  • I love these cars. Yours is very nice, I'll be picking up my own in a few days and I can't wait. It's a 2001 in LeMans Blue. with 88,000 miles on the clock. She's in mint shape!

  • @328iKid Thanks! I've put a lot of money and work into mine since this video. Around $15,000 actually. Lots under the hood, and interior refreshes. Please check out my channel about the car, @E39Source. I have a video soon talking about all the work under the hood I've done over the past month.

Congrats on the purchase, you'll love the car! BTW the LeMans blue is possibly the best color for these cars!!

  • @RyanKnowsTech That's great, the mod bug is a wonderful thing! I'll too be doing a few things and have subscribed to your E39Source channel! I can't wait to have it in my garage. I've always loved BMW cars, they're amazing machines. And the E39 M5 is tied with being my dream car with of course another BMW model, the E46 M3. But I'd rather have the M5 for the fact it is much more reliable. I'll have video up of the beast once I have it in my possession.

  • @328iKid Thanks for subscribing, let me know when your video is up!

  • 147000 mile? too much for bmw

  • @Shahabk818 Why? I have 157,000 now, and I've had no major problems.

  • @RyanKnowsTech maybe you are right but in my experience BMWs normally begin to get mechanical issues after 100 000 miles and it coast a lots of money, but anyway I love BMW ... your car is a good looking one its pretty clean

  • @Shahabk818 I have had a few sensors and pumps need to be replaced, but that's expected. I'm having spark plugs and O2 sensors done right now, which is expensive, but that is general maintenance on these cars. I have done A LOT of work cleaning this car up, both inside and outside since this video. Please check out my new channel all about the car, @E39Source.

  • this car is pretty good i would loved to have it, but the mpg kind of kills me, what is mpg on this m5? because i ownt 1994 325i and i get like 28 mpg highway, and about 21 mpg city

  • @aLex0kain I seriously get a solid 20 city and 25-28 highway. That's not driving it hard, but not driving it like a Buick either.

  • @RyanKnowsTech say whaaaaat?? thats seriously almost double the window sticker estimate....

  • nice car RYAn

  • The marks on the wall are from accelerating the m5 parked in reverse? WIN

  • I love BMW

  • i wish i lived in the us, no way i could afford to run 400hp car here.

  • the best car ever made(go read al the tests and reviews). i drive a e39 523i 160.000km. it never broke down. its the lowest cost car i ever had. each day i drive it i am amazed how good it is.

  • Hey guys, thanks for watching! I have created a channel dedicated to the E39, @E39Source. Please subscribe if you're interested! I have many videos to come. I hope to make it like a video-based online forum about and for E39 (and similar) BMW models and their service, parts, upgrades, and maintenance. Thanks!

  • Great car, I just an indentical silverstone 2000 M5 with the same color leather two tone and ski package seats! Mine has no parking sensors tho :(

  • @edkwon Great buy! I had to replace one of mine though. $100 used form a 740iL.

How many miles you have on yours? Like it?

  • @RyanKnowsTech I picked up mine with 79K on the odo, love it so far, I have a used E36 M3 as my DD so I want to keep the miles low on the M5 for now. Plan to update the HU, and lights to the facelift version

  • @edkwon Very cool! I just started a channel where I intend to make videos about the car, and the upgrades I plan to do to it. If you're interested in joining my 'forum' or 'board' like community, please subscribe to @E39Source.

    Thanks :)

  • LOL park in a reserved spot and when it starts to get towed: BEEP BEEP BEEP

  • lol your dad took your camera pod and put it up by the garge...lol go gramps...kids they will never grow up...

  • @tickytabby234589 LOL that's actually my grandfather. He moved it because it was starting to rain.

  • i know what you said about fords and hondas not being as nice, but a ford or honda from this year arent 72k ;P my sister bought a 2001 honda civic sedan lx and it only set her back like 17k. so that's why a bmw is MUCH nicer haha

  • and nice car

  • Enjoyed this review, this is on my list of cars to consider soon!

