  • I can tolerate gay men, and even get along with gay men. I have a few gay male friends. But, I can't stand lezbos, especially butch dykes. It's sick the way they want to look, dress, walk, talk, and act like a man, but yet, most of them HATE men. So why try to emulate the sex you hate so much? Jealousy? Penis envy? An I'm an Atheist, so I'm not saying this out of any religious beliefs. I'm stating a fact, that most people would like to say, but just don't or can't, and it's the truth.

  • Why does big think involve so little thought?

  • I seriously thought this was a guy at first. Carpet muncher.

  • nature vs nurture have both influences on us so we can't rule out that gender has no influence

  • DAMN I BET YOU ARE GAY.

  • 1:05 "I said yes I am a lesbian and it shocked her"

    Yea, sure...

  • This social constructivist bullshit must stop. It's nothing but hogwash and tomfoolery. We are born the way we are. Quit trying to blame society!

  • @wereaux Exactly we are born the way we are. Though we are born into a society of seemingly only hyper-masculine men and hyper-feminine women. Not everyone fits that description. Society should nurture the peoples needs not only a select amount

  • ...... I CHOOSE therefore I AM ...........

  • I think she is trying to prove her point by dressing like a man.

  • Normal is a construct that has been forced onto us through the ways of our society.

  • umm i dont want to sound like an asshole but i thought she was a man at first

  • Wow, sickening but above all EVIL drivel. People pay huge sums to have this perversity stuffed into their minds. One needs an awful lot of "education" to replace eternal truth with such a toxic brew such destructive freudian & cultural marxism. US universities r now firmly rooted in the destructive and evil agenda of the Frankfurt School, Foucault , horkeimer Adorno et al who r out to destroy culture to prepare the way for marxism. this toxic yeast has now metastasized in our Western societies

  • So being a man im not playing a role, but rather constantly reinforcing my masculinity through behavior. To say Im playing a role would suggest my gender is something that inately start with. Society has made gender black and white, but that's not the case at all so we must work to destroy these convoluted social norms.

.......i think thats what he/she meant

  • Holy shit! She looks like a man!

  • Anyone who thumbed this up is probably an effeminate man or a masculine woman.

If ur a woman embrace ur femininity

If ur a man embrace ur masculinity

    End of discussion

  • @Jamespot24 you certainly MASCULINE LOL

  • @fish250jiang How would you know that you never met me?

  • @Jamespot24 shut up an embrace it,be normal like the rest of us or else i'll hurt you

  • @Jamespot24 If you are a human explore your full range of emotional possibilities.

  • @fuckingsickadventure I heard you talking about "hyper-masculine men and hyper-feminine women" I'm definitely not saying that every man should be a bodybuilder/pro athlete and every woman should be a porn star.

People should however be happy about being a woman or man and with their own bodies (maybe go to the gym if ur not)

Still Feminists have got society to put too much pressure on girls that they need to have a successful career and that stay at home moms do nothing...

  • I was a harassed "sissy boy" growing up, but throwing aside the oh-so-damaging conventions of gender seemed a little knee-jerk to me. And sure enough ...

So, not that I'm hating or anything ... but I'm gonna have to ask for some hard science on this one.

  • @talkindurinthemovie @dpw1989 Your genitalia may or may not match your sex, which is determined by your genes.

  • no, your gender is what you identify with and sex is you sexual organs. so I agree with her

  • @talkindurinthemovie

    Okay, I see your distinction.

  • woman = mind blown!

  • stupid queer

  • I would love to hear more about what she thinks of transgender and transexual people.

  • if gender is a performance, where does the performance come from? doesnt it come from inside us? If we had the freedom to act any way we pleased, what would please us?

  • @dorothyisabutterfly If gender is a performance, then it isn't an object, the origin of which can be neatly defined. A performance doesn't "come from" anywhere, though it may reference forms originating elsewhere, it is a thing in itself.

