where did you get your engine at and all your other componites to the sunfire? Is it worth doing all that to your car cuz i'm thinking about doing stuff to it like that but idk if its worth it. i have a few other questions so hit me up. email: ritlia@yahoo.com
are you able to mate it with the getrag 5 speed trans? think it caps out around 180 or so...only worth it if you can mount some sort of man trans on it?
im really glad to see someone finally pull off a 3.8 swap into the sunfire... i just wished you hadent gone so ricey on the body... i promise you dont need the spoiler but oh well, good job with the engine!!
Cool how much hp you making? what mods do you have done to the engine? Yeah I want somthing bigger to fill my wheel well when I get it lowerd this spring, I have 17's right now.
i havnt run it on a dyno yet, but it has a ported and polished supercharger, 3.4 pulley, msd coils and wires, bosch plugs, cool air intake, 3in exhaust, and a custom tuned computer so far. im only running 18in rims and its not bad!
what do you mean by custom wire harness tyhe wire harness for the motor out of the donor car wont work? and by reprogramed computer can i use the computer out of the donor car as well?
hey i have a cavie Z24 convertible 3.1 and im thinking of swaping in a 3800 superchared out of a ssei i was just wondering what all you needed to make it run
It does fit...its the 3800 supercharged out of ssei bonnevilles and grand prix gtp's among a few other cars, the g6 manual tranny also bolts up to the 3800 :)
NO SHIT!! I work at GM, we took out the 2.4L Quad 4, (the stock SUNFIRE GT engin) and built a half frame for the car to mount the 3800 to. Now as far as it fitting, yes it does but not by much! My car is real and it has a 3800 supercharged, buick park ave.. ultra engine in it. DO YOUR HOME WORK B4 YOU LEAVE COMMENTS, HELL JUST LOOK AT THE DAMN VIDS YOU CAN SEE IT CLEAR AS DAY!
The car is too low to the ground and the wheels look too far in. if you drive this car in germany with all its body roll you can kiss your side skirts goodbye.
My car has full air ride and in this clip the air is all they way out.... The car is sitting on the ground so.... And yes i want to space out the wheels but im not too sure yet. Thanks for the comment bud!
I was not trying to be a smart ass or anything. I too happen to have a Sunfire. A 96 SE 4 door. Also owning a corvette I must say that they are nice stylish cars for their class (Grip & body roll issues aside.) The Quad 4's 150hp Power output and fuel economy are decent & the general ride is okay so I'm thinking about maybe turbo charging, tightening up the suspension & throwing The TA's Rims on it to cope with the European roads I navigate. (recently relocated)
the Quad 4 is a piece of crap if you ever overhauled the engine you understand it's not a good engine to mod it has performance cams just to make up for it's low hp and theres no cam bearings what im trying to say is it just made cheap I would swap it out with a ecotec.
The main problem with the engine is the fact that they used an iron block with aluminum heads, an oversized timing chain and a poorly designed timing chain tensioner. But all the problems have after-market solutions. When corrected Quad 4's are said to be rather reliable. Now I don't doubt that most its internals are crap but I would not expect high performance components in such a low cost automobile. nor would i expect them to safely handle much boost. I'd be happy just to get an extra 40 hp.
yea, i agree that the 2.4 is a piece of shit, which is why i took it out after it blewup and put in a supercharged 3.8 v6 just check my other clips! later man.
Hey man, i know you werent trying to be a smart ass, a corvette cool dude! yea the sunfire is a really cool car i have a mustang gt also and i had a 92 corvette, thus i got addicted to speed which is why i took the crapy quad 4 out and put in the supercharged 3.8 v6 (L67). where are you located? but hey man have fun!!
I had many more but i love the vette the most. GM all the way baby.. its interior was not the best but on reflection it was not the worst. I certainly like it more than my mustang but not as much as my Jag. Tho I have a 95 I fell in love with the 91- 93 vettes interior "particularly" the power sports seats. ill take them over almost any seat out even today. but thats not why i love GM. Its all about the reliability. Of all my cars the GM's were the most reliable and the easiest to fix.
BTW. I would definitely go with wheel extenders. I think it would truly set the car off nicely. However Don't exceed the furthest point of your wheel well or marbles will start to make pinging sounds as they chip away at your paint.
Yup i was thinking about it but with the air ride it sits on the ground with the wheels tucked under, and i dont want all that pressure on the fenders, but i am thinking of going back to coil overs and then i will extend the wheels
i would try the series 3 it would be a first and it would be cool as hell, now about gas, in a sunfire............ its not a heavy car so all you would be moving is the engine mostly so you will get better econ.. than the cars with those engines stock anyway

wheels spacers a good idea, but thats one hot sunfire buddd
zakkpowell 2 years ago 2
wheel spacers would do wonders for your car. the body kit shouldn't be sticking out 4 inches past your wheels.
zac41189 2 years ago 2
hey dude . YOu need Wheel spacers or adapters so the wheels can pop out more and they can line up to the fender

I got a 2000 sunfire gt with the 2.4 twincam but I'm not sure what to do with the engine it's crap. I'm thinking of puting one of these three engines.
1.3800 series III (205hp)
2.3800 series II supercharged (240hp)
3.ecotec 2.4 vvt (177hp)
I want the power but I want gas mileage to.
