Yes, spinning (one of the behaviors they call ") is a sign. Keep in mind, though, a certain amount of it is normal for any kid. It is that completely zoned out, excessive repetitive behavior you wanna look out for.
@MimiJackson1 is this a common sign of autism? the little boy I've been babysitting several days a week for a year now does this, and only this, with toys with wheels. he's shown other signs, but we've never thought to mention the wheel spinning to the doctor.
Please check out a great Children's book about Autism, PDD and ADHD called 'Why Is He Different?' (Please spread the word about this unique book, tell your friends and tell me what you think about it. Big thanks!!). You can preview it on youtube profile called Monalisaknew. Just copy and paste the following sentence in youtube search window: 'Why Is He Different? (Autism Book)'
You can also buy this book on AthsePublishing(dot)com. Thank You !!
As an update - Aaron is almost three now, and spinning has just about stopped entirely. He does very little stimming of any kind nowadays. I attribute it to his intense therapy schedule, and a gluten-free diet.
our son silas does this to....your little one is precious! thanks for posting....Silas is still in the process of being diagnosed...i have a video on here of silas spinning the wheel of his jeep to..

Three years later, Aaron is a totally different kid. ABA, Physical therapy, OT, Speech - he will go to an integrated kindergarten in the fall of '10!