  • HUAHUAHUAHUAHUAHUAHU

  • Sex / gender is a complicated topic, with many different metrics. There's genotype (genes), phenotype (body shape), mental gender (whether you consider yourself "male" or "female"), gender expression (how you act), gender roles (e.g. cooking/cleaning/looking after the children) and no doubt more besides! People may occupy several positions in each metric through their lives or even simultaneously. However I would think sexuality is different, although it may influence/be influenced by "gender".

  • No, your genitalia creates you gender. Really now.

  • @nightflight83 Sex != Gender

  • @nightflight83 Your genitalia (junk) determines your sex , not gender. Gender is cultural, sex is biological.

  • @dpw1989

But can a man who doesn't bleed really say he's a woman?

  • @nightflight83 sex is biological. gender is socially constructed. it's really not that difficult to understand.

  • @honeyortarrr Feminists absconded with the term "gender" back in the 70's, but most people today just use it to refer to biological sex. A person could say that money and citizenship are things that are supposedly "socially constructed". But to claim that "gender" is "socially constructed" is asking for trouble, especially from biologists.

  • what a disappointment, by the thumbnail i thought this was gonna be michael douglas

  • @toasty303 Your dissappionted this was Judith Butler? When I saw this photo I was giddy when I begain realizing Big think had an interview they did with her.

  • @toasty303 I thought it was Dawkins or something. lol

  • @toasty303 oh the irony...

  • World Health Organisation:

What do we mean by "sex" and "gender"?

Sometimes it is hard to understand exactly what is meant by the term "gender", and how it differs from the closely related term "sex".

"Sex" refers to the biological and physiological characteristics that define men and women.

"Gender" refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviours, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and women.

  • @mrbtardation Sure, my feelings are also based on what I see and read. But I put feelings high on my checklist to shape my thoughts and world view. After all, isn't happiness a feeling? Isn't love a feeling? Aren't those 2 very important things in life?

Moreover, I am a singer, and in music and singing espescially, feelings are paramount. But even there, having sung a lot of contemorporary opera, I agree that a sharp mind and facts are very important too!

  • @mrbtardation There is no need to share my views or this womans. Contrasting opinons are there to show yourself where your stand is.

Biology is just one part of the equation. I believe the sum total of all opinions is what make up a culture. What most people believe is what we call the norm and that is what defines 'normal'. views and opinions shift thanks to people who think bigger, beyond the normal. That in itself is enough reason for me to be interested in unusual views.

  • what a load of gay leftist horsecrap

  • @mrbtardation Furthermore I feel very deeply androgynous. My vantage point towards gender is neutral and very personal. I realise that most people find it easier to follow mainstream conduct according to their biological gender than I do. I am fine with being in a male body, but male conduct is something I don't quite comprehend. Therefore I feel major resonance with what the person in this video is stating, regardeless of qualifications. As for genes: 90% is still a mystery, no?

  • @mrbtardation I'm not quite sure why you choose to discard the American Psychological Association so easily, or what you mean by 'real scientific evidence'. I sense that you put biology above sociology, is that right? Let me be clear about where I stand: Humans are spirit born into one specific form of biology with a specific form of consciousness. I find it inconceivable that we are a 'mechanical' assemblage of organs that orchestrate some preset behavioral reactions. 2 B contind…

  • @bontekoe "Humans are spirit born into one specific form of biology with a specific form of consciousness. I find it inconceivable that we are a 'mechanical' assemblage of organs that orchestrate some preset behavioral reactions."

Sorry, but that's reality. We're nothing but a blob of atoms. There is no "spirit"

  • @wereaux Thank you for being so clear about where you stand. I respectfully disagree. No problem for me, I believe there is room enough in this world for many different points of view & I am not interested in proving anything or deciding who is 'right' or 'wrong'. I'm just fascinated with this topic and the different opinions and ideas about it.

  • How about we go back to the scientifically accepted idea that gender is biological and that men and women are born to act and think differently? Why is the truth so politically incorrect?

Why should we take the word of a professor of literature who has no expertise in this area?

  • @wereaux "gender is biological" yes

"men and women are born to act and think differently" NO. Science has proven this to be nonsense. Men & women are raised to act differently. Being and acting are 2 quite different things. Moreover, times are changing, again. Accepted male/female behavior changes all the time depending on where and when you are.