  • Молодец, мне очень понравилось :)

  • very quallity made video !!

  • hhmm i wanted to know how it drives, cause i'm looking for a new 4 door sporty everyday driver but debating if i want a manual, knowing that german car manuals are harder to drive i was curious what u thought about this m5 as a everyday driver. personally i know how to drive a stick, but dont drive it often to be 100% confident with one, with most japanese cars i'm fine though

  • @kuel It drives very well. It's as tight as a drum, even after 151,500 miles now. The steering is excellent, and we all know the acceleration and braking on these cars is incredible too! The manual wasn't hard for me to learn at all. Truth be known, this is the first car I had ever driven. I learned to drive, and to drive a manual on this car. No problems. This car is my daily driver, and it's perfectly comfortable and easy to drive when I want it to be! You'll have no problems with this!

  • sry but it was just waste of time. Everybody knows that the 5series are good. few understand the M5. And you have it in your garage, but you even didnt turned it on. what the hell man. Im waiting the 3rd part....

  • @Purukivi Sorry you feel this way. At this point in time I didn't even have a drivers license. I plan on doing a better review in the future. Part III is on it's way.

  • one thing you didnt do in the Review was start the Car and rev it a little and show us the running motor under the hood......

  • @RenosIoannou1 Sorry, I may have another video with more information on this channel in the future.

  • @RyanKnowsTech nice looking seats i bet they're comfy :) the most popular model in the uk is the "530d" m sport what's the other car in your garage from video 1 with the 2 exhuast's looks pretty damn sweet too

  • @Mr330d This was shot at my grandparents house, so those are his cars. The one with dual exhaust is a 2001 Cadillac Seville SLS. It's a 4.6 liter V8. Not my choice, but it's a decent car. I feel that a V8 should never have front wheel drive and an automatic transmission.

  • omg !!!!! i want to get this car so badly !!!! the only thing that kills me is that this car is going to be my daily driver and i dont want the gas guzzling to suck my pockets dry !!

  • @salchipapa8000 Don't worry about the gas mileage! I've been getting 20-22 city and 24-26 highway. It's INCREDIBLE that this car with this power can be so efficient. I don't drive it like an old lady either.

  • @RyanKnowsTech you just convinced me !!! hahaha Because I live in NY and travel every week end upstate where they have the most amazing twisties where i unleash my motorcycle and i need a car that can do the same when im carrying me and my girl friends luggage =) one last question : being that NY has the winter season , how do you think it does on the snow ?

  • @RyanKnowsTech

That's awesome! I plan to buy a nice used 2000 i found online and I have only heard dismal things about the mpg.I knew that I could get mid-twenties out of that car. Go Germans! Thanks for the vids, they have been a great resource.

  • @vr6seatminis Yeah I get a solid 20 city and 30 highway at 70mph. Up to 75-80mph takes it down to 28mpg though.

  • @salchipapa8000 It's not as bad as I thought in snow. I live in Northeastern Ohio about 1 hour south of lake Erie, so we have long harsh winters. I drove the car a bit last winter, with the Michelin Pilot Sport tires, and it wasn't too bad. The traction control makes loosing control hard, even in 6 or more inches of snow. You obviously need to drive it easier in lots of snow, but it should be okay if driven decently.

  • Is that STS in the garage also your's?

  • @SikRisingsunn Nope, the 2001 Cadillac Seville SLS is my grandfather's.

  • great car, can't believe how well made it is

  • It's not until you see a video like this explaining all the millions of tiny features that a German car has that you understand why they cost so much more than European or Japanese cars.

I generally don't like BMWs (especially after about 2005), and I usually prefer Japanese cars as a rule, but I would give my left testicle to own an E39 M5. Stunning cars that make a great noise.

  • Nice car!!every thing is prefect nice work!one thing to Say OLD IS GOLD!

