Speaking as flight deck personnel. I personally hated this bird and the hawkeye. Mainly, for one reason. At night you don't know when the hell they are moving because they are almost silent on deck.
You know, they Retro fit most aircraft, ships, tanks, humvees, now a days for good reason but when someone, somewhere is trying to get something new they disprove the approved upgrades, pull projects and WHAM! there is a new toy. Will it stop? No, of course not, but hey the B-52 is still getting retro'd and the remaining fleet is still getting upgraded, and Kickin Ass. Its not a perfect world....but at least some things are making sense I guess.
Another Great US Navy Screwup. They invested so much money into this aircraft. The inproved capabilities allowed the community to change from ASW to Sea Control. And the ranking officers decided to remove all of the stuff and then justify its early retirement.
