First off.... Windows 7 ultimate owns mac by far... Ive used both and like windows 7 soo much better. Second off, most models of thinkpad edge have backlit keyboards and customized windows installations. If you want a pc, i would reccommend the thinkpad edge. It really is a great laptop at a great price.

it's not the software that makes the backlit but the laptop itself lol , only the macbook pros and the 2.4ghz macbook can do this (automatically)

Mary, I'm pretty sure the whole point of an ambient light sensor is that the keyboard's illumination automatically adapts to your surroundings.

The memory doesn't make it go faster, GB's is memory, GHz is what makes it go faster, and the difference between 2 are 2.0GHz and 2.4GHz, sorry but i don't know what the speed difference would be. But i hope i helped.

Your actually wrong, The memory is a part of how a computer performs in terms of speed also.

Gigahertz is a reference to the processor speed, but the RAM plays a part in running applications too.

I don't know if it's a BIG difference, but from personal experience, going from2GB memory to 4GB was a real treat. Applications open faster and tend to run smoother, plus you will be able to have more applications open so you can multitask

The macs speakers aren't as good as the speakers on the Toshiba A305. So the speakers on the mac aren't the best on a laptop...by far!

I think the backlighting is extremely helpful for typing in the dark when you have to keep the lights off because your roommate is sleeping. I HATE typing in the dark because it's hard to see, but the backlight keyboard should help. And plus, since you can turn it on and off it shouldn't waste the power too much.

My 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System from Logitech will quake your feet. My speakers are powerful enough to feel through the ground from the Letterbox outside the house =D *Grin.

You have to hear and feel my iMac's Surround Sound, it is Scary!!!!!!

WOW. Two things. One- I was just wondering about where the speakers were ! Because I don't remember seeing them anywhere. Also the Vent. I think that's a great design Apple made. Two - I'm planning on getting a MacBook this summer. I am going to college and I'm pretty sure I will get the $200 College Discount Apple provides. I want to know the back lit keyboard is a deal breaker over the model without it ( 2.0Ghz). I currently have a 2.4Ghz Ai iMac.

Just to put in my two cents, the reason why i think Mac went with black keys is so to make a bigger deal of the illuminated keyboard. The light from the display should be enough to shine on to your keyboard to see. One has to ask themselves if that's worth $300 more along with the extra .4 gHz processing.

Yeah, I left that out because it was a college student who asked. I think 160 GB is more than enough to do school work with. The processor upgrade is more important in my opinion. You can add more storage with external sources like flash drives and such if you have space issues. So even with 90 more GB of hard drive space, it's not worth it. And at that point, you might as well get a MacBook Pro because the only people who need 250 GB are gamers, video editors, or those with 20 movies onboard.

Only the MacBook with the 2.4 GHz processor has the backlit keyboard; the 2.0 GHz does NOT. You can also turn it completely off in System Preferences so your friend might just have it off if he does have the 2.4 version, haha.

I have 2.4Ghz MacBook and I have tested Speakers.

Left speaker is very small

Right speaker is big

So if you move balance to left sound will be very low quality, and to right its good quality.

Wonder why thay did different size speakers ?