  • @bontekoe ""men and women are born to act and think differently" NO. Science has proven this to be nonsense."

Please show me the scientific studies that prove it to be nonsense.

  • @bontekoe Gender isn't Biological...you guys are mad. Your SEX is biological re:estrogen and testosterone etc, but Gender is a social construct eg Boys play football and girls wear make-up

  • @kayealfresco Thank you. I believe we agree, but I don't mind being called a mad guy. I even consider it a kind of compliment. :-)

  • @bontekoe I just meant you're mad for arguing before googling a definition of a word :D

  • @wereaux I'm glad to see that you are passionate about this topic, as I am.

Here's the data from the American Psychological Association. Youtube doesn't like links, so you have to piece it together yourself:

    apa dot org / research / action / difference-dot-aspx

  • @bontekoe I don't take the APA very seriously. They tend to move in whatever direction the political wind blows the hardest.

    Here's a better source:

"Sex Differences in Cognitive Ability" by Diane Halpern

  • @bontekoe If a claim or statement from anyone, has not been peer reviewed, then it should be disregarded, only people like you that find solace in writings with no true scientific background read and beleive them. Find more reliable sources to support your claims.

  • how ironic is is that she looks like a he... on a gender video

  • This is possible - at least with animals - there are some fish, wich can change gender whenever its needed - they live in a groups, the strongest one of them will change its gender, and if that one dies - another one will change its gender to replace previous leader.

  • i like the asian guy the best, also penn

  • she looks like charlie sheen

  • So much biology fail in the comments. Do some research kids: not everyone is born a man or a woman. Even hermaphrodite doesn't cover everything else that happens in between the two extremes of male and female. Unless you've actually studied the biology of sex characteristics don't bother posting since you have no clue what you're talking about. Jeez, the Dunning-Kruger effect is so annoying...

  • So my penis means nothing?

  • Definition of man: has penis. Definition of woman: has vagina. Case closed, lesbian philosopher's opinion rendered moot.

  • @superclaydude So if I cut off your dick, you'd be a chick?

  • @cbcbarzarz Not unless you had a sex change.

  • @superclaydude

Well yes, if you are talking strictly over the issue of physical sex. But this video discusses the gender spectrum, which is actually a bit different in terms that it doesn't deal with genitals, but rather applies to the span between masculinity and femininity. In layman's terms, this video simply discusses why some boys act girlie, and some girls act boyish, and why some people generally act neutral.

  • She learned how to emulat hand movements like that of a man. What an accomplishment congratulations. She's now officially a man. Sorry but this is complete ''Mentally Deranged" feminazi fantasy world in a semi dormant state.

therefore I agree to disagree.. ;D by the way she contro'dicks herself in the end about gender

  • Nobody is a gender from the start? Look between your legs woman. The only exception is hermaphrodites

  • @DeathG4n You're confusing 'gender' with 'sex'. There is a distinction between the two.

  • @green11420 Not according to Butler, she says sex can't be separated from gender and that both are constructed.

  • It's MICHAEL DOUGLAS!

  • what a pseudointelectual, biology is a social construct right?

  • @MGsven When calling someone a pseudo intellectual, you should know how to spell pseudo intellectual.

  • @Cryoquasm actually it doesnt negate my point at all, only teachers and spelling nazi's care about a misspelled word. normal people would debate the point being made

  • @MGsven What has biology got to do with it? I think you need a dictionary to help you. Sex is biological, Gender is a social construct. Eg, having a cunt doesn't mean you have to like shoe shopping.

  • @kayealfresco gender isnt a "social construct", of course being female means there are certain traits that come with that, hormones affect the brain as much as they affect the body. this largely shapes peoples phycology, this is why all over the world we find similar social roles based on sex, since it works well.

people who dont feel their of sex are an extreme minority and should not be considered a rule but an exeption to it

  • @MGsven You're delusional. 'absolute power corrupts absolutely'. You think womens hormones mean they want to be housewives and child brides?? Men have the physical power,so they took political power and they created history and in turn tell you how it will be. It has NOTHING to do with hormones. “women do two-thirds of the world’s work, receive 10% of the world’s income and own 1% of the means of production.”

