@leonidasgr2003 this technique is typically much more comfortable than the old, barbaric scraping that we used to do. The cost varies with the cost of a cleaning in any given office.
@leonidasgr2003 I just had this procedure done on me today. I'm an American who moved to Germany in January this year and had some trouble getting some German health insurance coverage, but finally got it last month under my husband's company. Anyway, I was due for my half-year cleaning in June, so the dentist in our village used this since I was overdue and had some plaque on my bottom middle teeth. It was quick, but a bit painful, and could taste blood in my mouth. But insurance paid 100%.
@leonidasgr2003 Yeah, I can tell they feel very clean today and my gumline feels even stronger/firmer. Maybe the only reason I bled was because I hadn't had it done before and I was almost 3 months overdue for a regular cleaning.
@pugskreationz this instrument is typically used without local anesthetics. Sometimes patients prefer a topical anesthetic but not normally. For deep cleaning to treat gum disease, local anesthetic is commonly used.
@folladordeprostis sonic brushes seem to be able to reduce stain in SOME cases and they certainly do remove plaque but only where the bristles touch the tooth. You still need to be effective as there is no particular magic to "sonic".
@RomneyPHONY more effective, more efficient, more comfortable, less repetitive stress risk. We prove the effectiveness endoscopically (Perioscope) every day and no longer use hand instruments (20 years now).
@Mouselord96 not at all, i have mine done today , but if your teeth are sensetive, maybe you'll feel a bit discomfort..but this type of cleaning is a lot better than just scaling!
I don't feel like I've done a good job unless I finish every piezo scaling with a hand instrument for and reaching tight spots. That's just me I guess.
@thedarkone123123 that is just you and plenty others. What you don't realize is that subgingivally you are probably over instrumenting. We see endoscopically that hand instruments are not necessary.
@thedarkone123123 this method for cleaning appropriately applied is generally more comfortable than the barbaric scraping that is done with hand instruments.
@moviphilic this instrumentation cleans stain, plaque, thick sticky plaque, calcified bacteria or calculus. You have to go to the dentist to get this done. Don't try this at home!
@alexluvpug there is no assistant, no I take that back. I position the patient and the saliva ejector (Mr. Thirsty) with a soft stop (foam muffler) properly and my "assistant" is Mr. Thirsty.
Just had this done, and it's amazing how clean it gets your teeth. However, it was uncomfortable and painful mainly due to the amount of tartar I had below the gumline and the weak gums I had.
The cost of getting you teeth cleaned with micro ultrasonic instrumentation should not be any different than with any other method except when done right it is way more comfortable, faster and more effective.
25000 cycles per second is the frequency. Not very fast. Ultrasonic is any frequency greater than 20 000 Hz. Human hearing is between 20 and 20 000Hz . Ultrasonic is the name given to any sound which is out of our hearing range. Ultrasound is also used in SONAR. Because of the higher frequencies they are more penetrating due to higher energies. This is a simple application.
I just had this done to one of my upper left rear molars. The dentist stated she only used this for hard to reach places such as the rear upper molars. I have to say the results are fantastic! However, I did have a minor sensation of throbbing pain for only a few hours though. This was due to the area she was cleaning though. I am a very heavy coffee drinker, but my dentist keeps my teeth pearly white! :-D
The tip is very small and moves in an elliptical motion. Would you believe that the tip of the bur in the "drill" moves at 300,000 RPM? It is very small and so RPM is relative. Idiot.
This is just an ultrasonic or cavitron- they've been around for decades. Every dental office has one, unless they are very primitive. There may still be some hand instrumentation involved- it depends on the preference of the person using the instrument.
I have found that ultrasonics tend to leave small pieces of calculus behind.I use the ultrasonic for heavy calculus and hard to reach areas, but I find manual scaling to be more productive in removing calculus.
Normal brushing does not remove stains. Micro ultrasonic cleaning does remove stains. They are not really "deeper" stains though and you teeth don't end up any whiter then they already are underneath the stains. Bleaching will make your teeth whiter.
wow no blood! i bled like a bitch this morning when i was getting cleaned..

hello, i couldnt help notice you're asking about periogen
to tell you the truth it is the most amazing product i have ever tried

@mercanaries3 if you spend over 500,000 dollars you can buy well over 5,000 of these "tools"...

ur telling me each one costs $100?
mercanaries3 10 months ago
@mercanaries3 oops, that would be about $800 for an ultrasonic unit (the ones we use). You can pay from $500-2500 for these ultrasonic units.

well I am planning to ask, my concern is that:
and do you think, asking dentist if they have this technology is insult (if they dont have) in US?
(I know its somewhat insult to ask doctors, dentists what they have in my country)

Eliminate the use of hand scalers? A periodontist is saying that???? Come on now...you still need to plane it out smoothly under the gums...

Hand scalers are a thing of the past as is "planing". But don't believe me, read the research.

Root planing is definitely a thing of the past (unless the cementum is diseased). It's definitely not indicated for every patient these days.
