  • Fuck yes. There is nothing that pisses me off mote then ignorant people who think they can decide what other people do with their bodies. I was raped when I was 14. If I had gotten pregnant you bet your fucking ass I would have had an abortion. I am a free, intelligent, and innocent girl. I was a victim but not a martyr. And if any dumb fucker wants to tell me I'm wrong let them have a dick shoved into them while they cry and scream for help that will never come. Let them cry them selves to sle

  • I love her.

  • This woman is my hero.

  • this is why I hate people

  • Get off!!! You friggin rock!!!

  • the last stanza gave me goosebumps.

  • badass

  • this is the epitome of art, right here. thank you so much for sharing your passion with us - i'm so glad i found it!

  • Dear Rick Perry,

  • @dale28100 I think my position is pretty clear if you listen again. I am not sure what any of your commentary means.

  • @dale28100 sounded perfectly clear to me - she is not against abortions, she's against bald headed white men in office telling her and other women what they can and cannot do with their bodies while they're funding and encouraging wars that are killing other womens' babies.

  • @dale28100 Wow. What does that mean?!

  • I love her voice. She is so powerful.

  • OMG chills!!!!

  • Fantastic work and some SHIT to think about!

  • um... i didnt really understand this poem,

is she with or against abortion?

  • @xinoucho She is with CHOICE. Which leaves the option of abortion open to any woman who feels like that is the best option for her.

  • I get chills every time I see this...and the tears just well up in my eyes...so powerful... <3

Thank you for using your amazing voice and talent for good. Thank you for helping us get back our voice.

  • Absolutely brilliant. Chills for days.

  • Who could possible dislike this video/poem, Honestly? She said it all. If you don't want to be a scumbag boy who doesn't father his own children, then just don't be a horny scumbag in the first place. I can't believe how many people are out there who can't think past the end of their penis.

  • I actually have cold chills from listening to this. I have nothing intelligent I can even say, because it's all been said for me. Thank you.

  • @TheMusicismysanity I have chills too!!

  • @TheMusicismysanity This left me with my mouth hanging open and chills everywhere. My first language isn't English, so there are some parts that I didn't catch. Or that I didn't fully understand, in a way that a English speaker would. But I got chills, man, and in the end, I cried. If for me it was like that, I wonder how amazing it is for people who can fully understand the beauty of what she's saying. I have nothing else to say, too.

  • i love this poem...

  • BRAVO!!! Women Deserve Better!!!!

  • BRAVO!!! Womeen Deserve Better!!!!

  • I'm 19 and a college student, I need to decide when I want to have a baby. If I happen to get pregnant due to a condom breaking for example, there is no way for me to support a child. I am already attending a university which I will spend the next 10+ years of my life trying to pay off the student loans. I'm an adult but I cannot support myself and my own life/education let alone a child's. Let me have my choice and support me.

  • Speechless. I'm crying. Thank you so much for this.

  • I have no words. I thought I would have something intelligent to say about how amazing this is. But there is absolutely nothing I could say without sounding like an idiot next to this poem. So I'll just say wow, and hell yes, and thank you.

  • this is just...perfect.

  • Oh my..

  • This is so perfect, you are amazing <3

Although it would be nice if it was more inclusive of uterus-owning men, they also deserve choice.

  • This is the single most amazing thing I've seen all day. My heart is pounding and I want to know this wonderful woman.

  • Where the hell is the love button? Thank you so much for writing this for all of us women. Beautifully put my love!

  • This is what really got my into slam poetry about 6 months ago and I happened to find it again while going through some poems. I just want to say thank you for sharing this!

  • @zebracactusshark

    Wow... you're intelligent.

  • Wonderful poem. I'm planning on showing it to my daughters. Thank you for putting it up on youtube.

  • This is so beautiful and inspiring. I wish I had more words to say. I've listened to it 4 times and have gotten chills each time. Thank you for stepping up and standing for WOMEN instead of pushing them down and telling them to deal with it.

  • This is beautiful and brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.

  • Holy shit. That is all.

  • One can have conservative morals without believing our generations must be kept in the dark about safe sex and that contraceptives must not be made widely available, and good for her for pointing this out. This is a beautiful piece, and I think there is no counter for any of her poignant words.

  • I love her raw emotion, this is the elephant in the room, and she chose to point it out. Brave.

  • girl you got some burning fire in you and spoke flames.

