About block lists. What happens if I block my ISP ex. Comcast or Road Runner from tracking me. I've only read these circular "don't bother asking questions" with the only answer being "it's not recommended". It's like on list sites I went to they had a FIRST RULE OF FIGHT CLUB attitude about the question.

I mean, If I block my ISP trackers, wouldn't that hide my use of P2P clients to them? Wouldn't that stop throttling? Or would there be MUCH MORE NEGATIVE consequences of doing this IDK yet?

@guinlyone. Just turn it off when you are NOT downloading something. It dosnt need to be running ALL the time. If you are seeding something then also have it running thats it. It may have blocked google for the same reasons it blocks sony. Just disable it when you arent downloading. Problem fixed.

These programs prevent people on the list from downloading from you (and you from downloading from those on the list) - they have nothing to do with blocking the RIAA from finding out who's sharing files.

its like a firewall that blacklists the IP addresses of known investigative agencies. A hole in the strategy is that agencies can hire others to scan for them., and they might not be blacklisted.

So, you get a incoming connection to your limewire app from Copyright Lawsuites RUs, this program matches their IP to the list and refuses the connection. Simple as that.

How effective is it? Depends.I used to use it and got a couple of notices. Then stopped using it and haven't gotten any.

If the program doesn't open for you, its your firewall its blocking the program since peerguardian acts as a quasi firewall itself. 1. go to task manager 2 click processes tab 3 find pge.exe and click end process, that will allow you to uninstall the program. After you uninstall go to program files find peerguardian and delete the folder. then shut down your firewall or use another one like Symantec. then reinstall PG

All this program is is a simplified firewall with a list of known ip addresses that are associated with anti-p2p, government as well as spyware organizations. It is not guaranteed protection as these organizations can and do get new ips but it is still better than nothing.

Again, the government doesn't go chasing pirates, private organizations like the RIAA and third party companies they hire like MediaSentry do. It is their IPs that PG blocks, government ips are just optional. It's better than not using anything and proxies are slow. There are other ways of getting software without having to need proxies or firewalls.

Other ways of getting software there are, just stay away from most new release torrents like cams of new films or new release game torrents and you should be alright. Usenext/ftp ftw.. don't trust rapidshare they pass your IP on.

Your safest bet is FTP's or usenet/usenext

Torrents are the most dangerous although there's a 99.999% chance that your ISP doesn't care if you download from torrents. Megaupload and rapidshare are 99% safe as well although if your uploading lots of illegal material there then there's a chance the police might come a knocking (very low chance though, your ISP's right is to keep you anonymous)

so yeah, download what ever you like. Just stay away from downloading newly released movies til a week

if you have vista make a vid on how to use it on vista....... you need to disable windows defender. disable uac and start task manager before you start peer guardian. also disable peer guardian before you close it, it will start disabled and simply enable it when you open it. one more thing you cant have utorrent open when you use it dont know about azureus