It is only in the Western world and only recently we have seen any sort of freedom.

  • @kayealfresco what is wrong with being or wanting to be a housewife?

women have more DISPOSABLE income then men, plus the additional money spent by men on women in the form of dates and other gifts.

if we looks at the economy's building blocks, transportation and electricity production. those are almost exclusively male jobs, if those stop, the world would stop.

also as long as there is affirmative action no achievements count by having the state force female promotions onto companies

  • @MGsven "women have more DISPOSABLE income...."

Women waste A LOT of money buying gifts for their boyfriends/husbands that they don't even want and then get very upset when they're not used. My x-gf bought me a $400 (5 years ago) Burberry wallet, that I not only didn't like or want it, was impractical and snapped my credit cards and I couldn't fit anything in it. My $50 wallet was heaps better. When she asked why I didn't use it and I told her she got really upsett. (con)

  • @MGsven (con) I was annoyed my credit cards kept snapping and that she was trying to force me to use something that wasn't practical, I didn't like and my friends made fun of. She then wanted me to buy her a $400-500 Gucci glases, so that it would be "fair" and "even".

If I had bought her a $50 pair of glasses that hurt her face and her friends made fun of.... and then got upsett and tried to force her to wear them even though she didn't like them and her friends made fun of her. Then (con)

  • @MGsven (con) that would have been 'fair" and "even". Most women have trouble understanding what true equality and fairness is. It's not trying to make both sexes exactly the same... We just don't want the same things.

It's like not wanteing men to have Gentlemen clubs to drink and socialise with other guys because they "sometimes" discuss busniess but have no problem with having all female gyms. Their reasoning is that men can have all male gyms as well, but guys don't want that

  • @kayealfresco as for political power, this was mostly to dominate other men more then to control women, even poligamy is more in the advantage of women than the other way around, you see, if 1 rich man has 3 wifes, it means 3 women are sheltered warm and safe vs 1 man, while 2 men dont have a wife and are perhaps not sheltered through overtaxing by the powerfull political males

  • @MGsven Wow thats ridiculous. Not sure how to respond to that stroke of profound thinking. It is not more advantageous to the woman if she doesn't want to feel like cattle. I'm not against poligamy but on many occasions women are not given a choice. In the same way some Islamic branches state a woman can have her husband and his brothers if there's a shortage of women. Muslim politician Shukria Barakzai doesn't seem to agree with you.

  • @MGsven If men don't want to control women why in for instance the middle east are they throwing grenades at their own women while they're at school? Because if they learn to read, they might gain knowledge and that frightens the crap out of them

  • @kayealfresco really ur gonna use the middle east as example, its very convenient to use our female oriented media to show people here what upsets them, women suffering oh no we have to save them

what they dont say is that 12 yo boys get circumsized without anastetics, gays get beheaded on discovery(lesbians arent looked for as intensively)

men also hold each other to all these standards, u see its very easy to say most women are suffering and surely they are, however, so are many of the men

  • @MGsven "why all over the world we find similar social roles", you'll also find that the prevailing faiths are capitalistic. You don't think that has anything to do with controlling gender distinction? You don't think the Enlightenment ever happened? Hormones do not 'largely' define psychology. Who has told you this?? Nurture and nature are fundamental and nature can be to do with genetics not hormones. You over simplify and that is damaging. Lets hope you have no sisters or daughters.

  • @kayealfresco actually we dont, there is no predominant economic structure found throughout the world, and what would the economic system have to do with gender roles? what does the enlightenment have to do with this? of course genetics are the basis, but do u know HOW genetics affect your body? indeed they create hormones to do that.

i havea sister and a daughter, so whats ur point?

  • @MGsven As an Economics student you can trust me when I say ...it.is.male.dominated. Gender roles are politically shaped, the economy re:Men wanting to keep women at home and be breadwinners means politics between the sexes are affected. This is all just common sense. Why waste energy spouting crap on the internet when you could actually be reading and learning properly. The enlightenment was a significant period of liberation from religion and therefore patriarchy enforced by faiths.