  • I've seen this at least 10 times, and I can't even make it halfway through without crying. This woman says it all far more eloquently than I'm sure alot of pro-choicers could. My favourite piece of slam poetry of all time... this is why we fight.

  • Thank you for writing and sharing this. It's amazing to me how hard people who are 'pro-life' will fight and fight to force a woman to undergo the potentially fatal state of pregnancy and childbirth, but refuse to assist said woman, and the resulting child afterwards.

That's not pro-life. That's pro-my-morals-mean-more-than-your-freedom. If they were truly 'pro-life' they would work harder to help these people actually LIVE.

  • @spaceprincess18 There are many people who are pro life that do all they can to help young pregnant women/young mothers. My grandma volunteers for an organization that does just that 5 days a week.

  • absolutely beautiful. thank you so much for this.

  • @Famijoly -Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I believe our core disagreement is in whether our not women's voice are silenced in this society. I believe based on historical evidence that they absolutely have been. I also agree that paternal rights as it relates to parenting need to be better navigated and are often unfair to fathers. But this poem is not about paternal rights, it is about government legislation of women's bodies. Women deserve autonomy over our bodies.

  • @soniekisses "absolutely have been." Yes, but not now, not when, for example, you yourself can make a youtube video of a profanity-laced poem demanding that something you already have -- voice and choice -- be somehow "given back" to you. Women have autonomony over their own bodies. Wait. There is one exception: the woman who is still inside of her mother. In that case, one woman (mother) has autonomony over her body and over another woman's body. Unborn women deserve better. No doubt!

  • @Famijoly The voices of women are still being silenced today. The fact that people in charge of legislation are still debating over the legality of abortion is a perfect example of this. And, furthermore, 'women' do not physically exist inside the body of a mother. Fetuses do, but women don't. I suggest that you learn the difference between the fetus and a woman as soon as possible.

  • @CartmanAndClarkRock Again, obviously not your voice. I am thankful to God that your mother chose to give birth to you. You were a human being, in the image and likeness of God, from the first moment of your conception. Even though your mother could have rubbed you out, she didn't. And both she and you and the rest of us are better off because of that. A human fetus is a human being. God bless you and keep you.

  • @soniekisses Women deserve boogie the great

  • @Famijoly shut up.

  • @lginthemaking Talk about wanting to silence someone! But thank you for reading my posts. God bless you and keep you.

  • @Famijoly if you want to preach about abortion and political and women's rights in a discouraging way, considering what the true meaning of the poem is, go elsewhere. you can have your opinion, but enough is enough. people clearly disagree.

  • @lginthemaking Yes, and you must be a person in order to disagree. I thank God you are ALIVE, post-womb, in order to read my posts and then publish your opinion that you disagree with what I said. God bless you and keep you.

  • @Famijoly Take your passive-aggressive religious crap elsewhere. You're ignorance makes me nauseous. It's NOT your body, your life, OR your decision. You can't even imagine what having an abortion is like, or the decision to have one. What if the girl was a rape victim? What if she'd been sexually abused, and wound up pregnant? What is she would die if she gave birth? What if the child would die after a few months of unbelievable suffering? Would she still be a murderer to you?

  • @Famijoly Women don't fucking CHOOSE to get raped. What's your patriarchal religion doing to stop rape culture exactly? Cos it ain't working.

  • @TungstenV Abortion does not stop the rape culture. In the face of conception resulting from the heinous act of rape, abortion piles murder of an innocent child on top of the sexual assault of a non-consenting woman. Killing the child, whose only "crime" is being called into existence, will not undo the rape. God bless you and keep you.

  • @Famijoly Fuck you.

  • @TungstenV No thanks, I have other plans. God bless you and keep you.

  • @Famijoly Gods don't exist, dude.

  • @TungstenV You are right. Gods don't exist. Only God. God bless you and keep you.

  • @Famijoly So back to the question you deflected with the standard dose of Eve-shaming; what is your Patriarchal Religion doing to stop rape culture?

  • the last thirty seconds brought tears to my eyes. you are fabulous.

  • You make my heart sing.

  • Amazing! I felt the passion via internet, that shows a lot! Great expression, Great job!! -Cheers

  • This is perfect, as are you and your thoughts and ideas... Wow. This is what I feel on the subject and never had the ability to say myself. Everyone should see this video.

  • this is fucking amazing.

