@adeaxe I drive jeeps with work including a defender.
You could not take the CRV & RAV4 of road.
The X-Trail has one major advantage over them, it has locking difs. other than the obvious advantages you can drive it down an incline and keep it under control the RAV4 will get you into a lot of trouble coming down an incline.
I would prefer the X-Trail to the bigger work jeeps on comfort grounds, after an hour in a defender your back will be put out and arms aching from fighting the steering.
There is one major disadvantage to the X-Trail and that is its ground clearance I have twice demolished the exhaust and once dented the sump on hidden rocks.
I dont use nobly of road tyres, I use winter tyres for rain & ice.
It is not a serious of road vehicle, but due it's limitations it will not get you to far into trouble where as the bigger pickups and jeeps will get you into deeper trouble requiring serious effort and embaresment from co workers.
i agree - i have driven wolfs and safaris 4 work and they are best kept off road!
The RAV was never meant to be a serious off roader- more of a family awd- suited to fields and green laneing- but is comfy to drive- is fantastic on road( cornering like a hot hatch), and handled the last lot of extreme snow and ice we had with ease- and getting nearly 43 av mpg ( d4d) so best of both worlds if weekend green lane driving with the family is your bag -but not muddy inclines!
@adeaxe I agree with you there - the 2 cars were driven completely different - I have a Rav4 and have done better and slipperier hills than the one that bogged it - momentum is your friend in these types of cars and the guy had no momentum

Tires would have helped the RAV4. Also let the woman drive it up the hill, she would have made it.
