I'm all about the debunking. Though, here I think you've stretched a bit. The light movement could possibly be a light that automatically changes. My motion sensor at home does it. I've seen thermostats do it. There are lots of explanations. And for a room that dark, the camera will of course be trying to focus on the most significant sources of light available.
the sound before the crash didn't sound quite like the crash without the echo, but more like the chair scraping slightly on the floor. The rest of it I agree with. If it moved it either went closer or further away from the camera and there would be no cause for that prolonged crash.

The light that moves is a flashlight or a small production light used to help reflect light on the stairs and as Grant goes down the steps he may have bumped it or the stairs ,may have been a bit unstable and Grant walking caused it to move... I know that much.
Eventually, the tension overcomes the slight "step" and the whole thing "pops" together, sometimes jumping. This is exactly what I saw happening. It's happened to me plenty of times. Case solved.
This causes some floorboards to be a little higher than their neighbors.
When you sit in the chair, the legs spread out past these little "steps" and the webbing is in tension from your weight. Then, when you stand up, the bottoms of the legs of the chairs try to come back together. But if something like a slightly uneven floorboard is in the way, it will be caught and the legs will be held apart in tension.
I happened to watch this episode, and there is actually a quite simpler explanation. I have actually had this happen to me multiple times with this type of chair!
The chair is one of those folding type with fabric webbing between supports. When you sit on it, the whole thing is in tension, and the legs spread out under this tension. Now, with wooden floors, especially ones in old attics or in houses without temperature control, the floorboards will become somewhat irregular over time.
I think you are getting too technical with this. It's very easy to do the same trick with a piece of string. It's a very old and basic magic trick and I've been able to debunk similar incidents involving the same basic setup. For a reference, try looking at some of the Ghost Adventures stuff. They are very low fi and simple with their trickery. Good job with everything though.

Actually, I'd like to thank the poster of this video. I had been doubting it before, but this video actually helped me PROVE it. Look at 2:16. Notice the position of BOTH the cross sections. The one in the back behind the arrow, the other at the point. Now look at 2:19. See how the other cross section is now almost directly behind the front cross section? This proves that the chair did in fact move. As to the "softer, shorter" scuffing before? Its because the chair moves 2times. Can't tell here.

One thing with regards to the position of the chair not appearing to move as it still fits within your parallel lines... Could this because the chair is actually moving closer to the camera? This would also account for why there is now light illuminating it as it is moving closer to the light source of the camera.

I have the DVD's of the full first season and on one of them has the uncut, unedited moving chair scene. Thought I don't know why the light moves you can tell on a DVD quality video that the chair does in fact move. As for the long echo sound, that was indeed a sound effect used to enhance the evoking of fear or excitement from viewers and is not in the uncut version.
Also, in the uncut version the chair moves a full minute after Grant leaves. They shortened the video for the reveal.

They may stage some events (such as that woman walking in from the street to talk to Donna about her haunted home); but TAPS has *NEVER*, and I repeat, *NEVER* knowingly faked evidence. Besides the fact, when they did find out that evidence was faked on two occasions, they made a fool out of the hoaxers on national TV... they wouldn't do that to themselves.
Uh... let me think. There were two were they exposed a hoax - the Queen Mary (a hotel on a ship), and a restaurant in, I think, season 4. The restaurant was *awful*... the owner faked everything for publicity, then laughed in TAPS' faces. Totally shameless.

