Would it be fair to say those who are easily influenced by ads which promote weight loss and a 'perfect body' are least happy about what they look like? Those ads are targetted at them imo, rather than 'fat' people who are happy with the way they are.
Wow thanks for the vid! I'm the same way, I like food too much! It's sad to see the girls around me complain about their weight and go on diets when they're already really skinny...and I don't understand this obsession with losing weight, once you lose weight then what? You can't enjoy food...
I don't feel bad about eating food. I like eating food, I eat more than my friends someday mind you i'm the skinniest. I think this annoys them so I eat more.
i completely agree :) i am a 13 year-old girl and like you i feel am not fat nor skinny, but some of my friends are completely obsessed with how much they weigh up to the pint where for a while one of them basically ended up eating about 750 cal per day :/
I know women have body shape issues and in your vid you say the lads mags point blokes towards looking at boobs and bikinis - however there's also the pressure on chaps to have the 'Mens Health' look which, for most, is just unattainable!
I'm a Yank. One of our main issues is obesity. Americans just eat horrible foods. We have the crappiest diets. Over a 2 years period I lost over 40 pounds. I did it by getting a dietitian, eating well and exercising regular. But I am not a stick by any means (go look at my channel). I wish people would just eat right.
That said, I love women of all shapes & sizes. Curves rock . :)
I think people should be confident with themselves how they are. Being overly fat or skinny are both bad for you. Excercise and eat healthfully and you should be fine. I totally agree people obsess over their bodies too much. Lately I have too. I will eat whatever I want, generally pretty healthfully, but whenever I eat too much or not the right thing I'll feel guilty after words. trying to fix that.
One of my friends tried to be skinny because she was pressurised to get a "bikini bod" and now she is far too underweight, and has possibly made herself infertile. All to look good in a bikini, when really she was healthy and skinny enough all ready.
It's HARD to be a normal-sized girl because the media is screaming at you to lose weight and show skin and the boys' magazines are telling them that girls are only attractive when they look like starving children in impoverished countries....only with huge boobs. You tell 'em Laura!
It's like you took the words right out of my mind. I actually made a collage on the exact thing you mentioned about magazines. I was quite ashamed to be standing at the counter with these magazines in hand, constantly thinking, "Don't judge me. Don't judge me. I swear, all I want to do is make a point. Stop SMIRKING!"
Anyway, off to watch more of your amazing videos. Ta.
I think you're totally right on when it comes to not feeling guilty about eating. But not all food is created equal. The unfortunate reality is that so much of what we deem to be "food" is highly processed, super-fatty/sugary, liver and kidney killing, franken-food. Being fit is just as much about the quality of the food you eat as it is about the quantity. If we were all eating balanced meals and things that we prepare from nature, there wouldn't be a 2/3 obesity rate in the western world.
I think that we need to eat as much good food as we like. Bread, vegetables, fruit, homemade cakes, cheese, milk, whatever really. We just need balance. I just try not to eat too much shop-made confectionery.
i agree with you - i just love food but i'm not fat or skinny BUT i REALLY don't like seeing fat people in bikini's sooo there's definitely a point at which you gotta say no to the third helping xD
I totally agree with you that the biggest problem is magazines and the media.I know that i have put on weight recently, but i have never been fat before (not that i am now), but at a size 12/14 I already know i feel uncomfortable in a bikini.Unfortunately i dont have much will power to do anything about it, but i think its crap that people like myself,(who was quite slim)should be made to feel bad about the way we look. There will always be someone slimmer and prettier out there,so love yourself!
I eat whatever I want all the time and I'm healthy and slim. I'm a vegeterian so that's what makes me slim but I think that eating what you want gives you a better mentality. A lot of other women seem to think that if they punish themselves by never eating things they want then they will feel happy. Maybe if they just accepted that it's Okay to eat some chocolate and that you'll look great when you feel great, they will be happier and healthier!
i don't get why some are really angry with fat people beacuse they don't lose some weight. i've heard a lot of people saying that it's so easy and they are so much happier without the weight and that everybody should do it and if you don't then you're an idiot. but can't just bigger people be happy just as they are? why do you have to be skinny to live a good life?
Yep, totally with you on this. Drives me nuts as well. Even the gay magazines are like this with men. How to get the abs you've "always wanted" and the biceps and everything else which is deemed attractive. If you can see his veins through his skin, that is NOT sexy. Ewwww.
It's a vicious cycle, women are told they are ugly thus they buy magazines telling them how to be "pretty" (at least in the definition of pretty as established by that particular magazine).
i was thinking i was looking a bit fat so i ate vaguely healthy for 3 weeks and lost half a stone
it was incredibly easy
in response to your question i think if people are fat and they want to lose weight that's a good thing but it annoys me when skinny girls think they're fat and are constantly trying to lose weight
I agree, the world has gone a bit crazy. Expectations are set and never achieved leaving many people in a state of depressive-ness. In a way, alot that feminists have achieved has been undone, because too many women focus too much on body image, and let it get them down. I hope that makes some sense. Well done Laura.
Laura, I have to agree and disagree with you. It is unfortunate that people think they have to look like -blank- to be attractive. The truth is though that most guys (sadly myself as well) will find girls more attractive that are skinnier. Unfortunate, yes. But it is what it is. That is only part of it though. An individual can overcome that by acting in a self confident manner and showing that their figure doesn't bother them. As long as you are confident in yourself people will like it
Laura you are my favorite! I think it's so ridiculous how women eat up all this crash diet crap! Be healthy, sure, but life is just not worth living if you're hungry all the time and food should be something to enjoy and enrich your life. Also, why is thin the only thing we perceive as beautiful? I am a pretty big girl, but I think I look pretty damn good! Maybe it's just because I'm well-fed and happy about it!
I agree with you, I could name you quite some girls I'm personally met that I found very good looking that told me they're on a diet trying to lose weight. I don't know what to say to them anymore really.
i defo don't think about my image at all! mayb its because i'm just naturally skinny, if anything i'm always saying i need to get fatter. it definately annoys me though when girs keep saying they are fat, need to lose weight etc. not all girls are the general stereotype
Although I agree completely the statements you make, im just speculating that it may be easy for you to say it because you are ridiculously attractive.
As long as you're healthy and happy, then eat away :)
I'm a girl your age, I find myself worrying about my weight sometimes. But mostly I find it rather ridiculous how extreme some women are. It's just so drilled into our culture, though :/

Agreed! I suspect magazines are continuing to cash in on women's insecurities as they have to bare all on their holidays - a fast summer diet! ... that doesn't work...
I work in a chocolate shop part time and goodness knows I'd never ever ever want to diet!
