This guy was the best "picker" ever until Pat Matheny came along. Look for his album "Moonlight in Vermont" , title song is his signature piece but also on the album, Jaguar is great.
Yes, Chet held him in the highest esteem. He also used to send him guitar transitions for Johnny to 'tune up'. Js is a genius. I had the privilege to speak to the late, great Chuck Wayne in NYC many years ago and he had pretty much the same opinion of Johnny. Imagine those endorsements!