  • women all around the world say thank u for this bc i know i do

  • This is the most amazing poem and performance. I got chills and it brought tears to my eyes. All I can say is "WOW!!" You are so talented on so spot on. Thank you for sharing this!! Ever thought about running for office, I'd vote for you :)

  • love this poem and you girl

  • Amazing.

  • I get chills every time I watch this.

  • Amazing and truly inspiring <3

  • wow this was amazing.

  • I'm crying right now. This is so powerful and there is so much truth in it. Thank you!

  • Comment removed

  • I legitimately started crying. Bravo!

  • She's right, because women DO deserve better. Stop commenting on skin color. It's not about that. We can't help it, so STOP being racist.

  • amazing(:

  • Amen sister

  • I never wrote poems about me. I never wrote poems about being ashamed, sneaking in and out of houses and letting men do as they would because hey, I'm hellbound anyway what's one more stroke of shame? I never wrote poems about all of that because I was alone that place. I'm not anymore. Thank you.

  • Get it, gurl! Love this so damn much. Cross-posting everywhere!

  • hi

  • Hey I agree! We do deserve better. I for one am dead bone tired of men getting still paid 20% better than women do for the same job. Look it up boy , for the person who dose not believe me. Women are still not treated the same. And so I want women to Stop being so fucking passive and stand up , protest for what they believe in and make a stand. I applaud this poetry woman! We need more like you

  • @foxinbox258 Well some very strong social changes will have to happen going the other direction as well. For one thing, that a man shoulld be expected to pay all the time. In a workplace, I've never seen it where men aren't expected to do menial labor tasks that are extra just because it's a woman who is his coworker & he's the male. Sorry don't scream victim without looking the other direction too. That's bullshit! I'm tired of hearing this victim garbage from so called feminists.

  • @PancakeSally There are sound reasons for those two examples you have given men earn more than women (who do the same job) and the average male is naturally stronger than the average female (due to men being the hunters and so needing more muscle and women needing more fat for child-bearing.) And I am tired of being treated than less than for being female, of being unsafe in my home (where most rapes occur,)

  • @PancakeSally of being part of a group that makes up 51% of the worlds population that is considered a minority group as the issues are the same, of the fact that the world thinks that they can weight in on medical

  • @PancakeSally decisions I may one day have to make, that I am less likely than a man with the same qualifications as me to get hired and that when I do get hired I will earn less than him, and I am tired of seeing other women complain about the feminist movement in public forums when they would not be able to do so if it were not for the ongoing feminist movement.

  • @PancakeSally i dont like that women expect men to pay all the time, its not right. And as far as the victim argument im not screaming it, i was simply applauding the video. Women are passive its a fact, you even seem to agree when you say that women make men do "menial labor tasks" because they are indeed the female. the social changes that you mention, well c'mon duh they need to be made. and one way to make it happen is for ppl to see this video and start thinking about things.

  • You took me AWAY. I had to hold my heart in. It's a perfect thing. Thank you.

  • Not enough words available to me to give your poetry the praise I feel. Your work is incredible and your words ring clear and true. Your performance was wonderful and I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to see and hear it. Thank you a million times. Thank you.

  • Sonya Renee thank you!! Thank you for being the voice, for being the one, to represent! Thank you, for being in our corner! I salute you!

  • This is very moving and powerful.

  • Wow! This is the same argument I've been having with pro-lifers for years. If you're going to be pro-life before a child is born, then be pro-life throughout the child's ENTIRE LIFE! I'm not pro or anti, I believe it's an individual's choice and only God can judge.

  • you are so amazing.

  • lovelovelovelove x 1,000,000 it.

  • wow this was amazing!! i was just browsing not really expecting to find much but you have left me speechless with all your words flowing so freely and your powerful voice! AMAZING! :)

  • I appalud you! I agree with every little thing you said. I love the emotion you had behind it, it made your words come alive.

  • All I have to say is that you are totally right. You are a very inspirational spoken word artist and I apreaciate such beautiful and amazing words. Well done it takes alot to take my breath away.

  • Is there a transcription of that somewhere?

Being a non-native english speaker, there were some parts I couldn't follow....

  • You are a fantastic human being.

  • wow omg u are awesome

  • WOW. I'm not sure a poem has ever hit me in the face like that, I literally stopped breathing through the last half.

Beautiful, eloquent and heartbreaking in its honesty. Thank you for sharing this with the world.

  • Absolutely phenomenal, what passion and articulation! It's true, the people in office kill babies abroad while denying rights at home. What hypocrites! Keep on slammin!

