in everyday speech you can say it. Still how should I say it; a native speaker means: "weil wir jetzt den Wodka brauchen" even if he says it other way. You can hear it by the pauses in the speach, sort of. This is kind of like he would mix two different sentences, like he would "change" in the middle of the sentence from one way to say it to the other. So it's save for you to keep to the proper version.

probieren and versuchen are both words for "to try" but he uses it a slightly wrong, because "probieren" is more in the sense of "to sample/taste sth." and "versuchen" is more like to take an effort on sth.

But then again in some regions it is used vice versa and it is nothing to worry about.