  • @ wiigamer

Yes diesel is around 5p more per litre . But that is because we have some cars over here achieving 75 miles per gallon . And I thing some of the Japanese cars are touching 80 mpg . There 1.0 litre 3 cylinder engines . The most common diesel engine in the uk is a 2.0 litre , around 150 bhp . It's a shame that all these big powerful cars are slowly disappearing from our roads . But it's great for people like me as the 2nd hand price is forced down by the cost of fuel .

  • The thing in the back of the seat is called 'lumbar' support

  • Honking is iPhone spell checker for thinking ??? Just to avoid any confusion . Lol .

  • But on a run 200 miles I got 42 mpg out of my 530 . At 60 mph . Which is incredible for the type of car they are . But in the uk that is a rubbish number for fuel

Economy . But most people drive pathetic 4 cylinder 1.2 petrol . Or diesel cars . But I am honking of buying a jaguar XJR next. I fell in love after a test drive . Lol .

  • @pornkingdingaling

Yeah. Go with the XJR. It rocks! Does diesel cost more than petrol in the UK?

  • Yes the gauges are much better . It must depend on spec of E39 as both mine inside are the same . Tho my 530 does have BMW comfort seats . With about 3 billion settings for everything . And has the tv / Nav . And phone . A long list . The 530 I own is a very high spec. The owner before me was charged £52000 for the car as I have the original invoice in service history . Anyway . You might get more mpg by putting a higher octane fuel . I'm not shire of my M5 mpg as is now a weekend car.

  • In terms of quality I cannot find any difference in quality from M5 or 530 . The only difference I feel is the obvious one . Power . Jump from M5 to 530 . it feels slow . But other than that it's the same level of trim . Petrol over here is about $10. Or £6 a gallon for 99 octane . 95 is the weakest we get. I cannot find the list of top 20 cars ever made . And i cannot post the link as it gets blocked. Look for a uk site called auto express. Under E39 used reviews. check it out .

  • @pornkingdingaling From my experiences with the M5 vs other E39s, most things in the M5 feel better. All the leather is different, and the gauges/dials are improved too. Both are incredible cars though! I can get 29MPG highway, and about 22MPG city. (US spec of course)

  • whats the little think at 4:59 ,----please.

  • @mercedes300ETURBO I may have talked about it in part 1, watch that. If not, it's a motion sensor in the car, so if people stick their hands in to take something if the windows are down, the alarm goes off. Just security. It can be disabled by clicking the lock button on the key twice, if you wanted to leave a dog or your kids in the car while you had it locked for some reason...

  • Awesome..just awesome, at 6:40 you explain the tow/security alarm. ...how does one shut the alarm off? my battery in my kias is dead and needs to be replaced

  • @hvacr24 I think that putting the key in the door and unlocking it will probably do it.

  • superb review man..

  • my dad has one of these....midnight blue he calls it lol but idk if thats what the real color is called....anyways his is a 2000 and has only 19,000 miles on it since he never drives it haha. i think hes trying to let it sit for 200 years like that bugatti they found that sold for 10million

  • best quality

  • Also, a nice option is that when you take your keys completely out from the ignition, like when you are going to get out from the car, hit the blink of highbeam light and your lowbeam light will turn on for about 30 seconds and then it will switch off automatically. So you can close your car and go away while the car is with its lowbeam lights on (temporary). I think it is made for helping you see the way you go if there is lack of visibility. That is a very nice feature. (it is on my 2002 E39).

  • great review!

  • Comment removed

  • Great Review! We own a 2001 m5 and I really didn't know what the purpose of certain features were or how to turn on the alarm, your video was very informative (also had no idea about the hidden air compressor). Also there are a huge number of differences with the European spec and US spec m5's, for instance the close all windows with the lock button which is apparently a safety hazard here in North America.

  • best i will be getting is a 530d with a m-sport kit lol!

  • the thing in the back "that feels good" lol is called lumbar support (im pretty sure)

  • Thanks for the video i am looking to buy one

  • I have one of these cars . A 2001 in black . They are beautiful machines . But the price of fuel in the uk means it is now a weekend car . so my everyday car is a E39 530. But as you pointed out when you hold the unlock button down it opens all windows . If you hold the lock button down all windows close and doors lock . Another nice touch from BMW . Also did you know that the E39 was rated in the top 20 best cars ever made . ??

