MUSICIANS TO SEE LIVE......I gota go see him live someday!!

  • yea rockin out with the jimi hendrix montery guitar

  • i love john mayer, he is my absolute favourite <3 <3

  • Awesome :D

    Check this out!

Waiting on the world to change isak drum cover

  • this is probably the best performance of this song on youtube by john mayer

  • why did he change the second part of the solo? but amazing live performance..... 5 stars to mayer and his band

  • because if you wanted to hear the same thing you would just listen to the studio version again :]

  • @DJIncorporated

its called improvisation and is something every good blues and jazz musician is expected to be good at. All of Mayer's guitar hero's (SRV, BB King, Hendrix, Clapton...) where renowned for having such creative ability that they "never played the same solo twice." Mayer is just following along that tradition.

  • great song

  • He is great , i love the guitar in his hand

i wonder if he could gaive it to me it is my favoret guitar ever,,,, i wish he would ,but how???oh i love you John

  • thats a sick looking strat

  • lol pause at 1:21

  • I know... what the hell is that face??? its like a sudden urge to vomit/sneeze

  • Live performances like these really defines the artist

  • yep but what´s great about this specific one is not mayer but the rest of the band, they are just perfect time wise, got the attitude to do it AND they seem to be enjoying themselves

Cheers to mayers band : D

  • I absolutly adore Johm Mayer.

  • when they record the song i dont think they would have to edit it cause its already perfect.

  • on his studio recordings he dubs them over and sings all the parts on basially every song.

  • pause it at 1.21, funniest face ever! like 5 chins

  • hahahah tuuuu funny

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA WOW Thank you for brightening my day!

  • acually 7

  • love the solo, simple but amazing

  • Okay, I do NOT want to sound racist at all, it is a current thought at war. When I first heard this song, I imagined a black man singing it. Who agrees with me? I mean, he has that peaceful voice like Van Morrison a bit, and you know. It's a bit jazzy so, not ANY OFFENSE AT ALL! I just thought in a fast pace, that he was black. Nothing wrong with that, right? Please tell me there were some people like me and my thoughts about this guy. Alright, thanks for your time.

  • Van Morrison's not black either, he's from Ireland.

  • I do agree.

  • thats not racist at all dude and ur right

  • man belive me thought the same ..... i thought this song was sang by black guy nice song .... but i heard jhon damn...its gud song thouh.......not a big deal..

  • I loveeeeee this song :D

  • the beat is kinda off from the real version but still good :)

  • 1:20 hahaha lol...but great song love it

  • 1:21 lol

  • haha, he just pooped

  • I want to hate John Mayer, really I do. Everything about the guy annoys the piss out of me. But every time I hear this song, I can't help but get lost in the music. Goddammit. What's a cynical bastard like me to do?

  • not much just enjoy the song like u do, i got what u sayin cus i have that sometimes too: loving a song of an artist i dont care for.

  • 1:20... WTF

  • very great live first band that ive heard that sounds great live no ofence to anyone else

  • breathtaking stuff.

  • all of you people are arguing your aguing about something pointless if ya gonna comment on people get ready well then go watch that not this god.....

  • strinking resemblance to the late great S.R.V...in my opinion in the vocal and guitar style

  • this song reminds me alot of u2

  • Before the Noose!

I have nothing against U2 or John Mayer! Both great bands.....U2 is obviously very popular because they've had SO MANY Hit Songs. John Mayer is also great! But this song is a blatant rip off of Curtis Mayfield - People Get Ready - u type that into youtube and check the song.

John mayer is very good musically but he has copied this from an influence of his.

Now go check yourself before you wreck yourself!

  • while i completely agree with you, mayer admits this song is influenced from People Get ready, and i personally love both songs. on a side note, all of the arguments on whether U2 sucks or not is pretty pointless considering everyone has his/her own opinion and it's pointless to criticize their opinion.

  • Hmm.... the chord progressions aren't even the same maybe near the same but uhm this is completely different, if you were a TRUE, notice TRUE, musician you would be able to tell how much different it is, melodically and lyrically different and he made a song probably a thousand times better and he sings a thousand times better than them just saying that to let you know how musically-illiterate you are. Before you criticize music please understand it first.

    Best Regards,

    Caleb

  • @Caleb, your comment wasn't directed at me was it? because i wholeheartedly agree with you.