  • @kayealfresco really u dont suppose men working out the home and women within it couldve been a role system that existed before those religions? also the new system doesnt seem economicly viable, look at the crisis around u, thats after 50 years of modern economics and the western world is pretty much bankrupt. i am indeed learning, but i read books on both sides of politics, perhaps you should pick up a book of thomass sowell or milton friedman.

  • @kayealfresco of course a statement: "Men wanting to keep women at home and be breadwinners" is emotionally loaded, is this really true, since most men werent better of, id suggest the book: "the myth of male power" by warren farell itll open ur eyes to a lot of things. men have died at a younger age then women, and the gap has increased a lot over the last 100 years, from 1 year to between 5 and 8 years, so women definetly get the better end of that deal.

  • @MGsven Read 'Time,Love, Memory', it's non-fiction £1 on Amazon and it will teach you in a pretty simple way about genetics. Regardless you might be born without limbs that doesn't mean you'll never walk. Just because I don't have a dick doesn't mean I can't be masculine. It is acquired, whether or not it is inherent is besides the point really. As for your daughter you might want to actually love her enough to let her know she can be what she want's.

  • @kayealfresco the most important thing i will teach her is responcibility, something most western women are oblivious to, thanks to the rise of feminism the state has grown bigger then ever before and is very focussed on giving wealth to women from men. she can be what she wants theres nothing to stop her, but that doesnt mean shes entitled to anything, if she wants something she will have to earn it. its only fair, of course i will provide the best situation for her to get tebasics with my help

  • @kayealfresco i agree nurture has a huge influence, which is why a large percentage of men and boys in prison come from single parent families, since they need a male rolemodel, and with todays western governments using force to extract money from men in no fault divorce cases, paternity fraud cases where the state takes money from men to women in formes of alimoney and child support.

everywhere on the internet u see men who want to see their kids. the state helps women to prohibit men from

  • @MGsven doing so

and yet politics and tv tries to push an image that its somehow mens fault

  • go bump beavers the gay topics are here are so boring.

  • this is really interesting!

  • Basically, there's nothing absolutely morally wrong with your behavior as long as it isn't coercion, theft, murder or rape.

  • I think this video is casting too wide a definition for "gender". Gender should be determined by genetics and sex organs. If we are seperating gender physcology and gender roles from biology, then we should come up with new words to describe this. When you refer to someone as a man you are not only making a physcological statement, you are also making a biological one. Maybe we should make a new gender for psychologically male and physically female.

  • @elatus some people distinguish this by separating 'sex' from 'gender', using sex to refer to their biological sex while gender is more of a mental state. some will identify as transgender or FTM/MTF (female to male/male to female) when they are psychologically opposite from their birth sex.

  • @elatus Gender IS the psychological aspect, the genetic and physical aspect defined by sex organs is refered to as 'sex'. There are already terms for differentiations of this, for instance if your gender is male and your sex is female you are transgender.

  • I thought that on the thumbnail that this chick was a guy.

  • Ok so what about the differences in brainfunction, and hormones that affect our mental landscape. These are measurable and do vary between sexes. I find it pretty silly to think that just because you "act" as a man you'd have changed the physical reality of your body, or that because you don't feel like a woman, there can be no such distinction made in general as a man or woman.

It's quite like saying there is no black or white because there exists grey, and different pigments in between.

  • @Loomr That's true however most cultural influences lead people to believe that there is only black or white and that any grey should be made into either black or white.

  • @Drewxor BOOM! freedom to be Grey... GREY PRIDE xx

  • Thats a freezeframe from "Examined Life". GO SEE THAT ASAP

  • even before listening to everything she says here, I knew she was right, know why? I thought this was a kind old man in the thumbnail before clicking on this.

  • @donluchitti I thought I was the only one.

  • This totally disregards transgendered individuals. People who have a biological gender, have had that gender reinforced by society, and yet still know there is something wrong. She talks as though she has never heard of John Money. If you think gender isn't set from birth, there are couple of boys you need to know about.

  • To separate the physical and behavioral at the fundamental level of sex/gender is... unnatural. I find the concept repulsive and difficult to conceive of.