  • This is an absolutely breathtaking piece of art. Thank you!

  • @nightfall200 I believe you misses the main points of my poem. The point of that line is that most of the legislature is white and male. Secondly, this poem was written long before Obama was in office. Thirdly, the point of the poem is that there are issues that deter women from choosing birth. We need to deal with those issues FIRST.

  • @soniekisses Ma'am, I love you. You are now officially my hero.

  • @nightfall200

    #1. This was 2006.

#2. One black man at the top doesn't equal out 3000+ years of old white rich men.

#3. Other than that, you're correct. This war needs to end and Libya.

  • @AWonderVenus There wasn't 3000+ years of old white rich slave owners in America which I believe I was talking about in my first comment. The first colonists only first arrived in the 1600's and even then they didn't have any slaves. It wasn't until the dutch started selling colonists slaves (which they did in fact treat as indentured servants the first time around) that this whole mess began. And any ways it was the African tribe leaders that sold off their own to the white European merchants.

  • Oh and I know people will probably hate on me because of this comment but really why do people believe that its to governments job to give money out to everyone who can't take care of themselves, to people who aren't responsible with their own bodies? Since when did our country turn into a socialist country, taxing those who do have a descent job and make decent money but work like crazy to get it only to have their pay check cut in half and given to those of you who believe woman deserve better

  • @nightfall200 Your are on a GlennBeckian rant of astronomical proportion. This poem clearly makes you feel guilty, and you resent that. This poem is ultimately about: Choice and Arrogance. The point is the very same people who would rob women of choice would also denying them of help. You can't force women to have babies and then make her jump through hoops for Daddy's share. You can't restrict information about birth control and expect it to be used effectively. You can't dictate these choices.

  • @nightfall200 There were rich white people running the show BEFORE the United States. Did you re-read your own comment? You said nothing about slavery, or any of that. Regardless, if your argument is that there has only been the entire history of the United States that is in question, remind yourself that President Obama was elected less than three years ago. One black man at the top doesn't cancel out the 392 years since the first slave ship hit the colonies. Read some damn history, please.

  • @AWonderVenus I did re-read my comment and I did talk about slavery. I also was only talking about American History not about anything that happened before that. And in regards to or other comment, how am i supposed to feel guilty for something that happened hundreds of years ago; I wasn't even ALIVE when it happened. Just because I'm white is that supposed to mean I'm also responsible for what these white rich slave owners did? And as for woman when did I say they shouldn't make their own....

  • choices. I don't know why you're accusing me of not allowing woman to have the choice to have kids or not because it's ultimately their choice in the end. If they know they can't take care of it they then should have used birth control, used a condom, or even give it up for adoption; abortion is also an option. Look I'm not trying to be cold hearted or anything but like I said before because these woman have babies that they can't take care of the government winds up giving them money for hard

  • @PaintingHeartsBLACK working people

  • @PaintingHeartsBLACK OH MY GOD. What are you TALKING about? Did you listen to this poem? You don't even know what you are saying. Also, did you not notice that I was replying to nighfall, not you. "so are you saying its just the old white bald men who start wars and kill babies? umm I think you should do a double take and take a look at who our president is now, and tell me who it is that is sending OUR BABIES to Libya and keeping OUR BABIES in Iraq when he's promised us to bring them home."

  • @AWonderVenus OK. Whatever. I'm done fucking arguing with you.

  • @nightfall200 It's about time, half-wit.

  • Effective, moving and quite brilliant

  • If women can choose not to birth a baby they don't want, why can't men choose not to have to pay for a baby they don't want? Isn't that a double standard?

  • She gave me chills!

  • 20 seconds in and i already have shivers. amazing poem and amazing delivery

  • Wow. You're beautiful.

  • Not being familiar with your work I was expecting this to go a different way at first, and it was a pleasent surprise to listen to the entire thing as I realised you were veering off into a message that was both heartfelt but also made a lot of sense. Your point is clear and so easy to agree with. The last line is extremely effective, love it.

  • If people refuse to see this as a women's issue, then they should recognize that children deserve parents who plan for parenthood and have enough resources to raise them with shelter, food, and personal security. It is insanity, delusion, and nearly unimaginable to me that reproductive rights are a question at all.

  • I wanted to just tell you thank you. I have spread this as mush as I could around Facebook. You are an inspiration.

  • Holy shit! Your passion was incredibly moving in this performance. Thank you for this, Sonya. :)

  • Thank you for writing this. Thank you for performing this. And most of all thank you for sharing this.

