  • Robert Morse doens't believe in 1 person

  • wow. everything about that was terrible. i'm not typically one to prefer newer versions of things, but radcliffe blew morse out of the water. radcliffe was energetic in a good way while morse's energy simply appears retarded. also i didn't feel like radcliffe was gonna eat me the whole time :P

  • thumbs up if Robert Morse reminds you of a singing Jim Carrey

  • Would anyone else like to see Matthew Broderick play this role?

  • @perunaismymascot he has

  • It's a secret dream of mine to someday play the role of J Pierpont Finch someday and perform this number on a broadway stage. To bad I'm a girl :(

  • @JessClare432 I have ALWAYS felt this way too!!!

  • I Robert Morse gives the character more life and feeling!

  • Guys that are saying Dan is better well alot of people say the original is the best well Robert Morse is the original cast member of How to succeed in business.

  • That's funny, he said Seeker and I noticed and thought it was funny but no one said anything and I thought I was the only one who got it. xD

I went for DanRad, but stayed because the play was excellent.

  • Everyone in the theater flipped out when he said "Seeker" and I wanted to throw things. This is my fave part, and everyone was completely blindsided by it being Dan Rad. They missed out on complete genius because of the word "Seeker". Like, really?! I wuv you HP fans, but please respect us How To Succeed In Business Fans...

  • Mmmm.. Sexy ;)

  • Mmmm.. Sexy ;)

  • I liked Dan better. So much better. This guy acts like he's on drugs. He has a good singing voice... but Dan has this Finch-like poise.

  • Bertram Cooper! Mad Men! Did he resign out of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce? Can't tell really cos he never showed up after the SCDP breakdown.

  • You can't beat this original performance..Thanks for your rendition of this classic tune..Mr.Morse.

  • The more I watch this movie, the more I appreciate what Morse does for his role. I enjoyed Radcliffe and I thought he did a really decent job in his performance, but during this song, he didn't really make it funny. He tried a deeper approach and lacked a childish charm. I'm not sure if either is better than the other, but they definitely took their parts in different directions.

  • I'm with you, SailingMoominmama! I saw Daniel Radcliffe a few weeks ago, and neither he nor Matthew Broderick before him, can hold a candle to Robert Morse! He's a brilliant comedian, and moves so seamlessly from the dialogue to the musical numbers. He is so in the moment - so spontaneous.

Radcliffe, while he has a sweet voice, seemed very self conscious to me.

    J. Pierpont Finch will always belong to Robert Morse (like Stanley Kowalski belongs to Brando).

  • This video is good, but the acting is a little too much and fake. Just saw Daniel Radcliff do it on Broadway and he was amazing a believable.

  • Wow, read the intro and am I old. To me it will ALWAYS be Robert Morse, star of "how to Succeed in Business without Really Trying and current supporting cast member of Mad Men.

  • This is one of those rare adaptations of a musical that actually has the energy of a stage production... Morse definitely wasn't inhibited by the cameras... !!! Ironically, a lot of musicals these days have actors who act like they've never played in front of live audiences before and think they're acting in front of a camera. :-/

  • Lol tiger walk win

I love him he's adorable and talented

  • @dorkydancer11

YES!!!!!! I'd wipe by savings account clean just to go see that!

  • If Kent Boyd from So You Think You Can Dance could sing, he'd be a perfect fit for this role.

  • @TennesseClarks Kent as Finch and Jess from this season as Bud Frump! :D

  • Those eyes. He looks like a poster boy for Coffee Addicts Anonymous.

  • The Radcliffe version will sell it's tickets to his fans, but NYC knows better than to buy into these movie star vehicles. Morse is like a musical theatre genius. Just watch ALL the stuff his character does in this scene to be funny, while singing his heart out in the executive washroom.

  • @SailingMoominmama first of all, he is singing his heart out to a pre-recorded track. and have you seen mr. radcliffe? because i have, and i can see personally that it was an exceptional performance. he can sing, dance, act, and be utterly hilarious. dont put down mr. radcliffe just because he comes from a movie background. thats the problem with obsessive musical fans. they dont give any respect to other forms of acting. shame.

  • @megan132 Morse originated the role on Broadway, so he did this live too, that's why he received such acclaim and a Tony Award. I have nothing against movie stars doing Broadway, if they're actually good for the role and good on the stage. See the completely amazing Hugh Jackman, for example.

  • @SailingMoominmama - Perfectly stated. Next to Morse, Radcliffe isn't even a decent college.

  • @SailingMoominmama While I agree that Radcliffe was mainly chosen for his star power, I have to say that he was truly a great lead in this revival and one of the better ones in a long time. He also sang his heart out with great emotion. Especially on his last day.

  • Always loved his voice. He is the original, but I hope to see Radcliff.

  • Thank God for this. I had my head in my hands listening to the not-singer & unconvincing Daniel Radcliffe (net worth @ $72M) sing this last Saturday.

So I came back home and listened to this to rediscover why the song was such a hit and Morse himself.

  • @7855waldo

    Hi,

I may be likely to agree with you after seeing this production next month.

The point is, this is my very favorite musical of all time so I make a custom of seeing it every time possible.

3 1/2 decades ago when I was a drama and vocal student I always used "I Believe In You" as an audition song.

I didn't win every tryout, but it's an ideal tune for a baritone with a good range, especially if he can ace the attack at the end of the bridge.

Thanks and hope all is well.

  • grin of impetuous youth!

  • Yes WCS, kazoos at the ready in the reeds and brass, if I recall correctly.

  • I think in the live show the orchestra has to play kazoos during the shaving. A great moment for the pit.

  • @WorldCupSeoul Yes they do! We're doing it at my High School. :)

  • @WorldCupSeoul It's true. I played reeds in the pit for a community production, and we all got kazoos. Very clever.

  • Nice contact juggling at 1:07.

    OMG 1:57 Hilarious!

  • Ah, thank you for a nice volumed audio, better than the other posting. Hope this gets lots of views. I would have liked the lead-up which is important to the whole feel of this.