I accept others' choices in doing so, but still...

  • @GeekProdigyGuy wow that is sad, I'm sorry you can't "conceive" of something you find "repulsive". But guess what, the physical and psychological states of people don't always go hand in hand. And genetics show that a male or female bodied person can be born with the mentality of the other gender. And its 100% "natural".

  • @Eraserheaddf When I say "difficult to conceive of", I mean that I find it difficult to understand it from that person's point of view, how it could be that they are how they are. I don't condemn them, and I realize that it is beyond their control, but I can't personally understand how they feel or think.

A person born with 6 fingers does not prove that having 6 fingers is natural for a human being. The definition of "natural" is determined by statistics and instinct, not logic.

  • @GeekProdigyGuy if I person is born with six fingers, that would be a natural occurrence dumb ass. Natural- Adj. (Existing in or caused by nature; not made or caused by humankind)

  • @GeekProdigyGuy what is "natural" for one individual, may not be "natural" for another.

  • @Eraserheaddf I find your usage of vulgarity a bit amusing...

That would be a natural occurrence, that's true. The condition of having 6 fingers, however, is not necessarily natural. The dictionary definition might be "caused by nature," but the connotation is "common in nature."

I didn't say natural for an individual, I said natural, which is broadly "natural for humans." It is not my definition, but the definition by what is most common in the gene pool.

  • @GeekProdigyGuy you find it "amusing" do you? let me try again. fuck you. and btw there is NO such thing as "natural for humans". "most common" yes but not "natural". So yes you are a dumb ass. And I find you "repulsive".

  • @Eraserheaddf Yeah, I do. When somebody who is undoubtedly older than I am resorts to inappropriate language, I find myself easily amused by the irony...

I didn't say I found people "repulsive," I said I found the concept repulsive; I can't imagine what it'd be like to have such an identity crisis and have to resort to surgery or some extreme method to change my physicality to match my mentality. You're overreacting to a comment that's not even meant to be an insult, unlike others' (see below)

  • @Eraserheaddf By the way, "natural" is taken to mean "expected [common] in nature"; if I pick a random human, it's rather unlikely he/she will have 6 fingers. If you're going to argue that counter-productive accidental mutations are "natural," you're barking up the wrong tree with all that anger and frustration. I never said that unnatural was a bad thing (being a genius or a pacifist is unnatural), only that it's difficult to understand and accept.

  • @GeekProdigyGuy "To separate the physical and behavioral at the fundamental level of sex/gender is... unnatural" ----This is your exact comment. ...When in fact it can be very "natural". So you are wrong.

  • @Eraserheaddf Hmmm... just read this one about "when in fact it can be very 'natural'" -- you mean a personal definition of what "feels" natural or comes from nature. By that definition, marijuana and THC is natural... I mean the general population/species definition of natural, regardless of whether I or you personally feel that it is right or wrong... If it were as natural as you say, it would occur more often and be accepted more easily. Btw, natural is neither good/bad, it just is/isn't.

  • @GeekProdigyGuy pot is natural, I agree. ....so explain to me how you find something natural "repulsive"?

  • @Eraserheaddf I don't find something natural to be repulsive, I find the fact that some people have such an issues with themselves, such a need to change at a fundamental level, repulsive, if that makes sense (not the person -.-).

Marijuana the plant is natural. The effects of the THC are not. The manipulation of the mind is a very forced change. The same can be said of random mutations which make people feel and just *be* unnatural. Again, unusual is not bad, just hard to accept & understand.

  • @GeekProdigyGuy you have a huge problem with words. What did I just say.... pot is natural, and I suggest you do more research on the matter (regarding it's effects on the mind).

  • @Eraserheaddf Yes, you said that. No, I don't agree. Very simple -- I use the word natural with the connotation "expected/common in nature." The effects (application) of THC in humans are definitely not natural in this sense (arguing this means that you'd expect to pick 10 humans at random and have half of them basically high). In this sense, being at odds with your physical gender is unnatural. It's what you were born with, and thus, generally, what you're expected to be.