  • This was awesome! It was very moving, I found myself clapping as she finished. Women deserve better!

  • That last line. Man, that was awesome. !!!

  • @soniekisses. Thank you so, so much for this. I, too, was astounded to find that 'Women Deserve Better' was who they are...checked out their website and wanted to gag.

  • Forced pregnancy is the equivalent of slavery. No one else has any business in my uterus, just as a man's sperm is his own business. Don't see anyone trying to control THAT, do you?

  • Sonya, I LOVE your passion, heart and mind! Thank you for posting this....

  • Thank you from the depths of my heart - for your strong & beautiful heart, mind & VOICE!

  • I'd love to be able to watch this, unfortunately there is no transcript or CC for me to do so.

  • @CubanCoccinelleRose email me at sonyarenee@gmail.com to get a transcript of the poem

  • I LOVE THIS. This is so beautiful, thank you for these beautiful words!

  • This is some powerful, incredible stuff. Thank you for putting into words how I feel when confronted with anti-choice propaganda.

  • Quite the fervent poem. It brought goosebumps.

  • @n4kma You are invited to have a discussion in mutual respect. If you are open to that then fine. I like dialogue but I am clear insults and demeaning communication doesn't further understanding. As for my poem, I have not stereotyped anyone. The poem is a specific response to an ad campaign. I happen to know some pretty awesome people who are anti abortion. These people also understand that social, financial and political issues should be addressed FIRST before legislating women's lives.

  • Lady, your video is full of crap! There are many pro-lifers out there who assist girls/women in crisis pregnancies & there are many pro-lifers who are not opposed to contraception, but are opposed to abortion (the killing of innocent unborn human beings). Don't stereotype people. The solution to a crisis pregnancy is to eliminate the CRISIS, not the CHILD!

  • @n4kma

its not about necessarily supporting abortion. she is simply stating that it is pretty lame when the government tries to make policies that impact a woman's choice to abort they often also try to limit the spending towards sexual education cheap birth control options. thankfully i grew up in a system that provided sex education from 6th -11th grade. my friend did not. she did not even learn abstinance only sex education. that is the crime of the crisis. hypocrisy.

  • PREACH.

  • Preach, girl preach!!

  • Phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal.

  • Hell yes. Who knows how to draw? This needs to be turned into a Dr. Seuss book like YESTERDAY

  • This. This is a really fantastic piece. I think the paradox of anti-abortion and anti-sex ed is astonishing. I don't understand how people are even capable of thinking that less sexual education will somehow help prevent teen pregnancy. If we don't teach them, they'll teach themselves, and we see the results of that every day.

  • I've watched this at least 10 times and it still gives me chills. THANK YOU for speaking the truth!

  • I have no words to describe this. Absolutely amazing and spot-on with regards to the very real, very scary reality of having a uterus in a culture that delights in shaming those in possession of one. Amazing work. <3

  • omg I ADORE this woman!

    I have goosebumps, incredible.

  • You rock! Thank you for speaking up! The part about balding middle-aged men waging wars to kill other people's babies- fuck yes!

  • @safewaysecurity Is it crying to want better for yourself and your future children?

  • @soniekisses You are absolutely amazing!

  • @soniekisses I agree that every one is vulnerable to perspective. Another thing I know is that I don't stand a high chance of convincing anyone by comments, but I will say this anyway, if racism is such a sin(and it is) why do we say that fetuses aren't people even though they have a heartbeat at 3 weeks, and a little later hands and feet, how can you define a point when they become a person? That's what I don't understand. I think women should be given all respect, but its not just about them

  • This was beautiful in every way. The anger, the pain, and the frustration this conveys still awes me and leaves me speechless. I wish that everyone could see this and have enough courage to speak out like this.

  • @jennykafe3 I think that is one perspective. And procreation in a result of sex but I do no believe and lots of others do not believe that it is the only purpose of sex. I am not sure who "all these women" are but I as the author of the piece in the video am not mad at pregnancy. I am mad at policies that seek to control women's reproductive choices while limiting the options that make parenting a desired outcome of sex.

  • @jennykafe3 fail.

  • @jennykafe3 then what's the point of the clitoris then?

  • @jennykafe3 What about those who are raped? ALL sex is wanted?

  • This was awesome I had to see it like 3 times :D

  • OMG UNFUCKED BUNCH!
