that last touch was a bit flashy but well executed. if you are going to go for that attack in epee you better be damn sure you take your opponent's blade first, otherwise, you are giving away a touch
Love the comment "Showoff" haha, so true, but both are just amazing fencers. Tagliariol just had Jeannet in his pocket: halfstep, halfstep, feint, etc. Beautiful bout!
Was it just me or were there almost no doubles in this match? I thats a testament to the amount of good thought that these guys put into their points...
This is my favorite fencing video on youtube. I have watched it more than once, and especially love the commentary. I LOL'd when you put in "Why thanks for the gift monsieur."
That last touch was such a showoff move.... haha :D
This is an awesome commentary by the way.
I would just like to point out that I think the best fencing occurs in the semifinals and table of eight. That's probably because they don't feel the stress 1st place. Like here, I felt Jeannet anticipates moves a lot more than usual, and Tagliariol took advantage. Tagliariol was ahead and therefore had a clearer, and calmer, head.
i cant speak french and i certainly cant lip-read it but if he said something nasty or obscene then most definitely. at this level you probably wont see that happen very often but it happens occasionally
@CyrusofChaos i think he said merde.. the rule in FIE is that you can card for swearing only if you, as the referee, understand the language in which the fencer has sworn.
@CyrusofChaos He screams *merde!* which literally means shit, although more often it would be translated as something among the lines of damn, darn, even fuck.
@CyrusofChaos From my limited knowledge of French duo-syllabic swear words I think he said 'putain' or something similar. However, swearing in French as with other southern european languages is considered nowhere near as vulgar or obscene as in English (unless it's actually directed at someone). I don't think Jeannet is being abusive towards anyone - it's roughly the equivalent of saying 'damn it' in English or similar.
@CyrusofChaos He appears to have said "merde" which is the French equivalent of "shit" in the english language, and if I'm not mistaken its not a yellow card unless its directed at your opponent or if he says it during the bout
that last touch is really awesome! also, the touch #14 in favor of Tagliariol is impossibly fast! anyone can think that that action was for a simultaneous touch! amazing match however, Jeannet was a really dangerous oponnent

Ooo... that is true....
A lot of times important touches goes to the fencer that was thinking clearly and not frustrated.

Actually, scratch that, he might have said 'merde' instead. Same applies though.

Oh, the 15th touch by Tagliariol, he did a 5th to parry Jeunet's blade and then a vibratto, right?

@ProyectMooneJazzers it is really hard to see what line he took it in. it may have been 5, i have no way of knowing