  • @GeekProdigyGuy "expected/common in nature" is about statistics in nature. But is not (itself) the definition of "natural". Being at "odds" with your physical gender is not will never be "unnatural" as it is a "natural" occurrence.

  • @GeekProdigyGuy this does not mean however that it is "natural" for every person. Just like not everyone is born gay. But it is in fact natural for some people to be born so.

  • @Eraserheaddf Natural for a person -- what is natural for me might not be natural for you. But natural, for a species or life in general? Put another way: It is natural to have a physical gender - that is one concrete quality of natural life (or at least, some forms of it). Would it not be unnatural/artificial to change or conflict with what is natural?

I don't why this is being argued though. Unnatural only means difficult to accept and understand, I'm not using a negative connotation...

  • Idiotic

  • So tired of people who say gender is behavior. XY-XX-special seams easy to me...

  • "psychiatric normalization" PLEASE don't tell me that's a way to bring someone to SOCIETY's view on "normality" because that is SO fucked up. everyone has the right to be whatever they want, if they are different you don't have to put them in an institution to "normalize" them to what society thinks is good/normal, that is fucking messed up.

  • @mimikawaii7386 I'm amazed that you're surprised. Psychiatrists are specifically trained to give therapy to improve mental health. And obviously, mental health means society's picture of mental health. That's pretty much just common sense.

And would you say that bringing a depressed person to a more "normal" cheery outlook is wrong? What about a suicidal or psychopath?

  • @GeekProdigyGuy Obviously helping a depressed person is absolutely right, what I meant is that just because someone is different from others it doesn't mean he/she is supposed to seek help to have the same mentality as everyone else.. Everyone is different, not to the extreme of depression, which indeed is something that one would need help for.

  • @mimikawaii7386 But if society doesn't get to decide who needs help, who does? The person afflicted? What if he/she is incapable?

  • that dude is one hot chick

  • @me25422 Confusing...

  • @me25422 lmfao

  • This woman basically said that your gender is defined by the GENDER STEREOTYPE that you exude.

This was a very weak and almost delusional explanation of "gender". And hearing this come from a lesbian woman makes it even worse. This lady seems more confused than comfortable with her preference.

  • @EmpathyWorks Yeah she's probably really confused, I mean after writing so many books and having so much conviction in her ideals maybe she should phone a helpline.

  • Is the person in the video a dude?

  • @testiclecrusher2

    * The name - Not mentioned

    * The face - Old, not masculine, wears lipstick.

    * The voice - Soft, most men are incapable if speaking in that tone.

    * The figure - The clothing is neutral, but the scarf gives it away, as well as the earring.

Conclusion; it's a woman, who might be a lesbian (like in the scenario presented, where she said yes for shock value).

  • @vatiz93 It has a pretty masculine jaw line.

  • @testiclecrusher2 The voice is evident enough.

  • @vatiz93 Whatever it is it had a little bit too much testosterone while in the womb.

  • @testiclecrusher2 That tends to happen when you grow old, regardless, you should know it's a woman if you payed attention to the question "Are you a lesbian?". <- aimed at her.

  • Oi! If you act sensitive, you make sensitive chemicals. If you act angry, you make angry chemicals. You are whatever you "want" to be, with respect to our causes and conditions. Another "duh" moment, meditate and this stuff becomes apparent.

  • The general definition of what gender is has become a sort of identity to some. From the root view, gender is the difference between reproductive organs, period. However, society has created, as Butler mentioned, roles and personality assumptions that are associated with each gender. This basically ignores the biological aspect of the terms and turns them into identities, so to speak.

  • Gender is in part imposed by culture, but male and female brains are structured differently. Cultures may attempt to maximize some of these biological differences, but I don't think, in general, that they create them from whole cloth.

I do accept the truism of RuPaul's comment: "We are born naked. After that, it's all drag." But to lay every element of gender-associated behavior to simple cultural conformity is giving culture greater credit than it's due.

  • As someone who is gender queer, I can say that at times I'm male, other times I'm female, and most of the time I fit into the behavioral realm of human behavior.

I long for the day when everything I do is considered 'human behavior'.