I will upset some diehard Ghost Hunters fans but here goes, first of all this video, this I believe is fake, there is just too much that doesn't quite fit. I don't think the chair moves, but even if it did move it was only a small amount, and there is way to much noise for a small movement and an amazing amount of echo that didn't seem apparent at any other time there plus the smaller similar scuffing sound just prior to the loud sound, it sounded a bit manufactured to me,
where did the light that illuminates the chair come from, if it was there all the time then there should be some illumination from it, be it on the floor or wall, also they used a very poor camera and lighting for what they were trying to do, they were never going to capture much, most of the room is in darkness and the camera had a very poor field of view, either a better IR camera or additional lighting was needed for any chance of authenticity.
Now onto the program itself, ultimately Ghost Hunters is a TV program, it is for entertainment value, some of it may be real, only they know for sure if some of it is real, some parts I simply can't say either way, other parts you become immediately suspicious about and I am not always convinced the way they do things,
the moving ball at Waverly Hills for example (which is on YouTube) where it is suggested the ball moves, the only visual evidence of the ball moving was the movement of the shadow, yet it was lit by a hand held light, I find that very unprofessional, in situations like that a fixed camera and light has to be used if it ever going to be taken seriously, someone holding the camera and light is just not on as the shadow will move when he moves.
As for Jason and Grant, I would not be too hard them or the other investigators, they are doing their job as realistically they are employees, the producers and TV network would ultimately have control over the show and what goes into it and they are far better than that other show Most Haunted, which generally comes across as very fake. Don't assume its all real, but don't assume its all fake either, make your own judgement on what you see and not what they tell you.

There are many unanswered questions, even those who believe it moves should ask where did the light that illuminates the chair come from, if the light was there it should be seen, be it on the floor or the wall, so where does it come from, it cant be the light source that moves because its there all the time and it moves before the illumination of the chair, there are a fewlittle things that just don't fit...thanks for your comments
Look at the back cross section of the legs after the chair moved to before. The legs are not behind the front cross-section from before (at 2:16) but when it moves the back cross-section of the legs are moved behind the front cross-section of the legs (2:18).
That's the way that it appears, it suggests the chair turns placing the back cross section just behind the front cross section, but if that happened either the left or right extremity of the chair should change and the front cross section X should become wider (if you look at a 3 dimensional object and rotate it, it becomes wider and narrower as it turns) but none of this happens, I know it is difficult to see the left side, it lost a bit of light quality in the Youtube format.
I believe the 2 illuminated cross sections may be a light reflection of the wall behind giving an illusion of 2 cross sections and the actual cross section is silhouetted in front of the light, these illuminated cross sections also appear thicker than the actual cross section that we see when the torch illuminates the chair it at the start. I really liked how you investigated this footage. I am curious to know, what was the source of the light after the investigator left. They really should have looked into that footage further, they way you did.

There are many unanswered questions, even those who believe it moves should ask where did the light that illuminates the chair come from, if the light was there it should be seen, be it on the floor or the wall, so where does it come from, it cant be the light source that moves because its there all the time and it moves before the illumination of the chair, there are a fewlittle things that just don't fit...thanks for your comments

Look at the back cross section of the legs after the chair moved to before. The legs are not behind the front cross-section from before (at 2:16) but when it moves the back cross-section of the legs are moved behind the front cross-section of the legs (2:18).

That's the way that it appears, it suggests the chair turns placing the back cross section just behind the front cross section, but if that happened either the left or right extremity of the chair should change and the front cross section X should become wider (if you look at a 3 dimensional object and rotate it, it becomes wider and narrower as it turns) but none of this happens, I know it is difficult to see the left side, it lost a bit of light quality in the Youtube format.

I believe the 2 illuminated cross sections may be a light reflection of the wall behind giving an illusion of 2 cross sections and the actual cross section is silhouetted in front of the light, these illuminated cross sections also appear thicker than the actual cross section that we see when the torch illuminates the chair it at the start. Thanks for your comments. I like good common sense rational debate on it, thank you.

Honestly, it's too dark to really tell what's going on. Why don't ghosts do more stuff in broad daylight?

Yes, dark, grainy and pixilated videos are the only type ghosts like to appear in.
And that's another problem with this video, the camera's field of view is poor and was never going to pick up much really.

I do see your point about the sound of the chair and the suspicious light sources. I noticed the shifting light, too, the first time I watched it.