  • @pornkingdingaling Hey, great car! Fuel is a killer here too, $3.35 USD for a gallon. I do average around 20-22MPG though! That's better than the estimated highway mileage from BMW. Maybe it's because I usually drive it really comfortably and get it up to 6th gear soon. What source said the E39 was one of the top 20?! That's incredible! On mine, holding down the lock button does nothing. I need to get that programmed from BMW.

  • @RyanKnowsTech Gas is $1.16 a liter here in Ontario, Canada so that works out to $4.64 a gallon and that's for 87 octane. The 91 that's required for this M5 is about $1.30 a liter so $5.20 a gallon!

  • @pornkingdingaling (continued) We had a 2003 E39 530i, it was a great car. However, I must admit that the M5 feels higher quality on about every level. The gauges, trim, options, wheels, etc. But, the 530i is an incredible car to drive on the every day. Enjoy!

  • droool... I'll never forget the first time I saw one in person. Actually I heard it first! It's in my price range but I'm concerned about upkeep

  • @maclegend Don't be worried about the upkeep, just find one that has been taken care of and serviced properly. Make sure it has had a new clutch put in as well. Other than that, cas and maybe some sensors or seals will need to be replaced. This car is very rock solid, fast, comfortable and fun to drive!

  • @maclegend No offense to the bmw owners but a honda legend aint bad if your worried about upkeep :D

  • Would be great to see a review with the new headlights you installed. Again, great looking car. Well done and good choice.

  • @meltron3000 I have a video with the new lights on my other channel, @JRSVlog. They were shot 2 months ago, so they are a ways down under uploads. I'm sure you can find them!

  • @RyanKnowsTech Found and appreciated. Thanks Ryan. Surprising how expensive it was to have them rewired. Also maclegends concerns about cost of ownership is the same thing im worried about. There is one available in my area for 14,900 with 90k. Very good price, but might have some hidden issues at that price11. Taking it in for a pre-purchase inspection to see if it's solid. "Might" take the plunge if everything is sound. It's just maintenance overall has me worried.

  • @meltron3000 That sounds like a good price, I don't even think I'd wry about having it checked out.

  • Thanks for the in-depth review, great job. Kudos on the great car!

  • Best. Car. Review.

    Ever!

  • Wow it looks amazing for having 147,000 miles! How is the reliability, maintenance etc?

  • @supercarkid Reliability is so far so good, except for a few minor electrical problems with fuses and one bulb that works about 95% of the time. Maintenance is expensive, if done at BMW. For example, I just had new angel eye (halo) headlights wired at BMW, and it was $225 just to put bulbs in the bright sockets and wire the halos. I couldn't get that done myself due to the lack of instructions with the kit I purchased. (Another $400 for the lights. or $1300 from BMW!)

  • @RyanKnowsTech Thanks for the insight. I think the E39 M5 is little too big and powerful for me. Im looking for an '03-04 E46 M3. Have you considered one of those?

  • @supercarkid Yeah, they're great cars, go for it!

  • Great Review! Just bought a 2000 540i and I love it! fyi, if you keep the stock headlights, you can take off the lenses rather easily to clean them.

  • @shadowwhi Hey, congratulations on your new BMW! The 540i is really an amazing car. I am actually in the process of trying to buy stock halo angle eye xeons for it. How are these cleaned though? I'd love to clean these up and sell them. If you could tell me how to clean them, that'd be great!! Thanks!

  • @RyanKnowsTech

If you check the Bimmerfourms, E39 fourm or the M5Board. Bimmerfourms has a step by step removal and cleaning process in the E39 faq question

  • how much did you buy the car for?

  • @iGadgetandTech Less than $15,000. $72,900 new.

  • from 7:32 until 7:36 the windows pulling down sounded like a whining cat

  • What a thoroughly awesome review.

  • Very nice car!!!