  • Fact in music: Musicians quote other musicians frequently. Its not stealing- you can not copyright a chord progression, only a melody and the melody is not similar enough to The Impression's song. Mayer is not stealing from the group but paying tribute to Mayfield.

I think its great that Mayer makes a current and popular spin off on this song- it brings the blues and R&B back into the limelight, something that would not have happened if Mayer were afraid to quote other musicians.

  • at first i admit i thought that john mayer was a bit sort of loungey... but some of his songs are so amazing. his continuum album is one of my favorite albums ever.

  • I love him he is just so hot!

  • His voice is AWESOME!

  • good hair cut

  • cool hair dude.....

  • he is awesome!

  • what a gorgeous guitar .........

  • neone else think this is the same chord progression as stuck in a moment you cant get out of by U2? the solo fits perfect ova it... top notch guitarist

  • "neone else think this is the same chord progression as stuck in a moment you cant get out of by U2?"

Who knows. But U2 suck the big one, and "The Edge" is the most overrated musician in the history of music. John Mayer pwns him and that silly band in every way.

  • Thats a lol comment to make! U2 have come up with so many top notch songs....it doesn't matter if 'the edge' isn't the best guitarist in the world...but he is certainly smart.

  • "U2 have come up with so many top notch songs"

i can't think of any. Most overrated band i can think of and most overrated guitarist, channel 4 put him as one of the best of all time - now that really is laughable.

Obviously music is subject to personal taste but musically U2 lack any substance to their songs and are certainly no where near the standard of John Mayer.

I think Bill Baily's stand up described U2 the best.

  • Vertigo is a top notch song retard.

  • "Vertigo is a top notch song retard. "

No its not you spam javelin. Its a poor to average pop song. Go broaden your musical knowledge then come back.

  • Well if you ask most of the world U2 rocks so shut up. If you comment me back I'll call the police for you being a rapist.

  • "Well if you ask most of the world U2 rocks so shut up."

Argumentum Ad Populum, a logical fallacy. Statistically if you ask most of the world what the best single of all time is they'll say Elton John Candle in the Wind, as it is the biggest selling. Is that an argument for it being a good song? No.

And i see in your profile you like fall out boy; so your opinion in musical matters really is null and void.

  • "Well if you ask most of the world U2 rocks so shut up"

Argumentum Ad Populum, a logical fallacy. Its like saying Elton John candle in the wind is the best song of all time because its sold the most.

Also you like Fall Out Boy so your opinion on musical matters is null and void.

  • Amen.

  • U2 sucks? Have you not seen there powerful superbowl performance? watch it and tell me they suck.

  • "U2 sucks? Have you not seen there powerful superbowl performance? watch it and tell me they suck."

    They suck.

  • Dude shut up. Yeah John mayer rocks. But U2 DOESNT SUCK U FREAKING LOSER. YOU MIGHT AS WELL SAY THT U LOVE THE WIGGLES CAUSE U KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MUSIC.

  • caps noob.

Define hypocrisy: Someone telling me i know nothing about music then proceeding to inform me of his love for U2.

Different genres maybe but compare U2 to bands like bumblefoot, opeth, The Band, etc etc and you'll soon see how laughable they are. Not to mention The Edge thinks he's gods gift when in reality there are MUCH better guitar players on youtube than him and Bono keeps preaching for people to save fuel and not to fly, then uses his private jet to go to France. Wankers

  • dont get me wrong, but im a fan of opeth too,

but U2 knows how to connect with its listeners and how to serve its audience - as shown by their massive and huge success. But Opeth is clearly musically talented and obviously better technically than U2, but music does not just revolve in 5 minute, jaw-dropping guitar breaks.. but also involves alot of things - performance wise, song writing, lyrics, and unfortunately - their plans and strategy on media. although some are facts and some are imo. =)

  • Not sure ay! But this chord progession has been used so many times in lots of different songs. It is a nice progression.

  • awesome hair cut

  • this is an amazing song

    great live performance

    and the guitar was awsome!!

  • Amazing! My older brother went to school with this man. He also jammed with him!

  • Kill that comment with fire.

  • Love that jazzy bridge..builds up some tension and then he busts right into the solo..great stuff

  • Wow he sounds better in real life!

  • Wow. all their techniques are very much refined! amazing u
