Another one of this 16mm copies for this "Scopitone" music boxes... Someone in that time had the idea: Music must be heard and sawn! (Today MTV does the same) Not an invention of the 80ies!!
Dig that crazy chick Daddy-O!! Jayne Manfield hair, Peggy Lee attitude, and a pop sounding voice bordering on Patsy Cline! It's the wiggiest! Why this woman is not more widely known is beyond me. What great moves, and the backup dancers are like... too much! Wowsville, man!
@TheEldoradoKid 2 more different ladies never existed, and it never even occurred to me, but you are right... there is a distinct similarity between the voices of Patsy Cline and Jane. You have a good ear.
@defundthewar Yeah! I appreciate the compliment!, no but seriously pull out Patsy Clines Greatest Hits and queue up a little ditty with the Nashville Strings backing her up. Then listen to her low and mid-range tonal qualities. Her and Jane would be able to pull off a great duet of similar sounding voices, and sound kind of like the female Everly Brothers! Now imagine Jane with a brunette beehive hairdoo singing with Patsy on the Ed Sullivan show!..Separated at birth!? Oy!, they would be a hit!
Jane Morgan was one of the top female singers of the '50's and '60's...She performed for UNICEF on Dec. 10, 09...go to Google and type in JANE MORGAN/UNICEF and she how super she looks today!!!
No me canso de escuchar a la linda Jane Morgan en esta canción Cest si bon.. Una melodía cantada por quien el famoso cantante colombiano Alfonso Alvarez Corradine dijera una vez: " Es la voz de un ángel del cielo "
Mothra alights when kitsch is being discussed! What a delightful conversation! Many of you have raised excellent points and provided some fine history as well...just admit that this clip is awesome: Janie-Bird looks killer and Mothra is pleased! Down with "Governor" Sanford!
Re: the upskirt controversy - Scopitones were created to be shown in bars and taverns, vs. the general public (like MTV today). Therefore, some prove to be surprisingly racy for the time. If you want to watch a real mind blower, look at "Night Has a Thousand Eyes" by Bobby Vee - !!!! Good discussion tho...
I am crazy about this song, clip, and Morgan & keep going back to it as I do with some Doris Day vids... they are just very feel-good. I'm no arbiter of morality, and it's up to the viewer to decide whether things are offensive, risque, or not, but please let's not say that the showing of a lot of you-know-what was an accident or caused by the weight of the Scopitone camera. If you can raise the Eiffel Tower, you can lift a camera above these girls' pubic regions.
@defundthewar Of course it was not by accident...you just need to get over it. The camera was placed where it was because sex sells. Nothing is shown other than long legs in skirts. Most scopitones had the scopitone dancers in them and in some videos the dances are much much more risque than this one. This song and video are just fun. The song title even tells you that.
Crossed what line? the low camera angle was popular with Scopitones and tv recordings at the time, e.g. Top of the Pops in England. This was partly for practical reasons, the bulky cameras were difficult to move from floor level to stage level, and the type of shot marked it as "young and hip". Scopitones were made in France, it didn't offend the nation then, and it doesn't now. This sort of comment is often made by people from emerging democracies.
I am from an emerging democracy- the USA. When the issue of election fraud is fully addressed- there is nothing to prevent another coup as there was in 2000 from happening again- it might be a real democracy. That said, Wellveryinteresting & I were chatting about our hormone-driven Gov. Sanford, who kept saying he "crossed the line." It's a long story and not everybody will get it. Many Scope videos were meant to tittilate; it you can't see that you are impossibly naive.
Duringthe early 1060s Allen Sherman did a hilarious parody of this song titled I SEE BONES about a doctor describing what he saw in an X-Ray.☺
