As for healthcare reform it's well known that many people who are eligible for medicaid simply don't apply for it. Then you take into the amount of people who are transitioning from college to the work force as well as the illegal citizens who have medicaid and shows the bureaucracy the government has created by getting involved in health care. I use to be able to break down all the stats but I can't remember them now. I'm sure you can find out more just by searching for it.

I think Maddow and Cenk use facts in addressing what they see as bad policies by republicans. On the other hand, Olbermann seems too bombastic and makes personal attacks similar to Hannity.

Run the math. If you look at the potential revenue from taxes (even at 100% for ALL Americans), you will find that we could not balance the budget at current spending levels. Bush was no fiscal conservative and neither is Obama. Spending (esp. entitlement spending) is the problem and until that is addressed, we can debate all day until we default.
@N5DVC Agree we need to cut spending but intelligently. The Ryan plan is ridiculous - he is making seniors pay $8K extra for healthcare to fund tax cuts to people who will not spend it. This transfer hurts GDP growth.
We need to:
1) cut defense dramatically and stop the wars
2) bring back Clinton tax rates (even Greenspan agrees)
3) invest in education and R&D so U.S. can compete in future
With you on 1, 3 (but private or state, not fed govt), 4, and 5 (w/mixed feelings)
Not so much on 2 - small business (the main target of 'tax the rich') need to be incentivized, not punished. Increasing the tax BASE will do far more to raise revenue than raising the tax rates. Even then, without changing the big three (SS, M'caid, M'care), it simply won't be enough to matter.

As for healthcare reform it's well known that many people who are eligible for medicaid simply don't apply for it. Then you take into the amount of people who are transitioning from college to the work force as well as the illegal citizens who have medicaid and shows the bureaucracy the government has created by getting involved in health care. I use to be able to break down all the stats but I can't remember them now. I'm sure you can find out more just by searching for it.

@N5DVC I don't mind when pundits criticize policies but Rush, Hannity etc. often resort to extreme characterizations like "Obama hates America" or "Obama is anti-capitalist". Anyone can label others but I don't see real solutions from the republicans (tax cuts have proven not to work under Bush).
I think Maddow and Cenk use facts in addressing what they see as bad policies by republicans. On the other hand, Olbermann seems too bombastic and makes personal attacks similar to Hannity.

Run the math. If you look at the potential revenue from taxes (even at 100% for ALL Americans), you will find that we could not balance the budget at current spending levels. Bush was no fiscal conservative and neither is Obama. Spending (esp. entitlement spending) is the problem and until that is addressed, we can debate all day until we default.

@N5DVC Agree we need to cut spending but intelligently. The Ryan plan is ridiculous - he is making seniors pay $8K extra for healthcare to fund tax cuts to people who will not spend it. This transfer hurts GDP growth.
We need to:
1) cut defense dramatically and stop the wars
2) bring back Clinton tax rates (even Greenspan agrees)
3) invest in education and R&D so U.S. can compete in future
4) increase age to get soc security
5) tax co that ship jobs overseas
That will help reduce deficit.

The vilified 'millionaires' aren't paying income tax; the bulk of their 'income' is capital gains.

Three family members told me that they expand/hire based on demand. Obama's stimulus increases demand. If they can hire a person for $50K/year and they will bring in $70K ($20K pretax profit), they will hire regardless of whether the tax is 35% or 38%
Bush tried tax cuts and created no new private jobs.
Even Greenspan says it is necessary!

These include Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Alan Greenspan, Bush treasury secretary Hank Paulson, Reagan budget director Stockman and almost every top non-partisan economist.
Maybe you should read an economics textbook. GDP growth was great in the 1950s-1960s when tax rates were much higher on top earners. But don't let facts get in the way of your propaganda.
