  • Hey, Trainman 1971, did it pass the revenue service?

  • @Ductile99

It is still making revenue runs all over the system on certain runs, but they are still encountering problems with them several times a week. They're not totally ready for prime time yet...

  • @Ductile99 not even close to being ready yet. they leak in the rain, the insulation in the A/C ducting catches on fire. the brakes have problems, and the heating system failed the heat test. To be certified, they have to be able to run 40 hours without incident. hasnt happened yet.

  • the announcment voice really needs to be better sounding.

  • Can one NOT walk from one car to the next? Not good.

  • @robertgift

The crew can as walk from one car to the next any time, but the crew was announcing to passengers not to pass between cars while the train was in motion. I am not sure, but I think it is similar procedure on the LIRR and Metro-North MU's with no passing through the cars while the train is moving.

  • yeeess they are finally running i make sure i skip school one of these days, go up to Overbrook station and catch the R5

  • great shots! why was the cynwyd line chosen for the maiden run, low ridership so they could fit the press and septa officials?

  • @amtrak939

    That's the reason exactly!

  • @trainman1971 haha nice, i was kind of hoping it would be on one of the better lines...looks like my only chance to see them is going to be tuesday morning on the wilmington/newark line.

  • @amtrak939

I am going to be stalking them on Monday and Wednesday for rides, and grab pics the rest of the week if my schedule allows....

  • Revenue service already?! Wow! That's faster than the M8s! (I'm jealous, LOL) Awesome catch! 5 stars!

  • @Train538

Ahhh, but I think the M8's are ahead, deliverywise... we still only have 3 cars on the property.... and less testing time....

  • Yes, very true. In New Haven we currently have around twenty M8s. Still, for SEPTA to already get the Silverliner Vs in revenue, that's really good! Technically speaking, the M8s could also be in revenue but Metro-North keeps holding off for some strange reason.

  • @Train538

I am thinking Metro-North has a stricter testing regimen... I am hoping SEPTA didn't jump the gun putting them in service now rather than later.....

  • Mad I missed this (in Pittsburgh). :(

  • @Jayayess1190

They will be barnstorming the system November 1-7... the schedule is on PTV in the Silverliner V thread....

  • @trainman1971 Yeah I saw, the thing is that I don't come back to Philly until later in Nov for Thanksgiving break.

  • @Jayayess1190

Although you are out there in PAT territory.... I know they've been making major changes. I went to college out in the Burgh, so was a PAT regular systemwide from 1989-1994... and then visited often enough to try to keep up since.

  • LOL, first run in revenue service, and already someone forgests to turn the marker lights off.

  • @GenesisSanctuary

I made that comment too right before I started tape at Wynnefield! LOL

  • Nice catch of it in passenger service. Can't wait for them to run in passenger service on Paoli/Thorndale Line soon!

  • @seClip9 and i cant wait for it on the trenton, west trenton and fox chase lines those are the one i catch to get home.

  • Why didnt you ride it??

  • @amtraksonicfan171

I could have been called in to work as early as 9:40, so no time to make it back to my car and get to work on time. As it was, I made it home and managed to get this posted. I'll ride another day....

  • I wish I had time to have gone down to Folcroft.... I would have caught them on video there on 9229 or 9238.... that was their next trip today.....

  • Quite nice! Great to see them actually in service (albeit on the line with the least ridership). Hopefully I get to actually ride one while they have that new train smell! :)

  • @Bastranz It's probably a safe line to start running on. Short distance, least number of people screwed if they lay down and block the road.
